Excellent point. That's why I'm suggesting that we set up an official team of people to do it, on a regular basis. Once the original over haul is complete, then it shouldn't require very much work to maintain it, especially if we assign one person to each role.

You'd be surprised how many quests pile up.

And only one person can edit topics.

If QMs took the initiative I'd be happy to get the Treasury back up to speed. Everyone needs to clear their new items with Sandy anyway, so if I just got a PM with that last after the end of each quest...

And only one person can edit topics.

True, but we could start a thread for the project, and the editor could edit our posts in. Of course, that probably might be asking too much of one person, though.

Also, I would like to remind everyone again that most of the arguments against updating rather than a wiki, apply also to a wiki. Maintaining a wiki will require just as much work, and more, than updating. We'd have to moderate against trolls(and if you type a wiki, they will come!), continually checking* hundreds, quite likely thousands of individual pages for accuracy*, and dealing with a huge in-rush of people who "thought it looked cool**".

*Granted, accuracy problems could happen with my idea as well, but I really don't think that anyone here would post something inaccurate, at least not intentionally - whereas with a wiki, we'll literally be having people making up miles of continuity, and then t6opynfg iut uip lliekd thjis!!1!!!11.

**I know that we are a welcoming community here, and new members are always welcome - I received a hearty welcome when I joined, and I would not want to do anything to stop that. But when I'm talking in-rush, I don't mean "new players", I'm referring to spammers, especially in the 13- range. Of course, there will probably also be mature, 13- new players who find the game as well - but if we start a wiki, we're opening the flood gates to the other crowd - and there's a whole lot more of them, then there will be of those who are mature.

If we just need someone to help catalogue/receive/organize information, I can do that pretty well. I've got enough free time on my hands that it wouldn't be a big deal. I'd also like to start contributing more to Heroica, and if that's a good way to do so, then I'd be glad to help with it.

A wiki wouldn't affect the need for the Library, though. Additionally, the way the forum software works, only one person can manage a topic, because only they can edit their own posts. (Well, moderators too, but they already have a LOT of duties, they don't need any more. )

I'd be willing to manage a wiki, the only potential issue is actually the logo/use of the Heroica name (I'm not sure if Wikia violates the LEGO fair play guidelines, and I'm even less sure about other common wiki hosts).

As long as you use just the Heroica logo but not the LEGO logo, you don't use the string 'lego' in the URL, you don't make it seem like you own any of the trademarks, and you include a disclaimer somewhere, you're fine. TLG also doesn't mind if you use their copyrighted materials as long as you properly credit them.

The LEGO Logo may not be used on an Unofficial Web Site

The bright red LEGO logo has become one of the most recognized trademarks in the world. We have worked hard to make this logo a symbol of high quality creative products for children. The logo stands for the LEGO Group and we cannot risk allowing the distinctiveness of this symbol to be diluted. We must, therefore, insist that the LEGO logo NEVER be used on an unofficial web site.

The LEGO Trademarks may be used under certain Limited Circumstances on an Unofficial Web Site

The LEGO trademarks (but not the logo) may be used in a non-commercial manner to refer to LEGO products or elements which are shown or discussed on a web site, as long as the trademark is not unduly emphasized or used in a way that can lead an observer to mistakenly believe that the site is sponsored or authorized by the LEGO Group.

Proper Use of the LEGO Trademark on a Web Site

If the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs".Also, the trademark should appear in the same typeface as the surrounding text and should not be isolated or set apart from the surrounding text. In other words, the trademarks should not be emphasized or highlighted. Finally, the LEGO trademark should always appear with a ® symbol each time it is used.

The LEGO Trademark cannot be used in an Internet Address

The LEGO trademark should not be incorporated into an Internet address. Internet addresses have become useful tools for people to identify the source of a homepage. Using "LEGO" in the domain name would be creating the misleading impression that the LEGO Group sponsored the homepage.

Use a Disclaimer

A disclaimer should be used when the LEGO trademark appears on a Web page. An appropriate disclaimer would be "LEGO®is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this site". However, a disclaimer will not serve to undo an improper trademark use. Therefore, use of the LEGO logo or improper use of the LEGO trademark cannot be made proper by including a disclaimer.

Scanning Of Copyrighted Materials Into A Web Site

The LEGO Group owns the copyrights to its building instructions, publications and to the photographs used in our catalogs and on our packages. Copying, scanning and distributing these materials on the Internet would be an infringement of our copyrights. Nevertheless, at the present time the LEGO Group does not object to scanning of limited extracts of these materials in unaltered form for non-commercial purposes of exchange of information or good faith commentary. However, scanned /images/info should not be given such prominence as to indicate sponsorship of the Web site by the LEGO Group. We would ask that the photographs be scanned without distortion or overemphasis of the LEGO logo. A disclaimer and notice must appear indicating that the copyrights are owned by the LEGO Group (e.g. LEGO Group. This is an independent site not authorized or sponsored by the LEGO Group).

Lind, you underestimate my obsession. There's also the factor of many of our members doing a little to help rather than a few having to do a lot.

Thanks, Doc, I'll get a wiki started this evening.

Best of luck, then. I'd offer to help with the management of the wiki, regardless of my personal qualms, but I really can't afford to get invested into another wiki again - as it is, I'm starting to devote too much of my time to refreshing the browser for quest updates...

Are you going to use a Wikia-website? Because I'm registered there.

I wonder if there's a way to limit editing of a wiki to registered users only. Most of the trouble Lind is referring to comes from anonymous editors...

Wiki exists! Though there's literally just the main page at the moment. Next step: infoboxes and other templates, along with basic articles (i.e. Heroica, Heroes, Eubric, Uland, the Free Islands, Olegaia, the Veterans, etc.).

EDIT: Gah! Meant to edit that into my previous post.

In my spare moments, I've been playing around with an idea for a Space sci-fi RPG in the Heroica style. I've been trying to come up with generic roles, but it's surprisingly hard, since there aren't really that many different roles in space opera, when you come down to it...

Scoundrel.

Sheriff(SPI/III/individual system or planet).

Space Marine.

Engineer.

Corporate Mook(this one is more of a gag idea...Although it could work...).

Pilot(although I'm not exactly sure what abilities you'd give a pilot that didn't require a ship...).

Something that would be cool to see, is individual pages for each played character in the game. Of course, everyone would have to do their own, but it would show their various stats, background, story, etc.

I could probably handle adding many of the items, someone might want to make a generic page to link to all of the individual item pages though. Getting the basic consumables up now.

Awesome! Transit is done, so I will get to work transferring over the NPC index, and I'm back in the saddle for 102!

Actually working on a page right now that will help you with that.

Also, a note to everyone: One of the best things we can do is to create and fill out redlinks. When I'm writing articles, I tend to just put in links to things that should be linked even if the page doesn't yet exist (through either the [[basic link]] wikitext or the [[text to display here|actual link]] wikitext). Click on those and fill them out--it's one click, and even a little bit helps a lot in propagating the Wiki Magic.

Another thing that helps: adding Categories to pages. I've gone ahead and defined several categories already, but this way instead of having to make lists that have to constantly be updated, we just apply a Category (such as "NPCs" or "Factions" or "Locations") and it'll auto-update the Category page for easy reference.

I will reply to Karie soon, but I've got to run now and I'm not sure how shortly I'll be able to talk. Slaying demons is a favourite for Pretzel so it may drag. If I explain it quickly, it will take more time to think of what to say, so either way I won't have time right away.
