Zepher Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 As a QM I always list power bonuses and sometimes list power. Quote
Flipz Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Well, for planning purposes, Power can be useful as sort of an average of how much damage a Hero/Party can put out, but then again it's not THAT hard to calculate manually. Quote
hoanganhbeo Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Hơ can I adjust my hero avatar to 100x100 ? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 If you have Flickr you can use that to do it, if not, picresize.com. Quote
Sandy Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 May I ask why there is still a need for power to be listed on character stats? I think instead of power being listed, there should be power boosts being listed (Extra power from artifacts or permanent boosts). After all, power takes up room and (I think) Is very rarely used. I have grown accustomed calculating attacks through using the "Power"-statistic, so that I don't have to do extra calculus every time someone rolls a hit. For critical and extra critical attacks, I just add the WP of the chosen weapon to the Power once or twice. I know other QMs prefer calculating the power each time, but I don't. That's why I need the Power-stat to show. It doesn't "take room" any more than a line for listing power bonuses. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I just list the "Power Bonus" in my stats as part of the grey explanation calculations for the stat. The QM can choose whichever version is easier to use for him. Quote

Endgame Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Why does it not surprise me how poorly run the academy is? Quote
Rufus Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Scuba, are you sure that a rusty level 13 cleric will be of any use with all these level 100-somethings? Quote
Zepher Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Oh we'll look after you, don't worry! You should come along! Quote
Sandy Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Calculus ?! I didn't realize that this was that complicated! I know you love to have a laugh at my imperfect English, but it's getting disrespectful. Just throwing it out there... Quote
Palathadric Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Scuba, are you sure that a rusty level 13 cleric will be of any use with all these level 100-somethings? I still want to have my all-Cleric company of Maurice, Nerwen, Pretzel, and Rufindel, although only Rufindel is still a Cleric now. Just realized that all the rest of us are Paladins at present. That would be awesome! Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Had we ever brought up the topic of creating a Heroica battle calculator? So you'd input all the hero's stats, actions and enemy stats and it'd run the rounds automatically. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Scuba, are you sure that a rusty level 13 cleric will be of any use with all these level 100-somethings? I was not counting on you making a comeback... So... I don't know... Edited February 5, 2014 by Scubacarrot Quote

Not terribly difficult with the basic classes, but the sheer number and variety of special items and special damages/passive specials make it really messy. Palathadric Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Paladins are a handy-dandy class to have around, and everyone should always take them on the most exciting and rewarding quests in my opinion. Amen! Edited February 5, 2014 by Palathadric Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I know you love to have a laugh at my imperfect English, but it's getting disrespectful. Just throwing it out there... I don't think that we mean to stampede on your English, after all, we all make a slip of the tongue every now and then. Even people that speak only English make mistakes in spelling and use. I've weighed the benefits of programming something like this before. Not terribly difficult with the basic classes, but the sheer number and variety of special items and special damages/passive specials make it really messy. I as well have thought about this. The main problem I've thought of is specials from enemies. Each time you had a new special you'd have to program that as well. Otherwise, such a calculator would be really helpful. Also I'm not a good programmer so I'm not the person to ask... Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I've considered making simplified categories, i.e. X damage, X affect, etc... but it's still a daunting task. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 And don't forget QM-made effects... Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I've weighed the benefits of programming something like this before. Not terribly difficult with the basic classes, but the sheer number and variety of special items and special damages/passive specials make it really messy. Same. I got started on one that ran on Javascript just as a side project last summer (Flipz tested a couple versions for me.), and got as far as the calculator working for Barbarians and Clerics with Rogues being worked on, but the effects were being changed and created faster than I could write functions for them and there were so many variables that had to be different for each class that it was just taking too long to write all the different equations for all the different possibilities. Quote
Flipz Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I think more than a battle round calculator, a Hero Stats calculator would be more helpful--i.e. you type in the numbers and check boxes for things like immunities and effects, and it spits out a simple, clean stat block without adding in thousands of characters of junk BBCode like the rich-text editor does. So I'm pretty much sucked out of humor. My apologies. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Eubric Castle?!?!?! Heroica RPG has an enormous amount of background and story line to take in. We can't expect everyone to have examined every map, read through every quest, before they join in. Besides that's not exactly the way to welcome someone new. Welcome aboard hoanganhbeo! Quote
Kintobor Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Well I found it humorous! It's a new player, and we generally allow it to slip. I don't think you were fully aware of the amount of backstory when you first joined, and neither was I. (Despite lurking the site for several years and following the game for about a year before joining. ) Welcome as well, hoanganhbeo! Quote
