The Legonater Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I have to say, I find the little secret societies relatively interesting... sometimes. That being said, if Heroica ends with King Guts, I will not be pleased. That would be the ultimate character stealing the spotlight moment. That would be interesting. The Houses eventually falling apart into ruin, the Heroica groups rising to take control... only ending up battling like the Houses did. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 It wouldn't last long. How many Assassins do we have, again? Didn't Legonater express interest in siding with Team Guts a day or so ago? Between him and Hybros, that's two of the better Assassins on Guts' side. And Team Guts does have the Cobweb Cowl, even if it's not Guts himself who owns it. Quote

Scubacarrot Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) Point is, I doubt everyone will be so accepting of his rule. King Guts will reduce taxes on wide brimmed hats and chickenfeed. That would be the ultimate character stealing the spotlight moment. I'm kind of the same way, just make sure not to create seperate groups for the sake of creating seperate groups. S.O.W. is awesome, I'll leave it at that. I wouldn't see Guts gathering allies as a seperate faction within Heroica. Or at least, that's not how Guts sees it. Also, if that happens as the end, it would be pretty terrible. But at the same time, I hope the Wolfgang storyline isn't the end of Heroica, so there you go. Much could and can and should and will happen. It's all good, however it plays out, I think. Edited June 22, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote
Zepher Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 My dream for the end of Heroica is this: Heroica storyline ends with the end of the Wolfgang plot. Then, Sandy hands over the reigns to someone else, we skip forward a few hundred years, and start a new story in the same world, but that people could join without having read the first game. I don't know who would have the time to do what Sandy does (certainly not me ) but it would still be cool, and we'd still be able to give this story an ending. Also, for the record, I didn't think YOU wanted to really be crowned King. I know that it's a joke/character choice, and that you're pretty opposed to stealing spotlight. I just am afraid that sometimes others forget. Quote

What reason could Atramor have for not wanting another alcoholic rogue as king? Guts is just Lawful enough to not make a complete wreck of things but just Chaotic enough to let him slide if things go messy on a Quest for good. Quote

A huge portion of the world remains completely unexplored - I think its great that we're moving slow, but I want to explore all of Uland in this era before we hop to the next. Quote

Even after the main plot's over, there's still things that need to be done, villages that need to be saved, character arcs need to be resolved, and in Gibbin's case, rats to be slain, but I would love to see a spinoff set in the modern era! Don't know why I want it set in the modern era, I just think it'd be cool! Quote
Zepher Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I'm not saying stopping the game tomorrow. Sandy predicted at first that it would be a FIVE YEAR story... at least. We've got time to explore. I'm certainly not done with my stories yet either. Quote

I've actually thought about a jump in time before, and I think even like a 2-3 year jump in time with the same characters would potentially be really interesting. I believe Sandy has said he wants to continue this for at least a few years or something, I don't think the Wolfgang storyline has enough meat to it for that, without really few main story quests or really dragged out stuff, but I could be seeing it all wrong. Perhaps that's just because we got the Big Bad in the picture now, finally. Keep in mind this is all hypothetical, and this should not at all be interpreted of me being bored of the Heroica setting, if Sandy's story ends, I kind of would like a different setting, altogether I think. I think an RPG with similar concepts (e.g. the format of normal dice battle results) in different settings could be really cool, like a Space setting. A few hundred years in Heroica could be cool, it could become more steampunky, but that's more limiting than a straight up fantasy or space rpg, I feel like. Also, it definitely started out as a joke, I think it is a fun character direction, and I think Guts being crowned King would be pretty awesome (it's not going to happen if Sandy doesn't want it, so it's not going to happen, basically), but the minute that would happen, he turns into an NPC. CMP Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I was always thought a sci-fi spiritual successor would be cool if Heroica ever did come to an end. It's about the only other time period would you could have as much flexibility as medieval fantasy. The Star Wars kind of sci-fi where actual science doesn't get in the way of chopping people up with laser swords, of course. Quote

Perhaps that's just because we got the Big Bad in the picture now, finally. That may not even be the final Big Bad. Sandy's said before that Baba was originally intended to just be a one-time NPC, and was brought back because of Quest 14's unfinished storyline involving her. Although I do think that she is the Big Bad, defeating her is not necessarily the end of the storyline. Zepher Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Stories after you beat the big bad suck. And I also wouldn't mind a Sci-Fi. Would require lots of replanning though. Quote

Thank you for travelling with us. *Crackle* Please remember to take your belongings with you when leaving the shuttle." You hear one final crackle, then the speakers give nothing but the low hum they gave before. As you step out, you get your bearings. Rusty Asteroid, appropiate. Round, brown and old, that's what the place was. But at least there was supposed to be work here. Not something any place in the galaxy could say these days. You open the doors, and immediately see a large bar, with a fat creature trying and failing to clean a glass. In a low voice, he calls out to you: "Hah, new one, eh? What are you, can't see through that helmet. Anyway, welcome, to the Rusty Asteroid, home of bounty hunters, gunslingers, and other intergalactic badasses. Want work, check the Bounty Board, want a drink, speak with me. You know the drill." Edited June 22, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote

A morally ambiguous mercenary type group offers a lot more possibilities. If anyone wants to be a bad guy in Heroica, they have to force schizophrenia. Quote
The Legonater Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Frankly, I'd disagree that Baba is the Big Bad. Sure, she's the key villain right now, but I think the largest threat to Heroica will always be, not any particular individual, but chaos and anarchy in general. It's been discussed before, but a lot of the themes in Heroica eventually come down to chaos vs order, and I think it will continue that way for a long time. Quote

Stories with several big bads have been proven to work well - Heroica being a prime example, really. Exactly. There's no single big bad, but rather groups of them with a vaguely over-arcing goal (chaos, warfare, revolution, etc) that threatens Heroica at its core, its essence. Maybe I'm looking too far into this, but at this point that just the way it seems. Edited June 22, 2013 by The Legonater Quote
