Zepher Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 It depends on the villain, honestly. The Grim Grinning Ghosts were meant to be somewhat comedic, so they're reappearance in 78 was meant to be rather humorous. The Shadow Sisters I intended to be somewhat mysterious, so you want to know more about them the more you see them (that and Irene's adorable ). And then they're's another character who I'm introducing shortly who is a villain and is fought twice. The first time you get a glimpse of the plan. The second time... Repeated villains and allies are okay to me! It's only repeated Big Bads that I personally have a distaste for. Quote
Endgame Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Wait a minute, why would no one have ever used that invincibility spell? Also why would Regret have it? I feel like I'm critiquing a movie now. I mentioned no such spell. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I'm fine with big bads as long as they are original enough. After a while, they can turn a bit sour. One day, I found myself trapped into the mines, caved in without any hope of escape. It'd be weeks before they'd even inquire my fate... I was going to die. it was certainty. In a moment of pure fear, I used a scroll I had stolen from my slavemasters - Animutilav - and slashed my soul into pieces, hoping it'd allow me to endure. It was agonizing. It mutilated my body, my soul, my mind... I was transformed into the immortal being you see here now. My soul drifts in the planes of the living and the dead, giving me immense power over the dead and ether. Fueld by hatred, I have become one of the most powerful beings to ever exist! What was this? Quick question, should we move this into the quest-masters lounge? It seems more appropriate there. Quote
Endgame Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Animutilav was established in 48 - the spell that tore The Regret's soul to shreds, spreading his being across several planes - to the point where the other fragments of his soul rendered him literally incapable of dying, much to his despair. It is absolute agony, and he is lucky that he managed to survive it; most anyone would've died and been reduced to nothing. Only through sheer willpower did The Regret manage to tether a piece of soul to his body and endure.Being a Progg, a creature of the Lifespark, helped as well.... A human probably wouldn't have the capacity to survive it. Quote

Flipz Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Scuba, you do realize that that hide is suitable for Guts and is way better than any other form of SP he's ever going to get? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Guts is almost level 30. As soon as he hits level 30, he will go for a certain expert class, and won't be part barbarian anymore. Quote
Palathadric Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 OOC: I'm all up for fighting him! Come on guys, we are just a training montage away from killing him! Knowing Endgame, even if you defeat him he will just magically appear the next time around. Quote
Palathadric Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Repeated villains and allies are okay to me! It's only repeated Big Bads that I personally have a distaste for. Well, I have to say that there's almost nothing more frustrating than having to fight a big bad and then have him crop right up again. Especially when he acts like his defeat was all part of the plan. But maybe that's just me. For movies it may be fine...I don't know. I think a defeat such as the Regret experienced in 48 should also have some sort of more permanent mark on him or leave him a little more cautious or at least have some reaction. Now 48 was a while ago and it was so long that I think there is a lot that I missed, but if the Regret wanted to be defeated why didn't he make it hell of a lot easier for the heroes? I don't know if it's just me, but I tend to not favour "big bads" at all if they can be avoided. It's just a bit too much when so many quests seem to have a sort of "if you don't do this the world will be destroyed" kind of thing. It's fine for a boss quest to round up a storyline or something, but if it happens too often it becomes dry. I think that's why I liked 36 so much. Although the Death Progg seemed powerful, it more seemed like he was an overgrown pest who was troubling a woman's vault. He may have had visions of grandeur, but they didn't exactly seem realistic for him. Come to think of it, I liked 56 a fair bit as well. Great team there too. I guess I just prefer slightly "lighter" quests overall. I'm sure others have different feelings. Also, I don't particular care for "action" scenes happening outside of battle. Quote
JimBee Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 "The way you people are stumbling around I figured you weren't from around here. *Cough* You'd have to be a bit more specific, there are a lots of gangs in this city, friend. Grey Plague... It's curable, I can't afford a healer or doctor though... And I refuse to go to that bloody clinic. Let me guess, because the Salarian Lucostoid doctor has been picking off Batarians werewolves from his clinic? I kid, but seriously, 96 looks awesome so far. Very cool build for Strivvi, the atmosphere is great. Quote
Zepher Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) Yeah, Strivvi has such a good feel to it. It has an atmosphere. I think very few other places (outside Eubric) have been so well established feeling-wise, especially by one QM. The narrow streets, the poor, the politics, the species, the general rough-ness, the fact that it's between a bay and a desert... it's really very impressive, Scuba. And it's a BEAUTIFUL way to expand on Guts. It's not at all show stealing that he's from there. It's in fact in NO WAY show stealing that he came from there, and yet at the same time it informs us on SO MUCH about him. Edited February 13, 2014 by Zepher Quote
Scubacarrot Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks guys, it's very cool to hear such good things about the things you try to set up. More, more I say! Let me guess, because the Salarian Lucostoid doctor has been picking off Batarians werewolves from his clinic? Strivvi is the closest thing to Omega in Heroica. Quote
Endgame Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) I was quite concerned that bringing The Regret back would cheapen his defeat in 48, especially as he appeared as a mere cameo. I didn't want to undermine the hero's accomplishments - in the original drafts of Progg 0, before the Regret was even planned to be the final boss, (48's final showdown would've been the Mythrogg, originally - I altered it after Aquos was slain), 81 was going to feature The Regret rather lightly . It was originally going to be called "Lingering Soul", and that title is actually something of an easter egg in 81's tags. However, after I realized that The Regret pretty much fit the MO of my last arc, and I couldn't resist the irony of The Regret toying with the very magical artifact that created him (His only real parent), so he has made something of a comeback. Will he get his ultimate comeuppance? That rests on the heroes' shoulders. It's entirely possible, and if you can tough out the events of the finale... His appearance in 81 is something of just a continuation of his previous track record... I've designed my next two quests to show the other two sides of him, before he become the soulless monster he is today. 3000 years is a lot of time and a lot of change, and I plan to show the many faces of Prometheus "Regret". Zepher Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 The way I understand it - Strivvi has slightly different terminology. I'm guessing the Gray Plague is some "lesser version" of the Gray Plague from WBD's debut quest, and the distinction between werewolf and werejackal seems to be Strivvi only, as they are clearly treated both as werewolves in Eubric on a few occasions (though perhaps the werewolves in Eubric are really werejackals, which don't transform I'm guessing?). CMP Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I'm mostly joking. It's a fantasy RPG, nothing ever stays dead. Quote

It's actually totally not meant to be the same thing. I'll change it to something else. And the werewolves you mean in Eubric from his first quest were actually werehounds, weren't they? Zepher Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Oh, no, I met Lupine I met in my most recent one (91), who looks shockingly like this sick wolf. But we can just chalk it up to being one of the things that Heroicans just don't know. Maybe they are different races, maybe they aren't, maybe it's terminology, maybe Boomingham is confused. Any are acceptable excuses. Quote
