RPGer Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I'm back! After a long hiatus, I return to haunt you all ruin the Hall! Here are some notes I've observed. -Capt. John Paul: Signor Bacari was based off of the Genovasians in the Ranger's Apprentice series, was he not? -Flare: You might need to throw in some "darker" role-playing for Benji. More later, I'll be back! Quote
Rumble Strike Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Random question time. Do you more avid Heroica players now associate certain Lego heads/torsos etc with Heroica characters? I never truly realised just how commonplace the head I used for Tarn is, and now I think, "oh, there's Tarn in a suit!" for 4207 Garage or "There's Tarn with a powerboat!" Quote
posades Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I'm pretty sure this was answered previously in the thread (I don't remember the answer ), but does a Hunter's favored type carry over from quest to quest? Quote

CMP Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) I am wondering if Raider has not become boring, and also if it's worth sticking to it from a strict game play perspective? Mechanics and gameplayer-wise only? No, to be honest, Assassins is pretty much superior now. But, no offense, it was the consumables strategy that really screwed up the balance. Double damage and the huge number of enemies makes a massive difference. Maybe something like 'The raider mugs all enemies in a flurry of attacks, causing damage equal to their weapon power added to their level. The raider receives gold equal to their level times the number of enemies in battle.'? So, using the situation in the Great Guffington, you still deal a ton of damage, which is the point of Mead, and you'd be gaining 247 gold, which, given that very few quests have had 13 enemies in a single battle, is pretty fair. swils Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 but my point remains, where Raider was at first the prime Gold getter, you see that their ability to get gold is not that much better than let's say Assassin anymore Oh, my friend, you couldn't be more wrong. Quote
CMP Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) Oh, my friend, you couldn't be more wrong. The Steal roll is the only thing that makes Raider garner any more than Assassin. Point is, if you're going to steal the same amount of gold, would you rather have a 1/6 to assassinate all enemies, or just deal normal Hits to them? I agree, it's rather underpowered now, but if it was restored to how it was before it'd just get manipulated by drunk people again. Edited September 12, 2012 by CallMePie Quote

No, believe me, with the proper setup, a raider is the gold stealing king. I don't want to spoil my fun so you'll have to wait until Thormanil is back in town, but I plan to be very rich. Edit: For everyday fights, yes an Assassin is better. For getting gold though, I stand by the Raider. Edited September 12, 2012 by swils Quote

I never truly realised just how commonplace the head I used for Tarn is, and now I think, "oh, there's Tarn in a suit!" for 4207 Garage or "There's Tarn with a powerboat!" There are some faces that I associate with Heroica players: Nyx's, Boomingham's, Atramor's, Guts', Cinna's, Cronk's, En Sabah's, Eric's, L'Oréal's, Tesni's, Thormanil's, and Tomas' come to mind. On the other hand, Ellaria's face always reminds of me Pandora's old sig fig, while Sarge Jon always looks like Zorbas. And, ironically, whenever I see Docken's face by itself, I always end up picturing it with a brown tricorne and it reminds me of Shadows. Quote

I mentioned before how I now see that annoyingly common City head as Guts, and the same for Tarn's as well. No, believe me, with the proper setup, a raider is the gold stealing king. I don't see how you could influence how much gold you get unless you forcefeed your enemies Mead. Quote
swils Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I don't see how you could influence how much gold you get unless you forcefeed your enemies Mead. It's not about influencing how much gold you get per mugging. Quote
Sandy Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 I've been thinking for a bit about this, and I feel the Raider is severely underpowered since the nerf. The class has not changed except for the fact that it cannot gain an insane amount of gold anymore. The grass always seems to be greener on the other side of the fence, even with these advanced classes. If you don't like your current class anymore, you've got four more options (five, if you count reverting back to a Rogue) to choose from. Simple as that. I certainly will not touch Raider anymore. He's the perfect amalgamation of a Barbarian and a Rogue now. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Nyx and Ellaria have exactly the same face. Hinck used the face from Pandora's new sig-fig for the Nyx in the Heroica subforum banner. The Nyx head reminds me of Pandora, and the Pandora face reminds me of Nyx. Quote

But that's besides the point, I was expecting the comment of class envy, and of course it's a part of my argument, and yes, it's a complete combination of rogue and barbarian, but that was never my argument to begin with. And while you can it has not changed, gaining insane amounts of gold was kind of the raider's point, as I tried to illustrate in my earlier post. I'm not trying to get you to undo the nerf, Raiders were (clearly ) overpowered. I was simply raising the discussion if my views were correct, hoping to be proved wrong. Swils, I will follow how you plan on doing that, but unless it's because of some obscure item I don't know about, I can't think of anything, really. Quote

I was simply raising the discussion if my views were correct, hoping to be proved wrong. Well, you did say the class is underpowered in your opinion now, so doesn't that mean you think it should be changed again? The truth is that the class is powerful enough, but it lacks the special something that certain other classes have. It is still the class with the most gold-earning possibilities. And your character has nearly 3000 gold to spend now, so I think you should have no reason for envy. Quote

TheBoyWonder Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I think swils might be talking about the sticky gloves. Quote

Perhaps underpowered was the wrong word, I wrote the first bit first, THEN ran the calculations, and the result was actually less of a gap than I thought. I still think the class has become bland, so I would like you to change something. And yes, it's the class with the most gold earning possibilities, because of roll 4 (never said otherwise). I think I'll make Guts into another class. I'll think about it, I can't change until the end of Quest 44 anyway, so plenty of time. I think swils might be talking about the sticky gloves. But that would be influencing the gold per mugging, which swils said was not the case. Quote
swils Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 But that would be influencing the gold per mugging, which swils said was not the case. Okay, well tbose were part of the plan, but not the crux of it. Certainly not necessary to the plan, but helpful. Quote
