Brickdoctor Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Is there still time to join? this looks really cool good work sandy Heroica RPG is an ongoing game; you can join at any time. However, sign-ups for the first Quests just closed, so although you can join the game right now, you can't participate in a Quest yet. (but you can still chat with other players in the Hall and possibly buy some things in the Marketplace with your initial supply of Gold) Quote
Sandy Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 Thank you for pointing out the poor logic I used by giving the Rogues a ranged weapon as well. But I have a solution: From now on, weapons of the throwing weapon category (e.g. boomerangs, shurikens, throwing daggers) take a turn to retrieve. So once you've successfully attacked with the weapon from the back row, you have to spend the next turn retrieving it if you wish to attack again. Because of this change, any Rogue or Ranger who has already chosen a throwing weapon as their starting weapon are allowed to switch their weapon if they want to. For the other question, Venom is used on a weapon either outside battle or during a battle, but it will only last one battle either way. Quote
JimBee Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 boomerangs take a turn to retrieve. Unless I'm mistaken, boomerangs come back to you automatically. I kid, I kid. Thanks Sandy, this seems like a fair compromise. Though I think I'll stick with my scythe now. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 That seems fair. Thanks for adjusting that, Sandy. So this makes Rangers the only class that can attack at full power every turn from the back row, right? And us bow users have nothing to worry about as far as this change is concerned? Quote
Sandy Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 I just hope this doesn't make people abandon throwing weapons altogether. Remember that you can carry several weapons at a time, so once you've thrown one throwing weapon, you could throw another and then spend one turn retrieving them both. Then, an important notice: ~Once the quests starts, the players participating to those quests should not post into the Heroica Hall and Marketplace topics, unless given permit by the Quest Master!~ Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) I have 2 questions. 1; Is there a point to have money during a quest? (You don't really have to answer this if you think it's not appropriate) 2; Does venom work when applied to a staff? Rules say yes, but there's no penetration from a hit by that (which is why DnD v.3.5 label the staff's damage as "non-lethal.") Thanks a bunch, and I'm really glad I got into a quest! Edit: Also, Ether recharges with health after a good night's rest right? ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited August 20, 2011 by Dannylonglegs Quote

Other than that, you should spend your money mostly on preparing for quests. 2. Yes, it works with staves just as well. I'm trying to keep this game as simple as possible for accessibility reasons. 3. A bedroll/inn rest restores health and ether completely, and they are naturally also fully restored in-between quests. Neither health nor ether is automatically restored over time during a quest, though. Quote

K-Nut Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 I apologize to the members who are in the 3rd quest for delaying them. This shopping is confusing the heck out of me. But I got it now. Again, I apologize for delaying you guys. Quote

Again, I apologize for delaying you guys. Hey no worries, it happens, thanks for sorting it out. The quest doesn't start until tomorrow anyway, and I'm still trying to talk Quarryman into buying a bedroll. Quote

Sandy Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 I apologize the delay, I'm sure you chosen players are all eager to start the quests. I will work my hardest to start at least Quests #1 and #2 in a matter of hours, but unfortunately Quest #3 will be postponed to start tomorrow. Quote

Only four of my team have reported since this morning, anyways. Quote
Sandy Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 The first two quests are now underway, with the third one starting tomorrow. I now have to go to sleep, but I'll be back bright and early to check the progress of the quests. Unfortunately different time zones restrict the pace of the quests, so I hope patience from all of you. Quote
Fred Fred Burger Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Hey sandy, would you consider maybe integrating some sort of morality scale into the game? I think that it would be fun and ad that extra little RPG element to the game. But other players might find it cumbersome and distracting from other important parts of the game. I'm really just thinking out loud here. Quote
Rubik Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Ooh, sounds like fun. Great job organizing all of this Sandy! Does your character have to be a minifig though? Could I make a brick-built character instead, you know, like some sort of medieval hardsuit or something? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Hinckwells? And Ziegfrieds and Shadeaux. Quote
Sandy Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Hey sandy, would you consider maybe integrating some sort of morality scale into the game? There is a similar scale in this game, but it's not about good vs. evil, but it measures loyalty to each faction. As you do quests for the houses in power, you gain reputation among them. Some reputations cancel each other out, though (you can't be in good terms with both the Hinckwells and the Shadeaux, for example). A good reputation will make it easier for you to get on quests pitched by that faction. Does your character have to be a minifig though? Could I make a brick-built character instead, you know, like some sort of medieval hardsuit or something? Yes, for cohesiveness's sake, I wish all characters are minifigs. I'm not opposed to brickbuilt feet or something like that, though. And Ziegfrieds and Shadeaux. And the Bonapartes, the Guild of Invision and the House of Ji Pei. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 And the Bonapartes, the Guild of Invision and the House of Ji Pei. Ah, yes. I noticed the Guild of Invision, but I didn't know about the Bonapartes and Ji Peis. Hurray for new story info! Quote
Zepher Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 JimBee, haven't complimented it yet, but I absolutely adore your character design. I keep marveling at it and it finally occurred to me that I haven't complimented it to your face yet, so awesome job, he's very cool to look at! Quote
