Kintobor Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Wouldn't the Diamond negate the effects of the Amethyst? You can't have a weapon that's both holy and unholy. Where's the logic in that? Quote
CMP Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Rule of thumb I go by: don't worry about gems. How much damage do you do per battle again? If you have more than two weapons, you're in the clear for whatever you want to do. My main weapon has like 6 gems imbued. The only thing I don't do damage to is Rock and Ethereal. A big investment, but I have massive multipliers on the most common enemies: Vermin and Beasts. Wouldn't the Diamond negate the effects of the Amethyst? You can't have a weapon that's both holy and unholy. Where's the logic in that? You deal normal damage to Holy and Demonic enemies, double to Humanoids and Undead. Diamond is ineffective to Holy, Amethyst to Demon, so it balances itself out. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I now have 3 good weapons. 1 that can hit ethereal and 2 that will deal good damage on absolutely everything else. Thank you everyone. Quote

I think I've made it clear what kind of a player I am in this game, and it's not a min/max stat everything play style. I'm the anti-Docken. Well that makes absolutely no sense in my mind. Your imbuing a weapon with light and dark elements. The sword should implode upon itself. I may do it to one of my weapons, but not now. The Oculoid Palm and Sexy are fine for now, and I don't have the funds to be imbuing stuff left right and centre AND pay for ether and potions and stuff. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) Rule of thumb I go by: don't worry about gems. They can help you out in a bind, but can also be a burden. If any, go for an amethyst, darkness energy, and socket it in a secondary weapon. Your primary weapon should never have gems infused, so you're never at a disadvantage when dealing with enemies. As well, you'll want to have one non elemental to deal with ethereal enemies, which are starting to become popular. That depends on your class, if your class is a specialty or support class than dealing damage may not be your first priority. If you're a damage dealer, you want to find the most economical way to do the most damage. Hunter for instance usually gets a 3x multiplier to power so that usually means additive upgrades like WP are generally a wash. Thus it's much cheaper for me to invest 1500 gold in gem imbuement to essentially double my damage output than to spend the 1500 Gold on raising one weapon's power by ~10 levels. Scubacarrot Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Or you can spend the money on frivolous stuff because when you get your multipliers on you basically kill everything already in one hit already? Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 What I don't understand is how humans of the same age and skill as our heroes get 100 times more health.. Quote

And that's the end of it. Lifestealer has both a diamond and an amethyst (and an opal, but you know). I say the battle between light and dark causes the weapon to sometimes glow faintly in the dark, and sometimes make a bright room seem dim, sometimes the weapon can be felt pulsing with dark or reassuring power. It is clear there is magic in strife inside the short blade, but no one person could say how that is possible. One thing is for sure though, you don´t want to get cut by it, for the blade stings, drains the cut place and it´s surroundings from feeling, when left unattended, the wound will turn the flesh dark, and what around it bright red... One thing´s for sure. Those gems are ingredients for a deadly weapon... Edited November 25, 2013 by Scubacarrot Quote

It's all for RP purposes anyways, a rat should not be able to take a hit from an ogre. I agree though, I've about gotten to the point where I'm more interested in unique items than stuff that gives a mechanical advantage. Quote
Scorpiox Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Thank you Captain, and thank you for the fantastic quest. Seconded. Quote

Waterbrick Down Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 There is no direct corrolation between Hero stats and Enemy stats. Which is why PvP doesn't work without serious mechanical adjustments. It basically comes down to who shoots first. Quote

Say WBD, how is that battle calculator coming along you were working on a while back? You know I quite forgot about that, I was hyped about it in my programming class, then finals, interviews, and the real world hit and I never got around to it. Guess with all my free time, I could probably put one together. The hard parts are special damage and passive specials, there's so much variety that it's nigh impossible to program something that takes everything into account. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Can´t you put up a few basic ones like ones that inflict status effects, flat damage, a combination, all heroes damage/status, row damage/status, that sort of thing? Quote
Pandora Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Lifestealer has both a diamond and an amethyst (and an opal, but you know). <nice section about the weapon> I am very happy now that my Standard now has those three elements too; I'd like to think something similar is happening within it as well (albeit without the lifestealing bit). Plus, I still have my Book (and its occasional spider) for the general belting of Etherials. Quote

That's definitely doable and I'll think I'll start with something simple, but imagine trying to program something for an Endgame battle. Quote
Endgame Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 That's definitely doable and I'll think I'll start with something simple, but imagine trying to program something for an Endgame battle. I thought we all finally reached the consensus that I am, in fact, the Skynet Jr. I've dabbled with minor programming myself, and I can safely say that it would be absurdly difficult/borderline impossible to code that.
