Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Quest 34. Alright, I'll give it a look. Anyone else have any others? Brickdoctor's/Scubacarrot's quests are good for great photography and interesting new battle mechanics. (Quests 4 & 23) Endgame's are great for final boss battles. (Quest 48) RumbleStrike and Kintober have some great intro quests that are easy to follow. (Quests 13 & 61) Zepher's are wonderful examples of long story archs and in depth character development (Quest 19) Sandy/CMP's are good for wonderful NPC's and interesting stories (Quests 14 & 51) For a list of Players and QM's who have a lot to offer in interacting with or learning from you can read through the 2013 fan awards, The Henrys Edited June 11, 2014 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Flipz Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'm looking for a quest that is a good example of a "typical" quest so that I can see what they are like (in every aspect, pretty much) and how they flow. Good dialogue would also be really good. Quest 38 is a good one, though it has a lot of backstory tied to it. 12, 16, and 18 are good ones if you're looking for true standalones. 27, 61, 65, and 68 are also fairly self-contained while still being easy to read. Have to say, though, even though it's super long, Quest 4 is probably the quintessential Quest to read in terms of what the overall feel of the world is like. Quote
Endgame Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Endgame's are great for final boss battles. (Quest 70)\ 70 actually had its boss battle avoided! (No other quests of mine have allowed it, though, unless you count 86 getting stomped.) If you want bosses, read Quest 48. Four multi-phase boss fights in one quest. Quote

Endgame Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 You would've gotten wrecked by Masson, anyway. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Brickdoctor's [...] quests are good for great photography and interesting new battle mechanics. (Quests 4 [...] ) Quest 17 and Quest 31 definitely have more interesting mechanics and eye candy than Quest 4 does. And Quest 31 actually has something of a more developed plot. (Thanks JimB and Zeph. ) Quote
Zepher Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Yeah, so it wasn't really a boss fight, it was rail-roading. There was no real choice to beat him. Quote
Endgame Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Yeah, so it wasn't really a boss fight, it was rail-roading. There was no real choice to beat him. Well, no, you could beat him if you strategized well enough. But you wouldn't. (In all seriousness, though, the boss would be far from impossible. I actually posted his battle stats way back when, if you want to see what you evaded.) Edited June 11, 2014 by Endgame Quote
Zepher Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I know we "had the option". It was only you who took the option away from me, it was Karie and Arthur too. I'm just teasing. Though I do personally believe that Masson has always been portrayed as "too good" since then. But I think that's just personal story telling taste. Which is a different conversation. Quote
Endgame Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I wouldn't really consider him to be evil ever, really. Mentally ill due to loneliness and prior trauma, but not evil. Quote
CMP Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I wouldn't really consider him to be evil ever, really. Mentally ill due to loneliness and prior trauma, but not evil. You could make the same argument in Arthur for Quest 53. Still probably for the best if taken out. Quote
Kintobor Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I know we "had the option". It was only you who took the option away from me, it was Karie and Arthur too. I'm just teasing. Silly Zepher. You can't stop the power of love. And monologuing. Quote
Actaeon Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Alright, I'll give these a read too. Thanks for the detailed reply! 58 has joined the list Thanks, this link will be very useful! Thanks everyone for all the input! Edited June 11, 2014 by Actaeon Quote
Actaeon Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Alright, finished reading quest #34. That was pretty interesting! I'm getting a feel for this game now. I'm glad I decided to read through some Quote
Zepher Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) 42 is actually a pretty fantastic quest. It is, however, not one I'd recommend to a starting player. Both that quest and Badger Badger Badger stand out for incredibly distinct styles and voices, and I love both of them, but they don't gel with the rest of the quests and world as well. It's not a bad thing, but it's not a great way to get introduced to the world. That being said, I don't think more stylistically different and adventurous quests couldn't be seen. I do wish, personally, there were more whimsical fantasy. The market of 42, the tree with the dirt... those are beautiful and more "fairy tale" esque than a lot of the "gritty fantasy" we get in this game. 57 was another beautiful example of it, so we know you're good at it. I think that you can examine a world from both of those lenses, and offering both will give a bigger picture of the world, so I'd love to see more of that. I don't have a flair for it myself, but it's certainly something you're good at, and I hope you do indeed get around to hosting more soon! EDIT: I think that the quest I have linked to by far the most in 102 is the quest that I am least proud of. Such is life. Edited June 11, 2014 by Zepher Quote
Palathadric Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 No love for #42? To be fair, I didn't recommend any quest that I had played a part on. I know that Pretzel would just sweep any newcomer off his feet. Quote
Flipz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Decided to re-read 68 for the fun of it. That final battle was hilarious. Wait, I can revive people like that? I meant to use a Phoenix Essence. LordoftheNoobs Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Wait, why did Atramor have lots of rats? Now if he had lots of crabs, that would've been funny. Quote

Flipz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Special. megablocking. Mirror. It's sad, it doesn't seem to be getting nearly as much action now that Karie's the only Witch in Heroica. That moment (turned argument) when she nearly instakilled Endgame's boss was the last moment I can recall in which it's had any major impact (or was it Atramor flying in Q75? I've been working out the in-game timeline so much I can't keep the real-world chronology straight anymore. ). Quote
Zepher Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I was a little sad when Atramor gave Special Mirror up. I'll never be able to hate him in quite the same way I used to. Broke, what, only two final battles? And I am VERY excited for all the slapstick buddy-buddy comedy I assume is right around the corner in 98. Quote
