Endgame Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I absolutely agree. Before everyone was complaining it was too hard, now everyone is complaining about it having been too easy. Just sounds like complaining at that point. I've never had any issue with the possibility/impossibility of the odds, I just don't like seeing that Lucky Die snapshot or any of the equivalents. I consider them worse than healing staves. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Basically they are a moneysaver. (gold cost of a nostrum per battle + any turns and gold cost for extra applications due to effect removal or KOs) Lucky dice, I don't think they are really a big deal. Back in Quest 6 they were, maybe. Also, I think Zakura outplayed the house, there. Edited July 29, 2014 by Scubacarrot Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I wouldn't change a thing at this point. Mizuki played the game and won. I absolutely agree. Before everyone was complaining it was too hard, now everyone is complaining about it having been too easy. Just sounds like complaining at that point. I never said it should be changed now; I'm saying that the fact that zakura won is further reason that this shouldn't have been done in the first place and shouldn't be done in the future.I never complained that this particular game was too hard; I was complaining because a QM shouldn't tease players with valuable artifacts that are intended to be impossible to win. I didn't want anybody to win; I didn't think that the odds should be made changed to be more favorable — I didn't think the minigame should've been included in the first place. Quote

Flipz Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 My point was, if you're going to include something, include it, but if you're not, don't; teasing players with a ludicrous challenge is just mean. I guess it didn't come out that way, though. ...and that's another excellent reason why you should never tease players with ridiculously good items at nigh-impossible chances, because it addition to being unsportsmanlike, it can backfire and now you've dropped an item that wasn't ever supposed to be dropped again. As usual, Doc is better with his words than I am. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Just speaking as a Munchkin here, although the chances of actually winning a Lucky Die are very small at best, I personally think that it adds another layer to the game. I remember dreaming of getting a Mosaic Jester Hat as a drop in a MMO I formerly played, and although the chances were small(1% from the absolutely toughest enemies, in a "last kill wins loot" scenario), I never gave up, and just the imagining of owning such a rare object was fun on its own*. *Even more fun when I actually got one. UsernameMDM Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I consider them worse than healing staves. Speaking of which, Hoke really needs one of those. Mystic Knight Spellspin Blade + Healing Staff = UNSTOPPABLE! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Did I quote you? Maybe, just maybe, my post wasn't directed at you. Fair enough. Your post was right after mine and you didn't quote anybody, so I wanted to clarify my position. Quote
Endgame Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Speaking of which, Hoke really needs one of those. Mystic Knight Spellspin Blade + Healing Staff = UNSTOPPABLE! I'm going to run away and hide now. Quote
Flipz Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Actually, Battle Mages do more with Healing Staves than Mystic Knights--MKs just heal the allied party, while Battle Mages heal the party AND deal elemental damage to all enemies. Quote
JimBee Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I have to agree with Doc on this one, but I guess it's too late now. Funny how the player who complains the most about OPness is one of the most OP. Mizuki also has that Foxtail... Not by much fault of his own, but that just adds to the irony. Quote
Flipz Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Skrall stared into empty space watching his smoke rings play among the rafters, "Satisfaction, little one, satisfaction." Today the role of "Skrall" is brought to you by Jeff Bridges The Dude. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Today the role of "Skrall" is brought to you by Jeff Bridges The Dude. I haven't even seen that movie. But it does create quite the mental picture. Edited July 30, 2014 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Flipz Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I haven't even seen that movie. Neither have I, but I'm familiar with most of the . Or just watch Tron: Legacy, he plays basically the same character there. Quote
Zepher Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Or, you know, watch the movie because it's golden. Quote
CMP Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 "Sorry, that was rude, I'm really a traveling empty wine bottle salesman. See, I drink the wine while I wander around, to ready the product and all, and then I sell it so I can buy another glass of wine. Lucrative business." I want to see this guy teach economics. Quote
Zepher Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I am really going for the most NPC award for 102. Got to keep them fresh! I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but it's very hard to have a "petty crime" or "thug" character return because generally the heroes murder the hell out of them. Only big bosses live between quests. Petty thieves are very hard to reuse. Can anyone think of anyone except Bors who has minority robbed a house and lived (and now Bors is dead as well)? Quote
Endgame Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 They never robbed the houses, but the druggies from 86 persevered. Quote
Kintobor Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Zepher, you cut one of said petty thief's hands off. Lupine the Third is still out there, I just haven't thought of a place to use him, although he is missing a hand. Quote

Lupine the Third is still out there, I just haven't thought of a place to use him, although he is missing a hand. I don't think it was a hand. I distinctly remember someone getting disarmed. I also feel like an idiot now because I thought he was the guy everyone's going after in Quest 103. A handful of Wolfgangers from Quest 69 are still around. Quote
Zepher Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 They never robbed the houses, but the druggies from 86 persevered. The ones from 83 are the ones I actually thought of too! They were just arrested. And you're right, CMP, the 69ers are still alive and out there - I liked those guys! They were the first semi-likable face we got on the Wolfgang. I'm just saying, overall a lot of people get murdered over what are sometimes pretty small crimes, while the heroes have run into the Regret lots - he kills cities, and he keeps getting away. Quote
Endgame Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I said 86, Zepher, not 83. Although it is technically true too. Quote
Zepher Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Sorry, I meant the "too" in that they were also druggies. Quote
Endgame Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) And now that CallMePie pointed it out, the final combatants of 70 were arrested as well, not murdered. Shocking, considering Boomingham's temperment at the time. Edited July 30, 2014 by Endgame Quote
swils Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I absolutely agree. Before everyone was complaining it was too hard, now everyone is complaining about it having been too easy. Just sounds like complaining at that point. I hate this generalization. I see it everywhere. It is so very rarely the same parties that argue both sides of the coin in situations like this (and when it is, it's because they're trolling, heh). Who, between the winning roll and your post, complained about it being too easy? I see some congratulations/"uh oh another permalucky"/joking-about-nerfing-rogues posts, but only two stick out to me as "complaining", Doc and Flipz. Flipz simply restated what he originally put forth: he didn't think the game was winnable within reason. Doc restated that he disagreed with the item being reintroduced at all. There's no complaining about making it too easy. At worst, it's just complaining about the reintroduction of the artifact, no matter how stacked the odds were against it. And I think that's a valid complaint, given all the countless discussions we've all had on the subject over the years, regardless of the fact that Sandy approved it with restrictions and that it was acquired within those restrictions. Personal opinion here: This is just another example of why B&P quests are a min-max'ers dream. For years, I've seen this. I've never had any interest in his quests for their story or their sets, but that loot, drool. I swear, it seems like every quest he hosts, there is at least one hot-topic item dropped/made available. Other quests have 'em sometimes, sure, but for the same host to repeatedly have something crop up that raises debate? If you want loot that straddles a very fine line, go on B&P quests. Quote
