Endgame Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I actually have a quest in the works where a minstrel joins the group who owns a guitar and rocks out to all of their songs. And on that note, I sincerely hope someone will eventually drop as a minstrel song. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I've started to try to consider the advanced classes as far as drops go. I've dropped a nice necromancer specific item, and created something for Alchemists I hope to see later (it doesn't look like anyone will be killing Ladybug for it). I think once people start to show more interest and we see the classes in action we will know what buffs they could make use of. Yeah. Seriously. How will I get that book? Madame Ladybug is Sandy's NPC, are you allowed to kill her off? Maybe. But if I go in, try to kill her, I will win, because I have Neutralizer, the book will disappear on the jump. So... I am just going to ask, and I will also say what Guts currently is doing is boring... And I don't know what to do. Is there another way to get that book, (i.e trickery?) If you in real life had an option to be a minstrel, who plays songs and buffs the party, or a dragoon, and got a dragon that breathes an elemental attack, gets stronger as you level up, and can eventually carry the party, which would you pick? I'd choose to be (the male equivalent of) Daenerys Targaryen every time. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Sarge has no class, he's a black knight. Breathes there the hero w' soul so dead,Who never to himself hath said, This is my own, my natural class! Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd As away his footsteps he hath turn'd From changing classes again at last! Interestingly, that poem was presented as a composition of a Minstrel. As for Minstrel songs, I don't mind the old-fashioned stereotypical character -- this is a fantasy game with players who make references to tropes on purpose. (Although I enjoy classical music, so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask.) Quote
Scubacarrot Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 And Quest 72 actually is mostly roleplaying, the battles and especially the loot are definitely not the main focus points, so I definitely don't think we have lost the roleplaying in quests. Maybe we're less accepting, and in my opinion rightfully so, in making the quest about your own character, but roleplaying is still there! Quest 77 is really exciting for me, and I wish BD would have waited to host it so I could go, Quest 19's concepts were great. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I've always felt like we've lacked support classes whether of the leader or controller variety, we have a lot of defender/striker classes out there but support is basically limited to healers, alchemists, minstrels, and mages with scrolls. As Pie said, classes with extra options aside from attacking, give the game more strategy and tactical options, something I believe contributes to the depth and richness of the game. I've got a controller ether class in the works, but I think the lack of interest comes more from people having more fun delivering massive amounts of damage rather than boosting others attacks or hampering enemies. I've got one that's built around the idea of a leader acting as both support and offense, hopefully that'll appeal to some. Similar to a Knight, but sacrifices a shield to be able to buff allies. Flipz Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 While we're on the subject of Expert Classes: after stealing one of Endgame's Ether-based ideas and reworking it, I'm working on a counterpart class that's not Ether-based ("counterpart" because for lore purposes they will be gender-locked; thus, one class from the faction for males and one for females). Both classes are based on a risk-reward strategy, where an increase in strength (and it can be dramatic) carries strong risks to those who let things get out of hand. Of course, neither one is connected to the Priests of Mercutio...because every time I try to build something that would make sense for them, it comes out being either massively underpowered or massively overpowered (Bound has no effect on enemies, Petrified is OP, Slowed vs. one enemy is underwhelming, Slowed vs all enemies is suitably powerful but boring, anything involving Gold is just too nuts to mess with for fear of rage, etc. etc. etc.). I even considered just making a nutso OP class and making it an NPC class, but it never really came together, so I scrapped it. Quote

Kintobor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 What about a Magical Girl-esque expert class? Bonuses against demons and and unholy monsters, and party protecting abilities, similar to shield? In other words, a buffed up paladin who loses their group healing abilities in favor of self healing and buffed attacks in general, but in particular to unholy and undead creatures. As well as witches. And it needs Kyubey. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) To all interested in Shadeaux Reputation: While my current Quest does have a way to get some (it'll be obvious after the next battle), the Quest after my next (hopefully hosted in October or November) Will be a Shadeaux Quest, and deal somewhat with Karie's father, and his Company. As such, I've spoken to Kinto and he and I will be sort-of collaborating on it. It's almost as fleshed out in my head as the one I'm running now. Yay for Economics! It's funny how I didn't plan for all of my Quests to be Trade Intrigue Quests, but every one in the near future will at least touch on them in some way. I don't even like Economics IRL. I thought my Quests would have more to do with evil cults, Political Intrigue and other Dramatic nonsense. But then you 62ers let Fleur live. You just had to roll so poorly, didn't you. Well, I hope you're happy. Because of you, I have as many Trade Intrigue plans as there are phrases and expressions with the word Trade in them... And there are many of those. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited July 23, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote

I've got one idea called the Inquisitor that's pretty much built around obliterating enemies that use ether (and to a lesser degree, defense...it's less around protecting your party as much as it is levellng the playing ground between the party and enemies) and has an automatic multiplier against demonic and holy enemies that's similar to what you mean. It was directly inspired by Thothwick. Quote

Kintobor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) I want to see Thothwick as a Sailor Scout now. Fighting witches by moonlight Fighting more witches in daylight Steals all the loot in a tough fight He's the BA known as Thothwick! It doesn't count as a magical girl class unless that inquisitor is totally Kawaii. At least, I think that's what Kintobor is looking for. It doesn't need to be Kawaii. Look at Madoka Magica. That took the sub-genre of Magical Girls and turned it into a great Shakespearean tragedy. It's all up to interpretation. Edited July 23, 2013 by Kintobor Quote

As for finding what you're doing currently boring... I don't feel that I've really pidgin-holed you at all. You have pretty free reign. If you're bored go do something else. Maybe we're less accepting, and in my opinion rightfully so, in making the quest about your own character, but roleplaying is still there! This. It's what Pie said: look to be included, not to morph the story around you. I think that some people are confused about the fact that this is a community game. I think that most QMs do a very good job of telling stories WITH the characters. Some characters want to be the center of the action, but no one is. We're all telling a group story. If players play the game, QMs naturally allow for them to have an effect. Sometimes some players forget the other players don't have to bend to their will. I think some people think that cooperative roleplay is "I'll do A and then you HAVE to react with B because that will allow me to do C" when really that's just throwing the reacting character under the bus. It's a sort of selfish way to play, and I think sometimes people are so focused on A and C happening that they think the other characters not doing B is them "not permitting role playing". EDIT: As for Expert Classes - I'd like to see a few more that exist put into action before we create even more, but perhaps that's just me. Edited July 23, 2013 by Zepher Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) Of course I screw the song up... Edited the song. Thothwick's already in a relationship, and it may just be heteronormativity speaking, but I was under the impression that Thormanil didn't roll that way. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited July 23, 2013 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Kintobor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) Thothwick created SOW, the whole anti Witch thing, so the song is about him, not Thormanil. If you've seen Madoka Magica, the magicals girls fight off witches, which's where the connection is. Sorry for the confusion. Edited July 23, 2013 by Kintobor Quote
