In the last round of the #69 battle, Erik is absent!

You mean KO'd?

Oh yeah. Now I'm confused  I think I thought that because of Pretzel's battle order thing... Which included Erik

Why didn't you save it to sell to Guts?

Why is everyone always expected to give good stuff to Guts!

Not cool, man :sceptic:

He's only asking because Guts is offering like 250 gold for each one.

No one is giving me anything, don't know what you're talking about. But it's true that I would pay a bit more for that item, and for an item that is just a weapon upgrade, there's no reason NOT to sell it to Guts and make a profit.

Right, Sandy used it for a 110 Gold upgrade when it could've been sold to Guts for around 250 instead, and the crossbow upgraded twice instead of once with 20 Gold left.

Thats not my point. Yes obviously there is a profit fir both sides by selling to Guts. But thats not my point. My point is that everyone shouldn't automatically just offer their grating stones to Guts. Selling a grating stone to Guts is feeding the machine - and there is no way to slow it down :oh:

Everyones gonna hate me for saying this, but... Items shouldn't always be sold to the highest bidder (aka Guts). People should be able to use or exchange items how THEY WANT TO without multiple people trying to convince them to sell it to one already too powerful player.

I get the impression that Sandy tries to ignore the player-fueled market when he can, likely for reasons related to maintaining neutrality and the like.

I think the general point is that she shouldn't have sold it to Guts because sarge would have paid more

Your weapons aren't quite at the point where it makes sense to start using Grating Stones. Wait until they're WP:20 at least.

I know my Grating Stone will stay with me until either I activate my Plaything, and/or until I can get enough money for multiple weapon upgrades for it--and barring extreme story need, that puppy's staying just like it is for a while.

Good thing :sadnew:

While in this case I think it's mostly about helping people get the best deal for their items, in a larger sense I agree. Sometimes there's too much outside argument about trades--it's why I now tend to resort to what I jokingly call "back-room deals", so that I and the other party(/parties) are on a level playing field, without outside input making matters difficult. Yes, advice is one thing, but looking back, there are several situations in which I've felt that bargaining in the public topics has lead to unnecessary inflation in prices due to people here and in the Hall saying, "oh, you should charge more because it's super valuable to this person" and other things of that nature. I don't think that's really fair. In trades, there are only two perceptions of value that matter: the perception the buyer has of the value of the goods, and the perception of the seller. Making those two numbers match up should be up to the buyer and seller, and it's nobody else's business how that process comes about.

For the record, it's not just a Heroica issue--it's an issue in player-regulated economies across almost all games--see, for example, Minecraft multiplayer servers.

Maybe we should make it a rule that rogue-based classes have to due their business deals in the open while other can do it behind closed doors...for the sake of balance or whatever.

I agree in some ways. For the most part, I think it only makes sense to sell to the highest bidder to get the most worth out of your item. However, I think people for the most part should let what happens in the hall happen and not try to put pressure on people to lean one way or the other. No player "needs" to have a unique item. Even if the item seems perfectly suited to their character or whatever, people shouldn't feel pressured to sell it to them if they don't want to.

I'm sure I've been guilty of said pressure. :sceptic:

Of course you can decide for yourself what you do with your own items. But that doesn't mean that's the best thing to do for yourself as well, or a smart thing. That's fact. I think how powerful my character is is besides the point, I played for that to happen. And there's still a bunch of players more powerful in my eyes. I guess this is what Brickdoctor feels like, people conspiring against you. :cry_sad: Basically what people were saying was the smartest course of action, doesn't mean you need to follow it. :shrug_oh_well:

Precisely.

And while I kinda dislike people making deals for items as soon as it's dropped, I don't see an issue with people pointing out the value of certain items or suggestions of what to do with such an item. That just stops people from doing something silly (like trade away cheaply) with a powerful item.
