herrJJ Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Thanks Brickdoctor: that explained anything But I just thought of time travelling as a game mechanic. It would be complicated but could add a cool element to quests - or possibly not Quote
Zepher Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well, its been done once before, but this time its through... science! And it can't be replicated easily, for reasons that will be explained later. But I'm happy everyone is enjoying the twist. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We did try to do a Back to the Future-themed pseudo-quest while the board was down and we were playing on Writeboard, but we ended up creating new problems after going back in time instead of fixing the old ones. Also, I'm almost tempted to have Docken de-equip the Beholder's Eye to see what would happen when a hero loses his mind but doesn't have a purely in-universe mind in the first place. Quote
Scorpiox Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I just had to think of Doctor Who (BBC series) about time travelling. But how does time travel work? I mean not in general (that i do know ) but in Heroica? "People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually it forms a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey... stuff." Kintobor Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Reward: “I’ll buy you a round at the Merry Mermaid if you help me out.” That alone is enough to make me want to go on the quest! Quote
Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Blind, deaf and mute... Probably a challenge for roleplaying... I'd take a knight That's diplomatic! Quote
xxlrocka Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 "I'll buy you a round" "Buy you a round" "A round" "Buy" "I'll" Thank god Drake is in the hall. Quote
Flare Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I really want for Benji to go on Quest 75.... Yeah... Quote
Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Oh good, I was worried for a bit. Mind you these conversations one sided witch hunts between Pretzel and Dreyrugr are really wearing me out here so I'm going to have to find a way to side step them soon. Nothing against Pretzel but its tiring. I can only dread what would happen if I was in the same timezone as you and we had the option to squeeze about twice as much arguments that they have now into a single day. Meh! Same here. Looking at Pretzel back in the day when he first joined Heroica, he considered Leo a heathen for worshiping Ennoc, so he's become a lot more mild actually. I've tried to keep his character fairly consistent, but it's rather difficult. Honestly, when I found that I was questing with De'kra in my last quest, I was worried how that would go, because I just can't see Pretzel not getting into arguments and actively trying to kill such creatures, but with Dreyrugr it's even worse, especially since Dreyrugr is probably, in Pretzel's mind, the worst of the worst heroes in Heroica. I don't know why he hasn't bopped Dreyrugr over the bean with his steak yet, but perhaps he's a bit afraid of him. I don't know. Anyway, I generally try to avoid conflicts, so I do feel a bit like a fish out of water when writing for Pretzel in this way which is why I dreaded questing with heroes like you or De'kra, but I think I actually did relatively well in arguing for him thus far. I don't see any easy way for him to back down. Maybe his voice will die. Honestly, Dreyrugr seems more the type that would give up in arguing with Pretzel, but I'm sure I'll think of something...hopefully soon. Quote
Zepher Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We need some different flavors. Don't tone him down. Everyone argues for such 'noble reasons', but in reality, some people are just petty, some like fighting, and some just have a very set way they can't leave. Not every story has to conclude with the person learning everything bad about them and fixing them. I like Pretzel as is. Quote
Endgame Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 ...And that is the Stealer's crack squad of soliders, 70ers! I tried to make them compliment eachother nicely. Quote
Kintobor Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I like how the ringleader is the most frightening, yet at the same time is the lowest level! Well played! Quote
Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I like Pretzel as he is too, but it's rather tiresome writing for him and I'm afraid that if I grow too tired of writing for him that I'll begin to slip up in writing his character, but let's see. Quote

Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Results of Round Eight of the :Sarge vs Vastin: We Have Reserves Shield ((((17x3)+15)x2)x2=264 damage. 396 gold. Vastin is very much dead) Send my condolences to Sarge, but he should only get 9 gold from that strike not 396. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I can tell this is going to be great. I kinda hope we get to go back in time another time. It's going to be funny as Guts is now slightly drunk to start with. As well as he knows Shawe wants to make that deal. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Did I forget to mention that Sarge should totally stay a rogue. He would be the biggest money-making thief ever. Quote
CMP Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I kinda hope we get to go back in time another time. Maybe you already have...but not yet. Quote
Kintobor Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm curious as to Pretzel would react to Karie. "What sort of devil is this?" "Excuse me?" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Maybe you already have...but not yet. Look. Time Travel in fiction is amazing. As long as there is no talk about paradoxes. Fuck paradoxes. Quote
Scorpiox Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Look. Time Travel in fiction is amazing. As long as there is no talk about paradoxes. megabluck paradoxes. Sums up everything beautifully about the Doctor Who Pandorica arc... Bloody paradoxes messing with my head. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Look. Time Travel in fiction is amazing. As long as there is no talk about paradoxes. Fuck paradoxes. So if we want to avoid the Grandfather Paradox making time travel unnecessary, does that mean that after this quest, Guts, Hybros, Nyx, and Docken are in a universe where every event that in any way affects a hero is exactly the same, but is actually a different universe, to account for the fact that what the other players will know of what we do and what we know of what the other players do is the same in both universes because we won't play out what we might have done in the original universe and the other players won't play out what they might do in our universe? Palathadric Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm curious as to Pretzel would react to Karie. So long as she doesn't appear with pale green face it should be fine. Of course if she starts flirting with members of the party...well that's a different story. Quote
CMP Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Look. Time Travel in fiction is amazing. As long as there is no talk about paradoxes. megabluck paradoxes. Then you'd best let Guffington die. Actually, the way the Beholder's Eye works, you're probably using the form of time travel where you can't create paradoxes...in any case, I don't think Sandy would let the fate of the space-time continuum rest in the hands of drunk Rogues, so you're probably good to do whatever.
