Sandy Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Anyway, that's my log two-cents. Change the status quo to renew the sense of exploration/finding the world, and in doing so we'll force all QMs to take their stories on a minor left turn and maybe go with their second idea instead of their first, and if there's anything the world of art creation (and I do consider designing quests art - it's story telling, after all) has taught me, it's that revision is what makes something good. I think you're somewhat astray in that there'd be a certain status quo I wanted to uphold for the entirety of the game. There has already been twists to the main storylines, and there's going to many more. It's just that introducing each house and all the important people took a lot of time, and I'm only getting to the point where I have all the pieces on the board, so the shuffling can begin. I get your point that you'd like other QM's to be able to affect the main storyline as well. The thing is, I've never denied it. I just want to know about it beforehand, and if the suggested twist horribly screws up my plans, I will reject it. You have to realize that when you're weaving a storyline of this scale, you don't want to be surprised. For the record, Nemo Bonaparte had a huge chance of dying in Quest#58, but the party decided otherwise. You would've gotten your "slightly different Eubric" back then if they had chosen to side with Reno. Another example, Nuitan and Lyren had a chance of dying both in #43 and #93, had the party failed to save them. So if you want to feature one of the major NPCs and risk his or her life, just ask. Who knows, I might condone. Quote
Zepher Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I know! I'm again not leveling it as a attack against you in any way what-so-ever, I think you do a wonderful job of managing the game! I don't think, either, that you're TRYING to uphold the Status Quo, and I furthermore don't think that it should have changed before now! I'm suggesting that NOW would be the time to start thinking about it - and it appears you are! And I know you don't want to be surprised - that's why I'm suggesting that maybe you should be. It will force creativity you didn't even know you had, because now you don't get your first choice as an option (necessity is the mother of invention and all that) - it's a question of trusting the other QMs to not drop nukes on the game, just throw you, as I said, a curve ball. But again, I don't think you're doing anything wrong even a little. I was just throwing out ideas for the future, not critiquing the past. Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Congrats on becoming a fellow Zepher ! Or have you always been one and I've just never noticed ? Also, I'm hosting my first quest! Quote
Kintobor Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Just wondering, what's everyone's favourite character out of Heroica? I mean from films, books, videogames, etc. In terms of a character not in Heroica? Oh jeez, there's a lot... Pinkie Pie surprisingly ranks high for how thought out her character is. A character who's life literally involves making people happy, despite potentially suffering from depression. Demona from Gargoyles is another favourite. Edmund Blackadder's another favourite. We could be here all day if keep talking, honestly. Storytelling and analysis is my thing. Edited July 4, 2014 by Kintobor Quote

K-Nut Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 We could be here all day if keep talking, honestly. Storytelling and analysis is my thing. I'm the same way. I try to incorporate the elements of lots of my favorite characters into this game, too. I absolutely adore Angel and Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Both of them have done some very terrible things in their lives, and try to manage it all in very different ways whilst being good people, leading to so many amazing stories. I also love Ray (Colin Farrell) from the film In Bruges and Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) from Casablanca. Quote
Sandy Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 it's a question of trusting the other QMs to not drop nukes on the game, just throw you, as I said, a curve ball. I unfortunately do not have the luxury of trusting others with major decisions for the main storyline without me knowing about it. I know it might be the more creative option, but I do not want to have to go through all this planning and preparing just to see it washed down the drain just because someone else decided to make the proggs the new rulers of Eubric out of a sudden. Endgame Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) to make the proggs the new rulers of Eubric out of a sudden. Hey, I would never do that! (Olegaia, on the other hand...) Edited July 4, 2014 by Endgame Quote

So just wait until the main storyline is finished, you don't have anything planned after that do you? My grandfather had similar experiences with his two cats. They'd always curl up on his arms whenever he typed. To tell the truth I have no idea how he managed to make the accent over the o. Quote

I would consider that a nuke more than a curveball. That's exactly what I'm saying - it would require the trust in us to not do that. It boils down to the chief rule of improv really (good for RP too): you want to make the other person of stage look like the best person on stage. What it means is that everything you do should help the person, never hurt them, and ripping the rug out from under them would hurt them. It is absolutely an unique position you're in, too! If I had a beloved NPC and someone contacted me with an idea to murder them, I'd sure have reservations. So it's just something to chew on as opposed to something to implement in full. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 erlō That was written by a cat walking across my keyboard, and I like it. "A cat managed to type a diacritic" is hardly reason to make a completely unrelated post. It has nothing to do with Heroica RPG. This topic may sometimes be a little more lenient in terms of the fun, off-topic sorts of conversations, but that does not mean that you should randomly post a nonsensical string of characters. Quote

I am familiar with the rules of improv, being something of an amateur actor myself, but in this case the other QMs might not be aware of what exactly would hurt my storyline and what wouldn't. Besides, the whole world is your stage in this game! Why should everyone have to be so involved in creating the goings-on of Eubric, anyway? Quote

Flipz Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 The only nice thing I can recall them doing is building a shelter... And technically I did that. I was referring more to the accusation they made that Heroica was more interested in the goings-on of the outside world than in fixing things back home in Eubric, but that's another good point you bring up (that's been brought up a zillion times before, but is good to remember especially considering this is a discussion of what we need to do to revitalize the RPG moving forward). It's funny, your bad villains and the Wolfgang share the exact same weakness; they even have that one sole exception (Aquos and Kayla) who were promptly killed off in short order. Quote
Endgame Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Aquos came back as a ghost, though, and defeated The Regret with the power of Rock n' Roll!! (Also, shame, no one seems to have picked up the Wham Line from 99.) Edited July 4, 2014 by Endgame Quote

Palathadric Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 So, anyone want to host a quest? I do. I really do. It's just the set-making that's the problem for me. My computer crashed for a while and I just built a new one and set it up. I haven't yet installed the LDraw programmes, though. Digital building is just not the same as building with actual bricks though. Maybe I should make my sets simpler. Quote
Cutcobra Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 So, anyone want to host a quest? I would host that one quest that has yet to be posted, but I can't find the time to finish the last two sets. Quote
