Exactly, writers should strive to make their characters unique, or at the very least distinctive.

On the subject of animal companions: I'm ambivalent. Mostly any concept can be excellent or poor... It's all about execution, in my mind.

If you have a pet/familiar/girl/boyfriend/split personality that's one thing, but if it ends up being a crutch for your roleplaying, you should probably reconsider. I don't mind them otherwise - Zepher, CallMePie, and Flitwick all play their companion roles exceptionally well, without letting it interfere with their quests. And they've all happened by happy chance or something similar, such as Thothwick meeting Hoptet or Boomingham becoming a Paladin. Atramor had the chicken from day one, but who knew it was demonic? Besides, they all have their own well-defined characters besides the companions, which I think is ideal.

On another note, I love Heckz. A sarcastic, conceited pretty boy - it's a simple character, but sometimes you don't need a convoluted backstory to be awesome.

I love it when a character is so completely unreasonable in such a perfect manner. He and Monk Pretzel define this category.

I've been loving Heckz since day one. I hosted the guy twice, and he's probably one of my favourite PCs. I love you all equally, but Heckz is on a different level entirely.
