Jebediahs Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Yeah...and why are people apologizing for the way their characters act/react/respond? We all understand that you as a person aren't your Heroica character. *rabble*rabble*rabble* Quote
JimBee Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Right, only on those can you sacrifice health. Got it, thanks. Okay, one more question, this time on Evokers. When a spirit is out in battle, "separate turns" means that the Evoker and the spirit can attack in one round? And when shield is rolled, does the spirit automatically attack the specified target at the cost of one ether in the same round? Quote

I really just want to make sure nobody is offended by the way Althior treats them. He's being a real @ss at this point in the game. Quote
Khorne Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Just making a little commentary on Character Development. Don't take this a mean way folks, but character development should take place over a spread of time. I feel like characters change so quickly sometimes . Everyone just changes so quickly (I like this person, never mind OR I'm happy go lucky, never mind I'm really cynical and jaded all of a sudden). Or your back story bubbles forward on the first quest. [...] I agree. I understand it's fun to build your character, but as Zepher pointed it, when doing it too fast, it will leave you with nothing for the future. Plus, extending it over a long period of time makes it more exciting and thrilling (and plausible, nobody would all of their secrets to people they've never seen before). I love reading De'kra's story, because it's being built up so slowly, yet at an enjoyable pace. I am on my third Quest now and I practically haven't given anything away about Eric. All I've said is that's he's been banished from his realm and that he's got a wacky sword. Heck, I never even mentioned he was a prince until this Quest. And even then, he only thought that to himself, the others don't know it . I've only dropped hints about his past and action here and there, but no big chunks yet. I kinda like the mystery that shrouds him. It suits him, too. It's in his nature not go telling stuff around to everybody and sharing his issues and problems.Sounds like a long rant now . I just wanted to let you know I agree with Zepher. However, the choice lays with the player of course and how they want to develop their character. Quote
CMP Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I dunno if you're referring to me, but I'm intentionally making Atramor's personality all over the place. The last quest kind of shook him, but he's taking flak from half of the Hall for the way he acts. If you're not referring to me...cool. Quote
K-Nut Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I just realized that Althior has a lot of character building to do, so this is slow in his eyes. I gotta' put in Crozen somewhere! Plus I need some development fo Finnegan, so this is going to take a while. Quote
Sandy Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 The Ji Pei and the Wolfgang are a total blank for me (well, except the Ji Pei on the far left--oddly enough, I've gotten all the parts to build him within the exact timeframe that the Heroica RPG has been active ). (I do recognize Ogel's face on Steerpike as well, but not the rest of him). I have most of the Zegfried faces aside from Zelda (where is that from?), but I have no idea where I'd find the clothes (aside from Sprout's stuff on...I believe that's Mabel, right?). I'm also at a loss for Nuitan Shadeaux's face and shirt, Belannotte's hair, Umbra's face, and Noctus' clothing (both shirt and pants). Here's a list of the parts you are wondering about: Jun Ji Pei: hair - Sumo Wrestler from CMF, head - Cad Bane from Star Wars, torso & legs - Kai DX from Ninjago, sword hilt - Prince of Persia Vincent Legonardo: hair - Palpatine from SW, head - Agents, beard - Grand Carousel, torso - PotC, legs - Atlantis Shanxian Ji Pei - hat - Luminara Unduli from SW, head - Space Insectoids, torso - Orient Expedition China, dress - Castle Knights Kingdom I Lee Long: hair - Merman from Harry Potter/Poison Ivy from Batman, head - Indiana Jones, hands - Boxer from CMF, torso & legs - Speed Racer Steerpike: hair - PotC, head - Ogel from Alpha Team/Evil Wizard from Castle Fantasy Era, torso - Snape from Harry Potter, legs - Castle Knights Kingdom I Ulric Wolfkin: head - Werewolf from Studios/Harry Potter, torso - Cad Bane from Star Wars, legs - Zombie from CMF Violetta: hair - princess from Kingdoms, head - Helena from Pharaoh's Quest, torso & legs - Luminara Unduli from SW Donny Dozenhands: hat - Castle Fantasy Era/Kingdoms, head - Pirates, cape - Troll King/Shaman from Castle Fantasy Era, torso - Orient Expedition India, legs - Indiana Jones Nuitan Shadeaux: head - City, torso - Goblin from Harry Potter Bellanotte Shadeaux: hair - Tamina from Prince of Persia Noctus Shadeaux: torso - Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter, legs - Castle Knights Kingdom I Umbra Shadeaux: face - Green Race Car Driver from Town EDIT: I'd also love to know where all those shields are from, I've never seen any of them except the Shadeaux emblem, and then only on the "oval" version of the shield. The shields originate from these themes: Hinckwells: Castle Fantasy Era Crown Knights Shadeaux: Castle Fright Knights Ziegfrieds: Harry Potter (Durmstrang Ship) Bonapartes: Castle Black Falcons Guild of Invision: Castle Knights Kingdom II (Mistlands Tower & Gargoyle Bridge) Ji Pei: Orient Expedition China (flag) Wolfgang: Castle Wolf Pack Hope these help! Everyone just changes so quickly (I like this person, never mind OR I'm happy go lucky, never mind I'm really cynical and jaded all of a sudden). Or your back story bubbles forward on the first quest. Sure, that's fun, but if we play this game for a while, your character will have no more back story to reveal and they'll be flip-flopping so much as to who they are it won't really read to the others and you'll just have a watery character. Things can change for characters, but maybe justify them better, or make it happen slower? Look at Tesni. This is her THIRD quest with her sword and things are finally really starting to poke through, and she's really starting to change. The time it took her to change is plausible. Same with Dek'ra or Hybros, we saw a glimpse into their pasts, who they are, and that's affecting their actions, but clearly there's more to see and more to learn and the changes are huge, but they're there. Boomingham has a back story, yes, he does, but nothing would make him say it all of a sudden out of the blue, I'm waiting. Sorry, I'm not trying to ruin anyone's fun or step on anyone's feet, I'm just critiquing from a story tellers point of view. Yup, Zepher the old wet rag to kill the fun. sorry guys, just wanted to say it, take it as it is, don't be offended, and consider it if you feel like it! Hooray, I am a positive example! Honestly though I am not sure I do a great job hiding De'kra's nature, or at least hiding all of it. Probably all of you have some clue as to what De'kra is, as some of his memories/features are kind of obvious. Luckily your character's don't know the significance of those clues, so his backstory is safe for the moment. Edited December 11, 2011 by Tanma Quote

