Duvors Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'm going throwing weapons, all the way. Thank you all for your posts - I've learned a lot. Good, original (or at least underused) ideas are the best. Quote
Zepher Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 One of my ideas for a 2nd PC (which I am hoping we get to use soon... Sandy! ) will use exclusively throwing weapons as well. It seems dope. But you should test the waters for me first, Lind. Quote
StickFig Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 P.S. - @Flipz is the best min-maxer (munchkin) around - if he's advocating something, do it. I feel so vindicated right now. In any case, this discussion almost makes me wish that I'd started Matthias with thrown weapons, if only for the interest value. Good, original (or at least underused) ideas are the best. And this, everyone, is the most important thing. Quote
CMP Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Just seems inconvenient to be completely disarmed for any length of time. Then again, unarmed attacks are a thing now. One of my ideas for a 2nd PC (which I am hoping we get to use soon... Sandy! ) I personally suspect it's being saved for the third anniversary. Would be a hell of a way to celebrate it. Quote

Lind Whisperer Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Another question - what should I spend my first ten gold on? I was planning, after some thought, to buy two Venoms. If I'm not going to be receiving Free Hits, my health is not as much of a concern if I'm in the back row, so Potions might not be as optimal a purchase until I'm slightly more skilled. With Venoms, I can boost my effectiveness a bit, even if I don't get a good roll every time. A bedroll is also of course a good purchase, but I'm trying to max my effectiveness to the party as a whole, and if my whole health is only 7/7, I'm not sure that a bedroll would be the best first purchase... Quote
CMP Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Venom won't be as effective with a throwing weapon. Now that it stacks dealing two consecutive back row melee hits to an enemy would be more effective than a single throwing weapon attack. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Bedrolls are handy in the absence of a cleric, potions can be useful if you need a sure heal in the middle of a battle. You can still take damage from a bad roll, so free hits aren't the only thing you'll need to worry about. As Pie said venom on a throwing weapon isn't as handy as on a melee weapon, but I wouldn't discount it completely. Quote
Flipz Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Yeah, this time I'm with Pie and WBD--a good venom build is either a melee build or a Ranger build. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Maybe I should buy a Potion and a Bedroll instead, then? Edited July 14, 2014 by Lind Whisperer Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Or just save it for later, never know when a bribe or other service might come in handy. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Or just save it for later, never know when a bribe or other service might come in handy. I had thought of that also when I first starting thinking about this, I just thought that keeping myself alive/doing more damage would be more helpful to the group as a whole than the chance that I'd need to bribe someone/etc. Edited July 14, 2014 by Lind Whisperer Quote
Sandy Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Maybe I should buy a Potion and a Bedroll instead, then? Welcome to the game on my behalf as well, Lind Whisperer! Checking your stats, you seem to have missed the fact that everyone starts with one Potion in their inventory, as well as the class-specific item. So feel free to add it now. Quote

If you're more into the roleplaying aspect, what would your character choose? Would he be a miser and hoard his gold? Would he be a survivalist and always have a potion at hand to keep him going? Would he be the sort who is ready for anything and always carries a bedroll? Would he be a paranoid nut case and always want a vial of venom handy for his enemies? Really the choice comes down to you, remember there really isn't a wrong choice, most "mistakes" are easily fixed after your first quest anyways. Edited July 14, 2014 by Waterbrick Down Quote

Really the choice comes down to you, remember there really isn't a wrong choice, most "mistakes" are easily fixed after your first quest anyways. Hmm... I was originally intending for the character I developed into Lind to be more of a miser type, but the more I imagined the Munchkins, the more I dropped that idea. Munchkins do see the purpose and necessity of money, however they view it as more as a means to an end, rather than the end itself. The "End" in their view, doesn't really have a description, other than "Life". They don't tend to hoard their funds, instead preferring to use gold for covering the very basic essentials of life, and then using everything that's left to help others around them. With that in mind, I should probably I should go with a second Potion and a Bedroll, then. Edited July 14, 2014 by Lind Whisperer Quote

Flipz Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 She really is just another party member. Also... (YouTube) Yes, that's the idea. In battle, she behaves exactly as any other player character would, which means sometimes she's going to make selfish calls or suggest choices that are best for her rather than the ones she's told. It's the Zepher style of NPC, particularly in the vein of Phil (whom I'd suggest my Questees should read up on to get a better idea of what I mean). As for that last bit...blame Quest 4. These enemies are all blatantly stolen and modified. Quote

In character, I would, but I wasn't sure how that would tie in with dynamics, as she is an NPC. Edited July 15, 2014 by Actaeon Quote
