LEGO cancelling NinjaGo in 2013 wouldn't be too surprising imo. The theme is clearly doing well, but in the past, LEGO's ridden the success of some themes straight into the ground (Bionicle anyone?) and wound up losing money. As I recall, Alpha Team had a similar story: it sold well enough to stick around for three years and then disappeared without a trace.

Personally, I've never been a huge fan of NinjaGo, but I would be interested to see a new antagonist in 2013. The snake people were interesting at first, but now I feel every snake vehicle is just a different variation of the same design. Something new would be cool.

Besides, before you get too upset that 2013 could be NinjaGo's final year, remember that we have no idea what could be replacing it yet! Could be even better!

Yeah. It's not like lego is all of the sudden dropping a best seller - there's clearly going to be another year, and it's certainly possible that they keep it up after that. Plus, they have good reason to be confident in what's coming out next: whatever it is, it will probably be at least as detailed and awesome (if not more so) than ninjago.

I just remembered another possibility for the replacement theme. There's a Warner Brothers Lego live action/CGI film due for release in 2014. I know it's kinda unlikely because the movie's got live action as well as CGI but they might make sets based on it. My other guess is the new Arctic Theme that's supposed to be released.

The arctic theme sounds likely - but whatever the replacement is it will almost undoubtably have a TV special to go along with it. Plus probably some sort of game. It will probably be fairly similar to ninjago in that.

Yes it's a little suspiscious to see how eager TLG is to roll in the new theme.

My guess:

A: Clutch Powers:

Will have a toyline, and a TV series (It was pretty much confirmed a new TV series is on the way)

B: Secret Agents:

Same as above, maybe a game similar to Spinjitzu. Or maybe the Agents Turbocar Approach, with a ID card, only you put YOUR name, and each set has an individual star sticker, and you place it on the card

Back on to Ninjago: Do any other NRG figs have the metalic printing? NRG Jay certainly does and he looks great!

Expecting the Samurai Mech any day now (should be today actually). Also, has anyone noticed how expensive it is to build a sizeable Constrictai/Venomari army? Untill the Bytar Booster Pack comes out, don't try. I may just get jealous

Not quite sure what you mean by metallic printing. I think the other NRG's have it, but if I'm not thinking about the samething, I could be wrong. Of course the others are diff. colors as well

I have NRG Cole (look at my post a couple pages back for pics). I remember him glistening with a holy glow once unpackaged  but after the first day, it turned out he was made out of normal black ABS. However the pink and gold highlights do shimmer with light. He's epic, and my favorite Ninjago minifig to date!

So does the Jay NRG I got today, he's glowing with cobalt metallic! BEST FIGURE EVER.

Glad everyone has such a good opinion of him! I've bought him and am waiting for his arrival myself!

When was it confirmed that Clutch Powers will have a TV series? I thought that was dead and buried.

It's not at all confirmed, but that's just one of many guesses about the 2013 LEGO TV series (which is confirmed to be in the works) that will presumably be tied to whatever theme succeeds Ninjago. While I don't see any obvious reason why they'd revive the Clutch Powers franchise (which currently includes only the main film and a shorter "4-D movie" at LEGOLAND parks), I would certainly appreciate such a theme, and I wouldn't be surprised if TLG were to replace Ninjago with something which like Clutch Powers is a bit less genre-specific. Even with its anachronistic elements, Ninjago is very decidedly Asian martial arts fantasy.

I'm also hoping another show in a different genre might allow TLG to acquire a license for The Legend of Korra, though currently we don't have any reason to suspect they will since no Korra merchandise whatsoever has been spotted, and the marketability of a LEGO theme often has a correlation with how powerful the franchise is at moving merchandise in general. Either way, that doesn't give us any clues about what genre to expect for the theme tied to Ninjago's successor series.

In a lot of ways, the design principles behind Ninjago were unlike many previous themes. Exo-Force perhaps comes the closest in terms of set design, in that a lot of the sets (specifically, the vehicles and dragons) had fairly unique color schemes. There were unifying color schemes for location-based or structural sets (reddish brown, black, white, and bright red for 2011; sand yellow, black, and transparent fluorescent green for 2012), for the skeleton vehicles (black, white, and medium lilac), and for the snake vehicles (bright yellowish green, earth green, and medium lilac), but the dragons and the "heroic" vehicles had unique elementally-themed color schemes.

