Brickdoctor Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Yeah, what was up with that outage? Didn't see anything on the front page that would draw enough traffic to cause it. For five hours, too. When was the last time we had one like that? Around the last major upgrade? Quote
Flipz Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Flipz I really want to see how your character interacts with others on quest 110 if he's picked. You mean Zepher, right? My character is on 103. For five hours, too. When was the last time we had one like that? Around the last major upgrade? I was actually worried that's what was happening--that we were having another upgrade, and everything from the last two weeks would vanish again. Quote
KotZ Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 You mean Zepher, right? My character is on 103. Doh I meant Zepher. I had you on my mind because I had 104 open in another tab as well. Zepher, I really want to see how your character interacts with others on quest 110 if he's picked. Quote
Zepher Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 WBD, I love the sets for Dreamscape! It's always interesting to see what the sets add to a quest, and I can't help feeling like Em is sort of "apprenticing" under you as a QM upon seeing the sets (and the first battle too), but I think I may just be seeing what I want to see. Quote
Emjajoas Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Apprentice is probably a good work for it. He's been giving me really good advice, and helping me a lot along the way. Plus, his sets are awesome. Really hope I do them justice. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I know these aren't too high Level enemies, but still, MegaBlok these Passive Specials. Quote
Emjajoas Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Are they bad-good or bad-bad? If they're too rough, I'll tone them down, but... Quote
Zepher Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 No re-balancing mid-battle! See what happens. But yeah, it just feels sort of WBDy, which is awesome because I love his quests. And I'm sure you'll bring your own sensibility to it too. It's awesome to see new people host after 3 years of the game (Kinto and I were talking about this behind the scenes recently) because they pul what they like from the past, and bring their own perspectives as well. It's like any canon (movies, literature, music, etc.) but we get to view it in a microcosmic form. Quote
Flipz Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Are they bad-good or bad-bad? If they're too rough, I'll tone them down, but... They nerf his ability to do Things. That Rogue enemy is a really smart way to handle a level gap from a meta perspective--the experienced Heroes have more cash, so they can't touch the Rogue for fear of his Special. The passives seem a little weird, but that's just because they're very obviously game-y (i.e. done for the sake of numbers and mechanics) and not necessarily woven into the nature of the enemy--though that's definitely not a bad thing. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 No no no, I'm not seriously complaining about them; just commenting on how they're all conspiring against me. I think the answer from your provided choices is "Bad-Good." Quote

It's like any canon (movies, literature, music, etc.) but we get to view it in a microcosmic form. I won't be changing it mid-battle; it's more for the rest of the Quest. This first battle is a test, the rest are going to be changed or balanced based on it. I tried to tie the passives into the characters a little bit with the names (even though they do the same thing). The rogue fights "dirty," so when he's not acting too "cocky" to take something seriously, he's a lot stronger. It's not the best, but it's the best solution I could come up with. Also based on the level gap, I wanted to focus more on the mechanics in the battle instead of the characters and story behind the enemy. I've got a few things coming that'll hopefully give them more trouble than what they've got right now while still not being too frustrating an experience. No no no, I'm not seriously complaining about them; just commenting on how they're all conspiring against me. I think the answer from your provided choices is "Bad-Good." The entire quest is conspired against you. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 The entire quest is conspired against you. This must be my punishment for going through the Fields three times. Quote
Flipz Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 This must be my punishment for going through the Fields three times. No, believe me, that's still coming. Quote
CMP Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 No, believe me, that's still coming. Yeah, this whole 'reinnovation' shtick in the Fields is really just the QMs deciding how many enemies ignore defense. Quote

Awww, c'mon, that's the only source of significant income for builds such as mine. It was Quarry's fault; blame Quarry! Quote

StickFig Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 ...I was Doomed for one round, but that got Remedied. The enemy party was not as fortunate. Nice. Quote
Palathadric Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 After I dumped all that money into the Dual-Staff! Quote
JimBee Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Chromeknight, I didn't know that ether implied life. Is that actually the history of the word? I've never really thought about why we use it or where it's from. I still don't think that it should function that way, but simply because I do think of lore reasons it wouldn't make sense. Though the idea for an ether reducing item is a cool one - maybe I'll see if I can't get that to you at some point in the quest. You guys are, on a side note, over half-way at this point... but still have quite a while to go. This is sort of unrelated to the game, but I've also wondered why Heroica and other RPGs/fantasy works have called the source from which magical power is derived "ether" (others call it "mana"). A quick search got me this: - Ether (besides being one of the fundamental organic compunds that we all learned in high school chemistry) was first thought to be the element of outer space or the sky, both as a classical element and a part of Greek mythology. - It was also thought to be a "fifth element" in ancient times, in addition to the classic earth, wind, water, and fire elements. - In 19th century physics: the substance through which light propagates. - "Ethernet" comes from the medium of propagation of electromagnetic waves. Basically, from these uses ether is an omnipresent force, and in fantasy works, is the medium through which magic can propagate. Just thought that was interesting, and others who were interested in the lore of this game and others who also might have found it interesting. Quote
Flipz Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 The heck is up with this. Five SHIELDs in a Round?! (Granted, there was a bunch of other rolls in between for things like "which element is picked" and Diana's Lucky and Assassination rolls, but still! I call hax! ) (RE: Latest round of 104) Quote

Duvors Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Okay, I'm back for a little, but I'll have to warn you that my updates will be sporadic for about a week. Quote
Endgame Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I hope this bit makes the whole segment before the dauntlet battle in 99 make more sense, contextually. Quote
