Flare Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Out of curiosity, do most people design loot (either new consumables or special weapons/artifacts) before or during a quest, i.e. does the class/level/current inventory of your party determine what your enemies drop? I design loot before the quest, not dependent on the party (in most cases, as far as I remember). ... bought from a dodgy (Sorry flare but a crocodile man is about as suspicious as you can get) bloke... Scubacarrot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) Meh. The only cool/unique/does something special/would put in a build/would not easily swap out item I ever got was the original WP: 5 Lifestealer, and the Dancing Shoes. Which are not that great, unless you are really lucky with them, and very situational. I'm not being ungrateful, it's a fact. QM's haven't been very generous (or creative!) towards me, and that's not me putting on a sully face, that's another fact. I would have preferred the hat over the 85 gold, but whatever. I'll just upgrade my weapon. Again. Edited October 1, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote
Zepher Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Most players have even less than that special loot/power-wise. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Most players have even less than that special loot/power-wise. Players that have completed as many quests/played for the same time, Nah, but it doesn't matter, it's not a big deal, items are not the most important thing, cool items that could incorporate roleplaying would be absolutely appreciated, but not the most important thing. Zepher Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) What about WBD? Or me? Or even Sandy? Haldor, Nerwen, Thothwick. Cronk? Lots of heroes don't have lots of nice powerful items... Edited October 1, 2013 by Zepher Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 And you don't have to wait for QMs to drop you something; you can always go looking for good items, especially with the amount of Gold you have. Docken's only stand out drop was the Dread Hat. I bought or earned everything else. Quote
CMP Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 QM's haven't been very generous (or creative!) towards me, and that's not me putting on a sully face, that's another fact. That's fair, I'm never generous towards any players. I give whatever loot I think is a fair amount for the party and let them handle it from there. If I directly give someone loot over others (IE the song I just gave Erik in Quest 69) it's because it was pre-planned and there was requirement they fulfilled (he was the first to tip the bard back when the Quest started). That said, I've dropped you the damn bait, if you're going to use this Voucher, now's your chance. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 That said, I've dropped you the damn bait, if you're going to use this Voucher, now's your chance. Some low level alchemist no one's ever heard of? Might as well. I forgot all about that. Quote
CMP Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Some low level alchemist no one's ever heard of? Might as well. I forgot all about that. You mean the alchemist Guts saved back in Quest 63 who now idolizes him as his hero?! Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) I am confused. Oh, I see, he got a haircut and grew himself a goatee. No wonder Guts didn't recognize him. What about WBD? Or me? Or even Sandy? Haldor, Nerwen, Thothwick. Cronk? Lots of heroes don't have lots of nice powerful items... I'd argue with you on yourself and Cronk for items, possibly others, and all of the people mentioned have less quests under the belt. But as I said, it doesn't matter. (Much, money isn't everything... there's items too. ) Edited October 1, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote
Scorpiox Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Yes? Hybros used that strategy, in combination with the Banana Bladerang, as far back as before Quest 50. No, but this time I shall be responsible for that monstrosity by giving Mizuki those daggers. It's like Alec Guiness in Bridge Over The River Kwai, he feels so much worse before he dies because he realises that it's all his fault. Dancing Shoes aren't useful? And neither is immunity to everything or a WP: 34 weapon, apparently. I think that Guts has outgrown his ability to be pitied by being the single most powerful hero in the game. If he got much more powerful loot it would worrying, quite frankly. :shrug_def: I'd argue with you on yourself and Cronk for items, possibly others, and all of the people mentioned have less quests under the belt. In all seriousness though, just because I have these weapon stats, and have had for a while, is that a reason to give me relatively less or worse loot? I don't know if that's true or not, actually, but whatev's. It's something that's happening anyway, weapons with higher and higher WP's given out as a response to Lifestealer. Waterbrick Down Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Haldor was here and on his second quest by the time Guts arrived, I think. I think his point is quantity of quests, not amount of time spent in Heroica. Quote

People don't give you loot, they give the party loot. The thing is, balanced loot is rarely useful for completely unbalanced Guts. Quote

That's what you think what is happening, but actually, Guts makes claim to all loot. It's the law. Seriously though, 4 out of 5 times when (good?) loot is dropped in a standard party it's pretty clear who's going to get it. Quote

Meh, it's close enough. 2m/s makes no difference on a Jet Fighter. I'd have to agree with Pie, although. Since most of the loot in quests isn't player-specific, most parties prefer to share out loot to the weakest heroes first. Quote

Right, the people who need them, not the guy who can already drop half the enemy party in three rounds. Update coming in a matter of minutes. Quote
Rumble Strike Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I design drops based on the enemy dropping them. I like the way Sandy does this too. Quote
CMP Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 That wasn't a matter of minutes, was it? Oh well. At least I got that photoshopped explosion in there! Thothwick, should we tell our thief here about the time Nyx nearly blew us to Helvetia? Which time in what place with what people in what Quest? That happens more often than you might think. And I hope I captured Guts' look of dejection in the first picture while he's staring at the guitar. Quote
Scorpiox Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Which time in what place with what people in what Quest? That happens more often than you might think. The final battle of Quest #53, it was so hilarious. Definitely my favourite moment of the quest. Quote
Kintobor Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The final battle with Wren? Ha! I was making fun of that battle before it was cool! Pie, what are the Camera thingies stats? I don't think you posted them. Quote
CMP Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Pie, what are the Camera thingies stats? I don't think you posted them. It showed up earlier in the Quest, but I guess I could post them again. (Gives the hero the Slowed effect, suitable for heroes, accessory.) Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The explosion is awesome. Also, Pie, your battles are pretty damn good so far, they seem genuinely challenging but fair at the same time, and you don't even resort to the lucky or hastened enemies. I'm very impressed. Quote