Yeah, I have a tendency to either hint so lightly at backstory that no one picks it up, or else I end up with an infodump. I'll try and balance it out a little more, and if this Quest turns out anything like Althior is suggesting, it'll probably make Arthur clam up a bit. Yeah...and why are people apologizing for the way their characters act/react/respond? We all understand that you as a person aren't your Heroica character. *rabble*rabble*rabble* Well, some people don't understand, especially when they're new to roleplaying, so it's better to be safe than sorry. When I first started RP'ing, I dropped out of an awesome Star Wars RPG once in part because I mistook one player's jerkish words and actions to be coming from the player rather than fom his (dark side) character. Like I said, better safe than sorry. Quote

Sandy Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Question on the Black Knight: If the player chooses to give up health to add power to their strike, and they roll miss, damage, or special damage, do they still lose health, without attacking the enemy? The Black Knight should mention if they want to give up health BEFORE the results are calculated, but they will not lose that health if they don't hit anything. Okay, one more question, this time on Evokers. When a spirit is out in battle, "separate turns" means that the Evoker and the spirit can attack in one round? And when shield is rolled, does the spirit automatically attack the specified target at the cost of one ether in the same round? Yes, the spirit will attack immediately on the turn it is summoned. If in a later round the evoker takes a turn before the spirit and gets a SHIELD for the second time, the spirit will perform a Summon Burst and vanish without attacking anymore. Hope I made it clearer now. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Just making a little commentary on Character Development. I agree. I even took it a little further with the appearance of Hoke. His armor and clothing started off pretty humble, and over the quests, he has accumulated better clothes and armor. I use the armor in addition to his battle experience to explain away his increase and health and how he can take more damage. I've got his new look all ready to go, just need to finish this quest. I am working on his personality as well. He was quiet and shy to begin with, but now he is taking on a more confident and commanding presence. He is becoming a knight. Quote

Well of *course* we will.. I think. Unless, of course, tonight happens to be that one single, lonely guard's birthday, and even though he has to work, all his guard-buddy-friends decided to throw a surprise party for him on his night-shift. Peppermint_M Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Just making a little commentary on Character Development. *snip* Heh, thanks. I love writing and Tesni is great fun to develop. Let's just say I have some strange philosophical meanderings about darkness (I was always a rather macabre child and I never outgrew it) and one darkness weilding unsuccessful questor has a surprise coming their way... Plus there is a lot of development still on the backburner. Quote

Tanma Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Just for the record. Chimpanzees don't have tails. Likewise Chimpanzees are not the fondest of poo, they actually are pretty clean. Many tribes use leaves to wipe their butts and "male areas" of waste, along with dabbing their cuts with them. Also, Chimpanzees don't really like Bananas, that stereotype was created because researchers dumped piles of bananas near troops so that the attracted Chimpanzees could be observed. A free meal is a free meal, even if it isn't your preferred food. Chimpanzees actually savor meat above all else. It takes a lot of effort to coordinate and hunt down prey, and so it has greater value. Meat is almost a currency for them, you can win favors and loyalty by giving meat to your supporters and preferred mates. ...yeah I like Chimpanzees. In my opinion they, along with Orangutans, Bonobos (don't get me started), a huge chunk of the species of monkeys in South America, oh so many Dolphins and Whales, and a good number of elephant species should be considered sapient life forms.
