Jedi master Brick Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 That to. Seconded. Honestly, I had the most fun when we roleplayed our characters talking. Whenever someone decides to introduce some sort of fight, things just get messy. Yeah the fight yesterday took over 2 pages Quote
Sandy Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 I really like that there's activity in the Heroica Hall, but I have to agree with some of the others that too much creativity within the topic kind of ruins the real purposes of that topic, which are introduction, getting to know other characters and signing into quests. While I understand you are frustrated in waiting for the quests to start, there's countless other topics to write in here in Eurobricks to pass the time. So please stop making Heroica Hall a quest on it's own. If you have ideas for future quests, please post them to the Quest Masters' Lounge topic. Thanks! Quote

Sandy Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 As a large Dungeons and Dragons fan, I took great interest in this RPG after the original Heroica didn't turn out to be what I had hoped. But I have a question: 1a: Is multiclassing permitted, such as; Cleric + Knight = Paladin Cleric + Mage = Invoker Cleric + Rouge = Avenger Barbarian + Knight = Warlord Rouge + Mage = Bard Knight + Ranger = Fighter and so on. 1b: If so, how would be go about blending the battle styles, weapon proficiencies, Ether, Base health and Adventure traits, because a Paladin is a Holy warrior with healing properties and is a large defensive role, it would have the weapon proficiencies, Adventure trait, and Battle style of the knight, but also shares the Clerics' use of Ether and Adventure trait, thus a mixture of the two classes would be in order, unless multiclasssing would give full support of both classes abilities. None the less this looks like a spectacular game I cannot wait to play, great job! *Edit: I must ask, what is the weapon displayed on the equipment page on the right side, in the middle. It is the mega phone with the rod placed in the end. Is that the Hand Cannon? As you already heard from the others, the Advanced Classes that unlock at Level 15 work pretty much exactly like the classes in your suggestion. I can reveal that you got the Paladin right, but the other combinations are something different in this game. And yes, that's the hand cannon. Who knows, maybe the future of this game will introduce muskets and other early guns as well. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 (edited) And yes, that's the hand cannon. Who knows, maybe the future of this game will introduce muskets and other early guns as well. Hurray for more destruction! Though actually, with the introduction of firearms powerful enough to be used effectively against plate armor, wouldn't that give Rangers an unfair advantage over other classes? Or would these comprise a third set of Classes? (e.g., Ranger upgrades to Musketeer, Knight upgrades to Dragoon) Personally, I think fantasy games mix best with medieval classes, and the ones we have now are the best ones. EDIT: Or would we get a seventh class, an infantry-type class, that wields a firearm like an arquebus that has a slightly higher chance of penetrating armor at a penalty? (like reload time, being able to fire once every two turns) Such a class could even be an advanced class, combining Ranger and Footsoldier classes, with the Footsoldier class being pikemen. Capt.JohnPaul Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 And yes, that's the hand cannon. Who knows, maybe the future of this game will introduce muskets and other early guns as well. If you do that, I bet everyone will be mad at you for letting Bacari get a gun. Recipe for destruction! Quote
Damien Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 And yes, that's the hand cannon. Who knows, maybe the future of this game will introduce muskets and other early guns as well. Not that I can dictate anything but -- I've never been a fan of more advanced firearms (muskets, etc) in my medieval-ish fantasy. It just doesn't feel right. But if you adapted these game rules into a new Pirate-themed RPG, I'd definitely have to join up for that too. Or even a sci-fi Star Wars meets Warhammer 40K type game. I'd play that too. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 The game looked fun, so I decided to join up. This is my first game here on Eurobricks and also my first message board RPG. So, I made Hoke Ablesword. Hoke Ablesword has been a page and squire and wishes to join the knights in his house. Before he can receive his knighthood, he must distinguish himself among his peers and outside the walls of his home. His father has sent him off to earn his name with a sword, shield, padded armor and a few gold coins. I developed my character with the idea that he was just starting out. Being a new adventurer he wouldn't have huge armor, fancy surcoats and beefy swords, but rather humble attire that befits his experience. I want the character to visibly change over quests. Switching out his beginning torso with more armored looking torsos as he gains levels. Eventually he will acquire armor and maybe a helmet. I'll either pick out level benchmarks and/or use treasures acquired in quests to update the hero's image. Thanks Sandy and team for putting this game on. Quote
SirSven7 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Hello all, just a question but does signing up for all the quest make it more likely for you to recieve a quest, or not as alot of people have signed up of all three now and Im not sure if I should too? cheers all Quote

