UsernameMDM Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The speeches are easy to just ignore, though, and in some cases they fit the situation. I tend not to read any character's 'speeches.' Jebediahs - you probably don't want to have the aqua gear equipped, because you'll be causing water elemental damage which is most likely ineffective to the kraken... Just saying I thought the same thing too, but I think it also protects from Aquatic based damage. Quote
Flare Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 (edited) I thought the same thing too, but I think it also protects from Aquatic based damage. It both adds the water-element to attacks and also protects from water-element attacks. But what I didn't notice was that it adds water-element to physical attacks, and that Jebs' character is a Sage that doesn't use physical attacks Arnulf attacks beatle from back row "Damn beatles" Agreed! They had no talent at all! They never should've been popular in the first place! They had ugly hair! Edited July 25, 2013 by Flare Quote
The Legonater Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 If we're striving for realistic characters, maybe we should think if making a speech is in human nature? To be perfectly honest I have a tendency to monologue in real life. That said, when Dyric's speeches aren't quoting Old Spice, I'd like to think they're generally on topic and to the point, the issue is mainly that there are plenty of points to make, and thus a reassuring couple sentences becomes a paragraph. If it's honestly that annoying, I could try to shorten them, but personally I feel that would lose a lot of valuable information. Quote

Scorpiox Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 And even though they're usually good roleplaying. They piss me off like nothing else. What's more, they're usually pointless too. Some characters just have their heads in the clouds asking what the meaning of life is, what their purpose is, etc. Yes, I agree, its really annoying. What? You're saying that, despite long posts admittedly being usually good roleplay, they "piss [You] off like nothing else"? How the does that work? Why does the commitment of some people to this game irritate you? Why is it that you find long, often 'good roleplaying' much more annoying than short, equally good speeches? Really, the obvious thing to do if you are so averted to the effort of some players is don't bother reading their posts. I admit not trawling through the length of some players' monologues, but going so far to say that the sheer idea of a long soliloquy 'pisses me off' is a unusual step to take. However much you may dislike Walls of Text, there is nothing inherently wrong with them in the right context. I also personally dislike abrupt personality changes that happen for no valid reason, but to say that such events 'piss me off like nothing else' would be offensive to the players who put their time into writing such a thing. Have respect to others in their work, if you will. If it's honestly that annoying, I could try to shorten them, but personally I feel that would lose a lot of valuable information. Please, don't change your writing style just because of a couple of players voicing that they personally do not like it. There's no valid reason for Dyric to shift his way of speaking, so do continue what seems natural to you. Quote
Zepher Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 How about no one changes the way they play and we all just drop the matter. Important Life Lesson: You have power over only one person, and that person is yourself. You control your own actions, no one else's. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Are PCs supposed to be able to read any quest in the library, or only from hearing it from someone else? The generally accepted way is that PC's have no inside knowledge of goings on in any quests by default. If another Hero tells them, that's another matter. Quote

Important Life Lesson: You have power over only one person, and that person is yourself. You control your own actions, no one else's. We can always rely on Zepher to resolve issues and offer us Life Lessons over the internet. The generally accepted way is that PC's have no inside knowledge of goings on in any quests by default. If another Hero tells them, that's another matter. This is how I think it should remain also. The general events and happenings I think are common knowledge, whereas more close details and things that one would rather keep secret should only be passed on by word of mouth. Quote
Kintobor Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 The deep fryer isn't ready yet. There's going to be a lot of calamari after this fight and CMP wants to ensure that this kraken meat doesn't go to waste. Quote
Endgame Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Actually, I'm fairly certain the deep fryer is meant for the heroes. Quote
The Legonater Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I don't know about Calamari, but there's probably some Teuthisal laying around we could cook up. Quote

UsernameMDM Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 How about no one is allowed to read a quest they're not in? I don't. I don't read the Hall thread either. I tend to only read the quests I am on, unless it's a Sandy or Zeph quest, which are good stories, but I don't use any knowledge I get from those in game. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I don't know about Calamari, but there's probably some Teuthisal laying around we could cook up. Make sure it's fully cooked; we know that eating raw Teuthisal doesn't turn out well. But we do know that it looks like chicken. Quote

I'll occasionally look into threads to marvel at the photography (Brickdoctor's are always worth a good look), but I never follow a Quest I'm not on. Quote
PsyKater Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Bricksandparts, that's a really nice tutorial in (role)playing this game IMHO! Well done. 69ers: more than 18h since the last round was rolled and not a single action is in!? Are you tired? (Just realized that it is another Nessa-Quest with sexual content...) #3: I am a bit nervous to meet the Kraken "finally". Quote
Peppermint_M Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I keep my character knowing about where she has been and what she has seen. I can't play her as ill educated and I think I mentioned Tesni spending time reading in the library and I decided on moving her speech and intelligence patterns up as time went by. I tend to skip super long posts at times and I live by the rule that if character text (not battle orders and actions) stretches my post size beyond my tags, I have to edit it shorter. Quote

How about no one is allowed to read a quest they're not in? I have to say that this would help me to spend a lot less time on EB. Perhaps Monk Pretzel will write a "short" summary of all the quests he's been on and put it in the library. These will become the "official" versions of the quests. Hopefully, none of his teammates will read what he wrote in the library so everyone will think it's correct. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 As a note: I will be away for a while, though I will have phone internet and possibly a little WiFi with The Cloud and pubs. If I am taking too long, guys you can feel free to point Tesni and shoot! Quote
Endgame Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Woah, Sandy, that is a whole lot of HP to carve through. Wait, so is the Lone Star's special basically Rock/Paper/Scissors? Quote

Endgame Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 By my math, every hero has to do about 1785.71428571 damage. Have fun, 75ers! Quote
