Flare Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Random question: Who would the oldest character in the Heroica Universe be? I know the largest thus far is the Mythrogg (a little bit over 3,000 years, The Regret a few months behind) but I get the feeling I'm missing someone. I bet Baba is older. Obviously shes not the only witch in existence ao I'm sure that there are more extremely old sorcerors hanging around. Also the elves of Spesalia probably are immortal, age wise (although I am not aware of how the elves have been designated to be since they have rarely appeared in any quests) Quote
Zepher Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 That we've met so far? The Old Gods have stated their immortal life-span wise (as I think Proggs are actually?) and Baba was around when the Moon Elf Kingdom fell, which also seems like a really long time ago. I also imagine the Council of the Watchful Eye is immortal in some way, shape or form. The Dragons too? I don't know how old some of the other dragons are - Vipera has said she's one of the youngest Dastan Dragons, and she's pretty old as far as humans go at least. Quote
Flare Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Who are these 'old gods' anyways? I'm not familiar with them Quote
Endgame Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Proggs can live infinitely (and grow infinitely) until they die. The Mythrogg was invincible - nobody would ever be able to kill him from the outside, but defects from his creation process essentially gave him ether cancer. To his credit, he fought it for quite some time. Good point on the Council of the Watchful Eye, though. Quote
Palathadric Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Monk Pretzel's age suddenly multiplies by ten and he becomes every hero in Heroica's great, great, ad infinitum, grandfather. He then remembers he's celibate. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) Elves are NOT immortal. We have established that. I think someone once said that (fullblood) elves would like like a 1000 years or something. Edited June 27, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote

We did? I don't really remember any discussion on that, for or against the concept of the immortal elf. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) The only thing I won't let them do is kill Karie or hack off any limbs. Other than that, they can do whatever they so wish to do with her. Try and get her back on the party's side, give her to the watch, etc. I expect this will be her Heroic Blue Screen of Death after the battle, but we'll see. You could grow them back with that scroll I gave you! You thought it was a gag-gift, now didn't you? At least the Syndicate is cool and their leader is a genuinely nice guy underneath all of the aloof-ness. Wonder what would happen if Karie sided with the Wolfgang with his party? And his willingness to brainwash people. You tend to forget that, don't you. (Oh, and this song works best for The Apprentice, but it still applies here, if not just nominally.) Yes, there are only 4 words. Daft Punk. Sandy killed my combo. I had hosted quests 36, 46, and 56. And I'm going to miss 76, too. Sowwy. I'd love to host you eventually. We'd have so much... FUN*. *Fricking undead newts And then let the Syndicate take their place! Likewise, when the Two trading houses burn in the chaos to come... Who's that stepping out of the dust and smoke? Who's trading company has an Orange Flower as its symbol? Not Really. I have my doubts Fleur'll be around still when the Hinckwells and Shadeaux actually bite-it. ~Insectoid Arisotcrat Edited June 27, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Scubacarrot Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I have no clue when it was. It must have been a really long time ago, probably in 2011. Elves haven't really seen much action lately at all. I do remember we established that Elves were not immortal, and I know that Nerwen was like in her matron stage or however Chromeknight called it, so, I also vagually remember the 1000 year thing. But in the case I am just making stuff up, which is a definite possibility, Immortal Elves are a stupid concept. Yeah, take that, Tolkien. Seriously though, if Elves were really immortal, most of them would probably hide to live forever, they definitely would never wage wars, and technological and magical advancements would have been much further along as well. I certainly remember the discussion, and I also think I can recall the outcome. We came to the conclusion that once an elf reaches the age of human adulthood their body clock slows down to something like one tenth of the usual rate. Therefore, for every ten years lived, they would only appear to have become one year older. Correct? I would have to disagree on that point. In Tolkein's universe, the elves are far more spiritually linked and ingrained in history than in most other fantasy works (Just think of Elrond and how he is able to 'sail to heaven' with Gandalf, Frodo and Galadriel at the end of ROTK). In Middle Earth, their immortality fits rather well in my view, but only for the way that they are presented in-context. With TES-esque elves, for example, having an unlimited lifespan would be ridiculous however. Quote
Flare Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'd seriously like to know from where Karie gained 300 health? And how many Level Up Mushrooms did she eat? Quote

Endgame Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) Technically she drank a mead in a sidequest, so she should be at Level 29. No Harvester involved in her entry into the Syndicate, that much I can say. Edited June 27, 2013 by Endgame Quote

Endgame Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) I realize now that putting "Lust" and "desires Masson's favor" in the same sentence is a very unfortunate way to word things in Karie's special. I considered naming one of my feature quests Paragons of Olegaia... Then I read the acronym. Edited June 27, 2013 by Endgame Quote

Let's not have a debate about Tolkien's work again, I remember the last time, it didn't go very well. Quote
CMP Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 "I see, hopefully we're on the same page then!" Haldor chuckled, but soon his face hardened. "What did you think of him? He's an old - was an old friend of mine. Up until recently, he was a nice bloke to be around, but not too long after we came back from Wren he changed completely. He give you any of that "smiling's for weaklings" megablocks? How about "no point being happy 'cause you're going to die anyway"? Can't stand an attitude like that. If he wants to go through his life like that, it's fair enough - he can die on his own in some gutter somewhere knowing there ain't nobody that cares for him. But I'm sure as hell not letting him try any of that on me. If comes anywhere close, it'll be hard to keep myself from socking the sorry bastard." Don't you mean Arthur? Or maybe Althior? I'm sure it's not Atramor you're thinking of. I thought elves were immortal in the way that they couldn't die of old age, but still easily could of disease or being stabbed or such. Quote

This kind of stuff only happens on Eurobricks - heated arguments over the relative merits of fantasy fiction. Don't you mean Arthur? Or maybe Althior? I'm sure it's not Atramor you're thinking of. I thought elves were immortal in the way that they couldn't die of old age, but still easily could of disease or being stabbed or such. Definitely Althior, although with a few tweaks that post could apply to all three. In Tolkein's works it's like that, but a while ago we had a debate and decided in-canon that elves only aged very slowly as opposed to not at all. Quote
Zepher Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 No more updates from me today, folks. Going to go see one of my favorite bands of all time in the city tonight! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTi6vcfmEg0 A little taste. I'll see you all on the flip side! Quote