I cannot pick somebody to quests that they did not sign into, so signing into all quests definitely improves your chances to getting on some quest eventually. But there are other criteria as well, so if you don't fill them, you won't get into a quest, no matter how many quests you sign into. Those criteria include activity within the game topics, good writing quality and an original character. Party balance is also important to me when I choose the players for each quests. I won't choose six knights into one quest, for example. Quote
Fred Fred Burger Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Hey sandy I just wanted to say that I will be gone for the rest of the day(8 to 10 hours) somewhere without computer access, so if I get selected for one of the quests and then need to confirm or something I will not be able to. Quote
SirSven7 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Thanks Sandy that makes alot of sense, I will stick with just the one application for now, as I feel it works for my character Quote
Forestboy Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 So I know that everyone is excited to see which quests they get, but I was looking around the Heroica website, and I don't think I've seen it before, but I found the map of Heroica which might help since some people were confused what everything looked like. You can view the locations by going to Lego.com. I know Sandy is working on a map of Eubric, but I thought I would share this, in case someone didn't know about it, and wanted to see it. See ya' around! ~FB~ Quote
Darkdragon Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I hope it's ok to post this here. I notice some players have no character image or have blurry image, I realize not everyone has camera capabilities to get a good photo. In the spirit if cooperation, I would like to offer my assistance in this matter. I have around 800 different Lego torsos, so there is a good likelihood I have the one your character is built with. If you send me the bricklink catalog number for each element you want on your character, and if I have each element, I will build the fig and send you a full body shot and a 100x100 avatar photo of your character. Please PM if you are interested or have any questions (don't want to muddle up this topic). Quote

That way everyone can see who needs what and can attempt to help. Quote
Sandy Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 The chosen players for the three quests have been posted to the Heroica Hall topic (to both the first post and my latest post). Congratulations to all of you who got in, and to those who didn't, I'm sure there's plenty of quests coming up for you, so keep signing in. The quests will launch tomorrow, if all goes well. Quote
JimBee Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Sandy, quick question on ranged weapons. Since throwing weapons are the only kind of ranged weapon that can be used by someone other than a Ranger (Rogue), are there any disadvantages to choosing a ranged weapon? It seems like there should be, otherwise every Rogue would choose throwing knives as a weapon. And now I kind of wished I had caught that before and chose throwing knives over a scythe. Quote
Lucario Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I got some ideas for weapon kinds: Boomerang: Could damage every enemy with slight damage Handclaws: Poisons enemies. Throwing spear:...you throw a spear agaist the enemy. No explenation needed, honestly. Also, you plan to intruduce a summon spell ? We could summon dragons or something Quote
CMP Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Thanks for picking me for a Quest, Sandy. I considered using throwing daggers, Jim, but I thought a lot of people were gonna be Rangers anyway, and they can only use ranged weapons. Maybe you could pick the Rogue-Ranger class when it comes. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Also, you plan to intruduce a summon spell ? I cast Summon Bigger Fish! Quote
Sisco Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 How do we use the vials of poison? Do we simply put (poisoned) beside the weapon, and subtract a vial of venom from the inventory? I figure that that's how it's done, but I wanted to make sure before I did it. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I would have guessed that venom is used as an item, so you spent a turn on poisoning your weapon. It says venom lasts for one battle, so I'd assume you play it before the battle starts. Quote

Maybe you could pick the Rogue-Ranger class when it comes. Yes, but there's really no disadvantage to having a ranged weapon over another weapon. In fact, ranged weapons can cause full damage from both the front and the back row, so by allowing Rogues to have ranged weapons, they gain that advantage over all of the other classes. The main draw to Rangers, IMO, is the fact that they can use ranged weapons, and that draw is taken away if Rogues can do it, too. Plus, the thing with throwing knives is that instead of being just a cosmetic difference like any other weapon, Rogues gain range, too. Sorry, I don't mean to criticize the game setup. I'm just saying, "Why pick any other weapon if you're a Rogue?", unless you're like me of course and didn't read that part carefully before making a character. I gather that I am allowed to change weapons, though? Quote

I picked Ranger under the assumption that Rogues' throwing weapons were only cosmetic and had to be used in the front row to cause full damage. Quote
