I'd agree as well and think that Kintober's special was great, but just that it should be used in moderation. All of the points you made are good, I just don't think setting an absolute like a Black Knight should never be able to steal a weapon or artifact is a good policy.

Of course someone abusing the system fully deserves to have no assistance from someone else, but you still didn't address in what way that aspect of their (Black Knight's) special is beneficial to them. Black knights, along with pretty much all of the rogue classes are built to be self beneficial. They aren't designed for team-work necessarily, they're designed for benefiting the individual player.

Also note that we get a fair deal of resentment because we do earn Gold. Even when we do our best to support our team at our own expense and share the rewards, we get lumped into the "selfish" stereotype along with...I actually can't think of any Rogue who plays that way out-of-character (yes, there are Rogues who play into the selfish stereotype in-character, but they keep that in check for the sake of out-of-character fairness). The most inconsiderate and self-centered players I've seen (and no I will not name names) have all been non-Rogue classes.

It can get rather hurtful, actually, to constantly get lumped in with the group. (Another reason I'm strongly considering switching classes.)

Truth is that rogue classes already are and are able to be FAR more powerful than anything else in this game. Money gets you upgrades, artefacts and therefore strength; a valuable commodity rarer than you'd think for support classes. Healers are barely even needed when you have potions. To think, Haldor gained about 150 pieces of gold this past quest, probably less. Whereas Benji I believe gained over a thousand. I still can't see, to my blindness, how a hero could possible 'need' to make that much cash in a quest, but that's what a lot of players say.

In honesty, most heroes will always be weaker than their rogue allies - but that's okay. If I wanted to play this game to be all-powerful I'd have gone rogue at the start. But I find cleric/barbarian hybrid classing to be far more enjoyable, and that's why I do it. Scorpiox' advice to all: This game can be fun in so many other ways that purely min/maxing, so discover and explore them! Don't feel that you must become a raider or assassin simply because they allow you to eclipse others in power, play what you like best!

It comes at a price, though--we tend to get overcharged for things (which is why we "need" a certain amount of cash--the average Quest costs me 750 gold or more just in upkeep, and that doesn't account for buying new gear to accentuate our stats), and as mentioned there are emotional tolls as well.

I'd really love a return to that style of gaming, actually. (Yes, I know I bear some fault for my analysis, but it wasn't my intention to influence people to min-maxing; analysis is just something I do, looking at patterns and trends and strategies--it's a part of who I am in general.) I picked Mage when I started because I wanted to have fun slinging spells around. I honestly can't remember the last time I roleplayed with simple elemental powers--I think it might have been in Dastan, probably the infamous torture scene.

It's effectively the same thing though isn't it?

Never underestimate the power of positive presentation. Five battles of treasure being looted from the room post-victory will go by a lot faster (perception-wise, anyway) and be remembered a lot more fondly than five battles of "enemy cannot be stolen from". There's a definite stamina for players as they play through a Quest--if Heroica becomes more of a chore than a hobby for someone, then they'll post less often, behave less actively in-Quest, and participate less in Heroica in general. It's especially acute for QMs, but it also happens to non-QMing players, though it's harder to spot there in most cases. It's sort of like hunger saturation in Minecraft; a hidden stat that nonetheless has a HUGE impact on how you're able to play.

I'll have more on the power of presentation later, once Q70 is over.

...Will this post relate to 70, by any chance?

Well it'll certainly be fun if the two get on a quest together in the near future.

Boomingham ensuring she gets screwed over every step of the way straight from the get go, little to no loot!

I don't think it's just a wedge, it would be milder if it was.

So you mean a chainsaw? :snicker:

*huh* I'm shocked! What the heck happened?! Karie... in blue?! And she pulls it off too! Wow. This just proves it, Karie can pull off almost anything. even Newt.

All will be revealed in due time, young insectoid!

If you want the just, Karie's working with the Stealer to get a shot at killing Ulric without having to be with the Watch, because of that incident that happened in the alley back in #66. You know which event.

And yes, Karie does pull blue off rather well (also because I only have the blue ninja, but whatever )

With your avatar, I'm mistaking you for myself, Kintobor.

I'll let you guys roleplay some more before I run a round.

Just doing my job.

You know, I've seen Flipz lurking about, but never posting. Now I know how he felt a little while ago.

Yeah, no, I figured all that out, I'm just shocked she pulls off blue so well. I always thought red was her colour. :poke:

But yes, jeez, you keep making great RP choices.

Well, I aim to please! I was never one for stats and battles. I enjoy them, but it's not how I play. Stats are, in order of how important they are to an RPG, low on the list. For me, portraying a character who can be intriguing and dynamic is what makes me tick, and my god do I have a blast with Karie! She's not your ordinary, stoic hero, and that's the kind of character I enjoy playing.

Characters like yours (but others too, it's just you're in the spotlight at the moment) make me wish Sylph wasn't what he is. Playing the stoic (extremely stoic in his case) can get boring... Particularly when their entire past/race/plans/character traits are intentionally obscured by cloth, metal, lies, and distance. The most active RP (apart from generally being a calm sort-of-jerky strategist) he's done in a while was defending that mother spider.

I can't wait for my next character, who I plan to play more RP focused in a different way. (although, while it may not seem it, Sylph is an entirely RP focused character, he's just playing the role of a boring yet unintentionally mysterious hero.)

If you're getting lumped in with gold-gaining classes, then I doubt switching classes would really matter with those gloves. :def_shrug:

750 gold for upkeep? :oh: What do you buy? *huh*

It's also not like Portia raises her prices when rogues come around, but maybe because I'm not a rogue-based class I don't understand. :sceptic:

I hope rogue classes across the board don't feel singled out by others to the point that they stop enjoying the game though. That would be a real shame.

Perhaps it's because, as they say, with power (or money in this case) comes isolation. :sceptic:

I only switch to assassin when I need gold  Honestly Benji would probably be best as a hunter. If I hadn't already made it to Level 30 I would switch to that. Gold isn't my main objective in the game - its to have fun. :sweet: But a thousand gold doesn't hurt

Oh snap. things are going down in 70. I'm kinda routing for the party to win and go all Ramsay Snow on Karie. The girl just doesn't learn. :sadnew:

Just flaying her skin or something more in his repertoare to go with flaying .

I legitmately have no clue what happens to Karie when the battle ends. Kintobor pretty much ran all possible options by me, and it is his discretion to choose what happens to Karie.

Also, what do you mean "never learns"? Heroica drools, Syndicate rules.

I disagree, Karie chose to against the party, if the party wins, I say it's the party's discretion. Obviously they can't kill Karie or throw her out of Heroica, or take any of her stuff, but everything else should pretty much be fair game. Don't make that sort of thing without consequence.

And by never learns I mean she keeps trying to mess people stronger than her.

Posted (edited)

The chosen option will be largely determined by the party's reaction, yes. And don't worry, none of them end too great for Karie. One is pretty good... for about 15 minutes.

The only thing I won't let them do is kill Karie or hack off any limbs. Other than that, they can do whatever they so wish to do with her. Try and get her back on the party's side, give her to the watch, etc. I expect this will be her Heroic Blue Screen of Death after the battle, but we'll see.

That kind of reminds me though. I remember Sandy saying there would be a split in Heroica at one point. If there was a split, right now. I imagine it would not just be, Wolfgang Supporters against House in Power supporters, the Wolfgang supporters would be severely outnumbered. What would you say would be a better way to split things, and who would be on each side?
