What happened with Fort Bonaparte was that the Heroes had gotten the rebel sailors inside the fort to stop fighting and surrender, however a Bonaparte fleet was on the way to recapture the fort and our attempt's to make them stand down didn't work. As most of the people currently active and making decisions didn't like the idea of the Bonapartes regaining the fort due to their abuses of power the heroes elected to evacuate the fort and then blow it sky high. Thanks for the summary! Throlar has come a long way from raging beardless Dwarf to a somewhat sane voice of reason . Of course, there's no one there pushing his buttons . 21 hours ago, Flipz said: Eh, their core concept -- corrupt militaristic navy with a stranglehold over competition and innovation with a bunch of elitist classism for extra flavor -- didn't exactly leave room for a lot of favorable portrayals. It seemed like Sandy was going to transition their arc to a "rooting out corruption" arc once... I want to say Reno? ... got over his dismay with his brother's death, but then instead they reversed course and doubled down with the cartoonishly villainous Blackgull and his wife, which basically ended any hope of the faction changing to become sympathetic. The Bonapartes have always been one of the few Houses I personally have read as unambiguously evil, alongside the Guild of Invision once certain details emerged about their business practices, but unlike the Guild the Bonapartes didn't exactly have a cast of friendly and sympathetic NPCs attached to them, so that also doesn't help matters for them. I never really saw the Bonapartes as more evil than the other Houses or even the most evil. Like WBD said in his reply. All Houses are kind of grey overall with some good and some bad accents. I always RP'ed as if I did find them to be despicable, but that's mostly Eric's POV and experience. OOC, I didn't really find 100% Sauron levels of evil. Not more than any of the other big players. 21 hours ago, Waterbrick Down said: I'd argue that most of the houses had villainous aspects to them, Ziegfried's deals with demons, The Guild's monopolistic and morally gray experimenting tendencies, Hinckwell traditionalism and ignorance, Shadeaux under the table business dealing and war profiteering, Ji Pei foreign interests combined with reckless technology, and the Bonaparte's militaristic complex. The difference lay in some QM's running quests that humanized them and gave them admirable qualities. I'm sure a quest could have been run about the Bonapartes part in quelling northern invasions and or dealings with Leviathan that would have cast their penchant for disciplined combat and strategy in a good light. Beyond that I'm sure we read into the houses what we wished, partially due to each of our own character's backgrounds along with our own personal bents. Quelling nothern invasions does not make you the good guy! Nord lives matter! Quote
Zepher Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 1 hour ago, Lind Whisperer said: Back-up DMs would need to be in place, in case any of the DMs had an unexplained absence, and then never came back from it. The overarching story would also have to be written down somewhere, where the Back-up DMs - or the main, overseeing DM - could access it if such a disappearance were to happen. That’s a rather rigid approach to story. If a DM disappeared someone else could pick up the story and take it in whatever direction made sense to them. That’s how the best TV shows work when they change show runners. As for the Bonapartes, I think WBD is exactly correct. I actually liked Blackgull too. Authority isn’t inherently bad (that coming from a liberal/socialist) (and it’s important to recall that Heroica takes place in a different era than our own). It’s funny the house that seems least evil to you is the one you claimed as your own, Flipz. Def supports WBD’s suggestion that we read into the houses what we wanted. Quote
CMP Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 They would've played a big part in the Vartland Saga, from what I recall. Quote

I'm a much different (and hopefully better) person now then I was when I started paying this game of ours. Still, I'll miss you and Eric when this is all over. Quote

I think that would work well. You could only wear an allegiance to a particular faction one at a time, but could do quests for other factions without losing rep with your favorite faction. Why does their even need to be a "us verses them" crap? When other games do similar crap, I wonder why!? It seemed to be forced and dumb. But, if it just happened subtilty I might be fine with it. Personally, I am tired of seeing the "us verses them" crap in the government. And I hope everyone else is tired of same crap too. Quote

Nearly everyone's gone silent. One of the reasons why I'm doubting a "Heroica 2.0" would work - nearly everyone here seems burned out on RPing, and the rest of Eurobricks is slowly dying - not enough people to re-vitalize a second game. Well to be fair, a handful of old players has been the driving force in this final part of the quest and it seems most people think that nothing more needs to be said in this context. I for once find all this discussions of the future veterans etc. to be irrelevant for Ezeran. It's a good point to put an end to it. I wouldn't say there isn't enough players to start a Heroica 2.0, the challenge is probably to find some QM's who wants to continue. Quote

Karie's said her peace and has put forth the notion that she's ready to lock the hall doors for the day and come back tomorrow. She's got no real interest in arguing over politics or badgering about who should or shouldn't be a veteran: she wants to get home and make sure her family's safe but feels obliged to stay in the hall just to make sure nothing breaks out. I'll have more to say on Heroica v2.0 once everything has been said and done in 159, as well as my thoughts on the game in general. As for the "Eurobricks is dying", I doubt that's the issue. BotBS and Historica are seemingly still doing fine. People got burnt out: I got burnt out. 5 hours ago, Alfadas said: well, since my character is kinda deadish (for all intents and purposes he is dead, in another realm), I can't really role play anymore. I usually love political stuff, but since Kiray really has no skin in the game, there's not much for her to do. I think moving the game to another site would be disastrous. I've seen other websites that do something similar, and it's horrible for the userbase. 3 hours ago, Kintobor said: I'll have more to say on Heroica v2.0 once everything has been said and done in 159, as well as my thoughts on the game in general.
