JimBee Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Nerf all loot. Thanks for the constructive feedback. Maybe instead of shouting random abrasive comments in every discussion we have about rules in this game, you could back your arguments a little more? Just a suggestion if you want people to listen to you. Quote
Tachyon Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Oh sorry, did I offend someone who relies on loot to be the strongest and wants more ? Just saying, a lot of quests since #32 have dropped too much loot. Gems used to be rare, now practically everyone has several. SP used to be in the 3-5 catagory, now people are running around with 15-20 SP, WP used to be 10-15, We've now got people with WP 20-40. Please stop giving out loot. Quote

Something to note: The lower-levelled players today are about at the same point as the lower-levelled players today. The curve hasn't altered too heavily for anyone below level 20 - but as people grow closer and closer to Expert Classes, due to the huge boosts, the loot and difficulty curve hit a bit of a spike. JimBee Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Oh sorry, did I offend someone who relies on loot to be the strongest and wants more ? That's not at all what I said or implied. Again, you're not being very constructive. "Stop giving out loot" is simply not an option, IMO. This is an RPG, loot is the defining reward system of this kind of game. Are there ways to prevent power creep? Yes, but not dropping loot altogether won't do anything to improve the situation. I'm with Scuba here, every QM should run loot through Sandy (or even possibly other QMs. As knowing you are, Sandy, you obviously can't know the right answer 100% of the time, as we see with things like the Pheles Rod). Anything that falls through the cracks can be discussed, as it is now. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 For the record, I didn't actually run the Axe past Sandy this time, because the mechanic was already approved way back in Quest 31. All I did was give it a nerf to bring it closer to what my original idea of the weapon was and give it a buff which I considered was appropriate considering the progression of the game between the two drops, and considering the fact that no one wanted the weapon last time when it was WP: 20 and had fewer negative effects. If Sandy wants me to drop the WP to 30 or so, I'll do it, but otherwise I think it's fine as-is. Quote
joeshmoe554 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 The lower-levelled players today are about at the same point as the lower-levelled players today. I believe that, due to the Reflexive Property of Equality, that will always be true. Quote
Endgame Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Whoops, accidental application of tautology. Revision: The lower-levelled players today are about at the same point as the lower-levelled players of the past. Quote
Scorpiox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I'm not actually arguing against this item or calling for a nerf, I've just been trying to prove to the Quest #77 just how valuable that item is. A couple of pages back, some people were offering to purchase it for a meagre 200 gold - I hope that my posts have made it clear that it's worth a LOT more than that. In a sentence: the party should be fighting over that thing, not trying to give it away. Nerfing this to WP: 30 or lower is unnecessary - many rogues already have close to that kind of power already. My only wish is that it ends up in the hands of a non-rogue class, or that Zepher holds onto the thing. For what it's worth: Stopping loot and rewards should definitely not happen, and nothing can convince me otherwise. Obviously, the best option is to keep giving out loot as it is now, and just catching and discussing the items that slip through the cracks, like some kind of democracy. Quote

I think that the actual solution is to create new rare commodities. But I thoroughly agree. Then Again, I'm being hypocritical. I am the guy with the Wp: 17 Hollow Imbued dual strike daggers. Quote
swils Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 The classics are always a solid option to temper power creep: gold, consumables, and vendor-trash. Quote

Sandy Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 I'm with Scuba here, every QM should run loot through Sandy (or even possibly other QMs. As knowing you are, Sandy, you obviously can't know the right answer 100% of the time, as we see with things like the Pheles Rod). Anything that falls through the cracks can be discussed, as it is now. What, are you saying I'm not infallible?! How dare you! I've been beating myself in the head over some of my own creations (the Healing Staffs and the Pheles Rod, to name a few), but the good thing about this game is that it's flexible to change. If mechanics get jumbled up, they can be altered so that they start working again. I still don't agree on founding any "QM's Committee", despite my shortcomings. I think the current system of bringing issues and suggestions up at the Rules & FAQ -topic for public digestion has been working so far. I would like to keep the final say on my hands, since I do know the mechanics best out of everyone, even though I cannot always take everything into consideration myself. ] If Sandy wants me to drop the WP to 30 or so, I'll do it, but otherwise I think it's fine as-is. That's probably for the best. Please drop the WP to 30, thank you. Also, Sandy, Atramor's Critical Hit was miscalculated; it strikes a random opponent (but still counts as targeting the original enemy for purposes of Free Hits). Nope, that would be "Chaotic Strike", but I rolled a "3" for Atramor, which is a "Critical Hit" in the Regulator's Chaotic Style. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 That's probably for the best. Please drop the WP to 30, thank you. All right. Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Nice post in the hall Kintober. You can see that sarge is in two places at once and has recovered a leg in one of your pictures. Quote
Scorpiox Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 That could be interesting. Dark matter or something epic of the sort. "Well, I would give you your reward... but unfortunately it isn't physical. Perhaps I could simply give you a piece of what the reward isn't?" Quote
Palathadric Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Or maybe people should run all items through Sandy Isn't that supposed to be, like, a law for unique items? Quote
Zepher Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 To everyone (but mostly Kintober and Sandy): Is there a name for the Last King of Ennon at this point? Do either of you have a preference on it? Quote
Kintobor Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Ennoc has quite the prevelance in an upcoming quest of mine in (the third part of the Vault arc, the Baltarok one at that), but I haven't decided anything. Sandy? Your thoughts? Speaking of upcoming quests, Ji Pei rep, anyone? Quote
Zepher Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I know, and you know we're going to Baltarok before that. I think there will be a lot of stuff for you to build off of once we're done with our visit. Quote

I think there will be a lot of stuff for you to build off of once we're done with our visit. I've known about it for a while, and I'm fine with it. It did ruin my plans slightly, since I'm going to have to put the Vault Arc on backlog, but I really hope to get Boomers on the quest. Like dead set, really think you should go on it, Zepher. I'm not angry with the guys planning the trilogy at all, if anything it's bad timing (like 86 ) and if you want my input, you know where I'm at. I still can't believe the surge of people that jumped ship the moment the marketplace quest came along. See, the negative with Karie is that she hates the Watch, so there's no way I could get her on that quest, despite me really dying to go on a Sandy quest. Oh well, one of these days... Quote
Sandy Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 To everyone (but mostly Kintober and Sandy): Is there a name for the Last King of Ennon at this point? Do either of you have a preference on it? Last King of Ennon, huh? I looked at the Heroica boardgame website, but the king isn't named there, either. I'd probably go with a clichéd king's name like Theodorus or Augustus. I know, and you know we're going to Baltarok before that. I think there will be a lot of stuff for you to build off of once we're done with our visit. I'm waiting for you guys to let ME in on the plans, too. Quote
Duvors Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 To everyone (but mostly Kintober and Sandy): Is there a name for the Last King of Ennon at this point? Do either of you have a preference on it? Well, the Heroica board game calls him 'The King' so maybe something like Regalis? Quote

Sandy? Your thoughts? Speaking of upcoming quests, Ji Pei rep, anyone? Ji Pei rep... I haven't got any rep yet, but Ji Pei, Shadeaux and Ziegfried rep does sound the best to me... Palathadric Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 OoC Do they cancel smoke bombs? Which raises an interesting question. What if the person bearing the Shackles of War is knocked out. Does it still prevent anyone from fleeing? Quote