I'm not sure what this could mean for 2013 Ninjago sets, much less for whatever theme succeeds Ninjago. One thing's for sure, though-- Ninjago's color-coded vehicles and animal mounts contribute better to TV animation than vehicles from some past action themes like Alpha Team (any iteration), Atlantis, and World Racers, which in terms of set design had more in common with the faction-driven conflicts of many sci-fi and historic themes than with the character-driven adventures in the Ninjago theme.

Just my random musings. It's possible that whatever theme is used for Ninjago's successor will be radically different than Ninjago in these respects. After all, it's unclear whether there are any unstated motives by TLG for ending the Ninjago theme-- while the official statements we've heard so far suggest they just want to preempt any loss in sales, it's always possible that TLG also sees opportunity in the TV/multimedia platform Ninjago uses which the Ninjago theme itself can't as easily realize. In any event I hope Ninjago's successor proves as breathtaking as Kevin Hinkle has led us to believe. And whether it is or not, I plan to follow the Ninjago theme in 2013 just as I have done since before its 2013 conclusion was foretold.

I think it will be. And like you say, I don't think that the ending of ninjago will make me like it less!

Really? I got him at my local store. I actually got Zane ZX along with him. I can even by EDB (Epic Dragon Battle) here.

Are you talking to me when you say really? Well, I didn't get him over the internet either (although that is where I got Zane ZX :classic: ), but to make a long story short, I didn't buy him personally, so I'm waiting for the buyer to send it to me  and after that I'll wait for it to get here!

Nevermind. He's a VERY dark grey metallic color. I needed to take a better look at him.

So does the Jay NRG I got today, he's glowing with cobalt metallic! BEST FIGURE EVER.

I know which spinner is next on my list.

Yup, Jay NRG is just perfect, especially if you use the difficult to find a spinner for Jay ZX booster pack.

Yeah. It's the only blue spinner for Jay - although Sensei Wu and Zane came w/light blue spinners. Plus it has great cards, IMO.

It's hard to find? I've seen them all over the place. Of course I bought each wave of booster packs the first chance I got.

It seems as if the card art is getting better as the series progresses. I was very impressed with the cards in NRG Cole.

The idea was probably that it's hard to find a spinner for him. And yes, NRG Cole's cards are very nice as far as art (althought IMO they aren't so good for a battle)!

The booster pack is hard to find a usable spinner for: the trans-lime makes an awkward combination of colors[/color]

I don't use the trans-lime. It doesn't even look good w/the blue, at least to me.

I agree, I've substituted the trans-lime for trans-dark blue.

I though about that. But I'm not sure I have enough  (I know, that's pathectic!), so I just use them plain.

Oh, that's what you meant. I agree.

All this talking about spinners...

I like the flying pack Kai has in the rattlecopter box, it is made of:

2 blasters

2 buckets

2 snowwalkers

:)

Possibly the best throw-in-just-to-add-to-playability object to date. It pleased me (along with the castle helmet use on the Rattlecopter), making 9443 one of my favorite Ninjago 2012 sets.

When I get it, I'm gonna use Lasha's spinner. As for Zane ZX I'll use Kendo Zane. Does anybody know what spinner I could use Jay booster pack with?

I've already tried Lasha with Jay ZX, doesn't work. Try Zane ZX with Zane NRG. Zany ! Jay ZX works great with Jay NRG, especially if you replace the trans-lime with trans-dark blue.

Lloyd's Booster pack looks great with Kai ZX's spinner, too. And also with the normal Cole spinner from last year, except that you can't attach the horn pieces

I suppose you mean that when you get Lizaru's Booster Pack you will use Lasha's spinner? Because we were talking about Jay ZX's booster pack

Yeah, what I meant was I'm gonna use Jay NRG with the Jay booster pack. I don't know where Lasha came from.
