Scorpiox Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) This. It's what Pie said: look to be included, not to morph the story around you. I think that some people are confused about the fact that this is a community game. I think that most QMs do a very good job of telling stories WITH the characters. Some characters want to be the center of the action, but no one is. We're all telling a group story. If players play the game, QMs naturally allow for them to have an effect. Sometimes some players forget the other players don't have to bend to their will. I think some people think that cooperative roleplay is "I'll do A and then you HAVE to react with B because that will allow me to do C" when really that's just throwing the reacting character under the bus. It's a sort of selfish way to play, and I think sometimes people are so focused on A and C happening that they think the other characters not doing B is them "not permitting role playing". This is exactly true. The community hasn't become more averted from roleplaying, we as players just are beginning to properly understand what is and is not fair game in quests. Edited July 23, 2013 by Scorpiox Quote
The Legonater Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I think are far more apt song for the Hard Rock Anthem would be We Will Rock You, but maybe that's just me. It's a similar effect to the Nazgul Theme, but I think somewhat lessened since even watching Menace, you get the suspicion or the sense that the words don't actually have anything to do with the action in-universe whereas the execution of Fellowship and the way Tolkien fleshes out and presents his languages means that the words feel authentic. (Although Naboo as a whole feels very Earth-like, so not totally Williams' fault.) Actually, according to Williams, the words were chosen mainly for their sounds than meaning. The original lyrics are translated from the poem "Battle of the Trees". As much as I love Duel of the Fates and Williams' work in general, I agree that Howard Shore does a brilliant job using real Sindarin and Kazdul lyrics for the music - though of course, Lucas never wrote entire languages for Star Wars. But this is me getting way too in depth now. Quote

Pandora Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I just proposed a Ziegfried quest, if anyone would like to go on that. I definitely would. Quote
Zepher Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) I'd love the rep and I'd love to go on another Endgame Quest and I always enjoy questing with Nyx... but I'm not sure that I'll get back in time. Forget Shadeux rep. More Hinckwell rep, please. That will be an option. Edited July 23, 2013 by Zepher Quote
Endgame Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) Zepher/Brickdoctor, how long do you think your respective quests will last? Also: it is going to be pretty short, only 3 required battles and one optional you may accidentally stumble upon. Edited July 23, 2013 by Endgame Quote
Captain Settle Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I'll go on any quest to get my Heroica career going! Is there a date that a next quest will appear? Quote
Pandora Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Also: it is going to be pretty short, only 3 required battles and one optional you may accidentally stumble upon. I can live happily with that if there's more Ziegfried Rep, plus your quests intrigue me. Quote
Zepher Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 @Scuba - As the quest is mostly time based, I sadly have to update everything at about the same time, so as to not throw anything out of whack. @Endgame - My original goal was a month and a half. We are unlikely to make that, but it shouldn't extend over two months, so I expect we'll be done somewhere relatively early in August. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) @Scuba - As the quest is mostly time based, I sadly have to update everything at about the same time, so as to not throw anything out of whack. I figured. If Guts takes a Smelling Salts, would he be faster at everything and therefore get more updates? Edited July 23, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Forget Shadeux rep. More Hinckwell rep, please. Sowwy. Neither of my next two Quests will offer it, and I don't have plans for another Hinckwell Quest in the very near future. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Kintobor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I'll go on any quest to get my Heroica career going! Is there a date that a next quest will appear? There is no specific set date for when quests show up, but it appears that a few should show up within the next few days. Mine should be ready in a few days actually, and I wouldn't mind bringing a new player along if the rest of the party is close enough to your level. Quote

Rumble Strike Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Flare, are you looking for quest ideas that you could run with? I have loads of ideas but I think my QMing days are behind me, so would be happy to help you brainstorm something. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I hope to come along! Will the quest have started before Monday, as that is the one day I'm without Internet access. Don't worry too much, if you miss a day. Generally players try to check in at least once a day, some more often. Heroica is supposed to be a casual RPG, so don't feel bad if you can't invest a ton of time into it. Quote
Kintobor Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I hope to come along! Will the quest have started before Monday, as that is the one day I'm without Internet access. Signups will most likely go up Friday, and the sign ups will most likely end by next Sunday. We'll see, I'm looking for some new heroes for my next quest, ones I haven't hosted before. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I still need an expert class that fits Tesni, it is really tough trying to figure it out! Quote
Palathadric Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Thothwick's already in a relationship, and it may just be heteronormativity speaking, but I was under the impression that Thormanil didn't roll that way. You forget Thormana the Terrible. Hmmm....Am I the only one who thinks we should keep "Secret" reputation in quests secret? Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Aren't you on a quest with Hinckwell rep? I just finished one, yes, but I still need one more quest's worth of rep for Minstrel. Quote
Palathadric Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Alexandre-Beetle 4 (miss: 4 in a row! I ligitimately have no clue why the Random Number Generator is doing this. I have made no edits to the rolls, whatsoever, and I have made every single roll from a different computor at a different time. ) Don't feel bad, if Alexandre had stayed Paladin he would be gaining valuable ether points for those misses. I'm sure CM will testify to that. Quote
Flipz Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Ohhh gosh, get ready for some Who's On First action soon if this guy interacts with us for any length of time... Quote

Zepher Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Don't recognize the quote. That does remind me, however - no one recognized my massive quote in 72 yesterday. It was like 4 lines long. I was super proud of it and thought someone would recognize it, but no one did. Quote
