Faefrost Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 That was actually a joke, based off their abundance in video games. Oh I know. But the scarier thing is a major toy maker actually has followed through and made it. I would have loved to have seen the marketing meeting that sold that idea. I can help but imagine the pitch started something like " well me and Bob got good and baked last night and we said Duuuude cyber dinosaur ninjas for preschoolers! That's where it's at!" But getting back to Ninjago. I really am fascinated by the thought that it's replacement will be something that we will be surprised they didn't do years ago? That leads to lots of speculation that they may be leveraging one of their evergreen themes into the kid/gotta catch me all market? I think something like the fantasy knights, dragons, quests and swords thing would work well in a similar space to Ninjago. I would even say it would perfectly synergize with the market given the two Hobbit movies releasing. But the problem there is the LotR license they already have. Monster Fighters seems like it would have been an obvious choice if they had fleshed it out a little more to include battle elements and collectibility? So what else would be something obvious and familiar that they haven't done this way before? Quote
MakutaNocturn Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 LEGO Mythology? Nah. We've got Monster Fighters. It would be to simmilar. I always wanted to see a lego city theme concerned on the USA in 1960-80. With gangsters and all these stuff. But it wouldn't be a replacement. Maybe some mechs? Like Exo Force. I didn't like that theme because of an anime look like. I hate Japanese animations. Totally! We can't have adventerous theme because we had Dino. I hope we will see some Agents like theme. 4 agents fighting with a bad Scientist. Ehhh... Trully, I would give a hug to all Lego Stuff if they will create some kind of Lego History theme. I love history. Quote

Kalhiki Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 The thought of Lloyd NRG is a pretty cool idea. It'd be even cooler if Garmadon got an NRG form and the two duked it out in an epic, glowy, elemental battle. Sets I'd like for the end... I don't know. Depends on where we're going with the theme (pirates, etc). But another dragon wouldn't hurt. As for a replacement, I'm still hoping and praying for a Steampunk theme. Just think of the possibilities. An Exo-Force theme would be kinda cool too. But not with the Anime minifigs. Kalhiki Quote

Aanchir Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Lego Remakes? With remakes of Ice planet and Rock Raiders and Insectoids? I figure whatever TLG considers Ninjago's "replacement" will be something they plan to give the same type of marketing push, with lots of mass media presence. And with that said I'm pretty much certain that it would be something that they have full creative freedom with. This would mean another theme like Ninjago which they plan from the ground up, although it's possible for it to be loosely inspired by a previously-existing theme. One thing's for sure, it would be far from a strict or faithful remake of a fan-favorite theme. I wonder how long it will take desperate BIONICLE fans to start guessing that Ninjago's replacement will be BIONICLE coming back. Of course, we know that won't happen because the "will BIONICLE come back" question was fielded at the same Bricks Cascade Q&A session with Kevin Hinkle where Ninjago's end was first announced, and it was answered with the same definitive answer as has been given at all previous conventions (there are no plans to bring it back). I'm also fairly confident that Ninjago's replacement will be the new LEGO TV show mentioned in press releases from Cartoon Network, which is being discussed in the Culture and Multimedia subforum. But IMO there's no need to funnel all discussion there since we don't know for sure, and since discussion of Ninjago's replacement will involve set discussion as well as TV show discussion. Quote
Flipz Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Isn't it obvious what Ninjago's replacement will be? They're bringing back Clutch Powers! ...actually, now that I think of it, that WOULD be kind of awesome... Quote
Omega X Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I've just gotten the NRG Kai and may post pictures of him online. Omega X Quote

There's no sense in discontinuing a best seller. Also I ordered my son the Samurai Mech yesterday from Bricklink. May do a review of it but same problem as ever; We can't get the camera's running nicely But I'll see what I can do. Edited June 7, 2012 by Lance Quote

DraikNova Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 It's nice, but still not as nice as Jay NRG. Wondering when we'll hear about next year. And to continue the replacement theme topic, I guess one option would be space castle/knights/dragons? Or... Quote

I don't know if this means its "replacement" will be postponed or if it will be released next year anyway despite having to exist concurrently with Ninjago. Ninjago is confirmed for next year, but it will be replaced by something else in 2014. Of course, all this assumes that the world won't end anyway on December 21st of this year. Quote
Lyichir Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Ninjago is confirmed for next year, but it will be replaced by something else in 2014. Of course, all this assumes that the world won't end anyway on December 21st of this year. We don't even know for sure that it will be replaced in 2014. Kevin Hinkle's statement suggested they would want to have an end planned so it doesn't fall into what he called the "BIONICLE trap" of continuing as it hemorrhages sales. But since they went against their initial plans to end it this year, it's possible that they could extend it yet another year when the time comes to make that decision, especially if next year's sets outsell even this year's. That's why I was wondering whether or not the "replacement" may be launched alongside Ninjago instead of replacing it as originally planned. That largely depends on how similar it is to Ninjago: if it's a brand new story theme but in a completely different "genre" (such as a Greek mythology-based theme), it could potentially launch alongside Ninjago. But if it's something too similar (for instance, a more historically-accurate Ninja theme), it definitely wouldn't happen until Ninjago ended. Quote

But if NRG Jay looks even better in real-life, then I look forward to seeing him for myself! I like NRG Kai's design, just not his head. I don't have Jay yet, but from what I've seen, he does seem cooler - at any rate, Cole isn't very cool. We don't even know for sure that it will be replaced in 2014. Kevin Hinkle's statement suggested they would want to have an end planned so it doesn't fall into what he called the "BIONICLE trap" of continuing as it hemorrhages sales. But if it's something too similar (for instance, a more historically-accurate Ninja theme), it definitely wouldn't happen until Ninjago ended. It's unlikely that the replacement would be anything to similar to Ninjago - Lego doesn't plan similar themes anywhere close to each other, except for the knight based ones (it took forever to have a new underwhater theme after aqua raiders, for example) Nah. We've got Monster Fighters. It would be to simmilar. I always wanted to see a lego city theme concerned on the USA in 1960-80. With gangsters and all these stuff. But it wouldn't be a replacement. Not sure about lord garmadon, but that would be awesome. Actually, not that I think of it, it's possible. They'll have to come out with an at least slightly different form for the next season, after all. Quote
just2good Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 (edited) The Ninjago Hidden Sword (30086) polybag is available on Toys'R'Us.com! I don't see a reason to buy it though, as this is probably the weakest of the new polybags (Zane ZX is the easiest to get) and Toys'R'Us is struck by mega inflation. I do like the swords in the sets, though. Edited June 8, 2012 by just2good Quote
Kai NRG Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Dangit! Ninjago was pretty cool. Tons of neat new figure parts, especially with the snakes. I just hope they don't stop suddenly with no conclusion. They've done that with Bionicle and Exo-Force. Yeah, I hope there's a nice conclusion - I never do like it when they just leave you hanging. That's exactly how long I'd thought Ninjago would last- three years, just like Exo-Force. Year one was the skeletons, year two was the snakes, and I'm 90% sure year three will be pirates. Three years does seem resonable. And I won't be surprised if the new replacement theme is in fact a lot cooler than Ninjago - that's allways happening And I'm 100% sure next year will be pirates - which is great! The truly scary thing is Playschool already beat them to it, and literally have a line of Ninja's and Cyborg Dynosaurs on store shelves now. Looking at it from Lego's point of view 3 years/cycles is probably perfect. They dragged Bionacle out too long and in the end it burned them. For the age groups these themes are targeting 3 years is a perfect fit. By the time the theme cycle ends your initial fans are aging out of it. It is better to catch the next group with something new than to pour more into the older theme. So 3 year bursts for the 6-12 crowd. And plan the end so you can build a story, merchandising and leave everyone satisfied. That right there corrects so many business mistakes they made with Bionacle. It made them so much money that they almost didn't notice when it wasn't until it was on the verge of being too late. Yeah, I agree. And it was really expected, so I'm not sorry, after all Quote
DraikNova Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Imagine a giant dragon attacking a ship. Would make some difference from a giant snake, wouldn't it? And I hope that we will get some more epic Samurai gear. By the way, any idea what Nya's new form will be like next year? Quote
