samurai-turtle Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I've got at least three chains of PMs, but they're interspersed chronologically, which is going to make posting them a pain. There's some really nice stuff in there, though (including some great character moments and the introduction of a couple characters people have been waiting on for a while!), so it's all worth it. Couldn't you just "copy and paste" the stuff? And while I am at it I wonder what would happen if I got in a fight with "it"? Quote
Flipz Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Couldn't you just "copy and paste" the stuff? And while I am at it I wonder what would happen if I got in a fight with "it"? You would probably get transferred to Sandy because I don't have that character's stats. (And you'd miss out on the current boss battle.) Copy-pasting is ultimately how I'll have to do it, the tricky part is making sure everything is in chronological order. Quote
Sandy Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 What did everyone think of the Decamon Battle in Quest#100? Did it seem like fun? Was it something you'd like to see more in the future? Quote
Endgame Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) If I had one suggestion, it'd be that both opponent's entire deck is laid out at the very beginning of the match. That way, both participants know what they're in for, and can pick their 5 cards accordingly. Edited August 22, 2014 by Endgame Quote
Flipz Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I DEFINITELY want to see more Decamon in the future, but perhaps not limited to Quests the way it has been in Q100. I'd like to see Decamon "starter" decks and maybe even "booster packs" available in the Marketplace, with players being able to play each other (and perhaps a few NPCs?) freely. (Perhaps the cards could be sold only by a travelling merchant like Elphaba, except it's who turns up more often? Permanent availability (and totally set card availability) seems like it would get stale fast, but twice a year is definitely not often enough for something like this.) Maybe each month of the year would offer a different "starter" deck (with the same set numbers but different distribution of elements), while the booster options would be a choice between completely randomized or an occasional elementally-themed booster (the element of which is randomly decided when it becomes available). If I had one suggestion, it'd be that both opponent's entire deck is laid out at the very beginning of the match. That way, both participants know what they're in for, and can pick their 5 cards accordingly. Agreed, especially since that's how it'd be for PvP as well anyway. Quote

I may use it in an upcoming quest, I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking of having a Decamon expansion series to go along with it. Quote

Endgame Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Also, if everyone could excuse me, I need to gorge on Lay's Cinnamon Bun potato chips. This post confuses me, not only because it lacks context, but also because such a flavor does indeed exist. Also, alternate mode of Decamon: In addition to having the decks shown at the beginning, the players each choose 5 cards in advance, and play them in order - a Decamon quick round, perhaps? Quote
Kintobor Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 This post confuses me, not only because it lacks context, but also because such a flavor does indeed exist. It's a Canadian thing I think. We also have limited runs of Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, Bacon Poutine, and Tzatziki! Considering who I play and what quest I'm currently on, what do you think this is referring to? Quote

Endgame Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 It's not. I found Wasabi Ginger chips in my local store. What in the world are the Lay's CEOs smoking?? It's been a 2 year long flavor suggestion campaign. My favorite suggestions so far have been "Tin Foil and Batteries", "Orange and Toothpaste", and "Doritos." I may have to drop those as rations now. Kintobor Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Let's see if we can bring this discussion back to Heroica while still contemplating what the CEO's of Lay's are indeed smoking: what would a Heroica flavoured potato chip taste like? Quote

Sandy Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 If I had one suggestion, it'd be that both opponent's entire deck is laid out at the very beginning of the match. That way, both participants know what they're in for, and can pick their 5 cards accordingly. That's how the game works against other players, but the NPCs I have in the quest only have five cards to begin with, so showing their hand in advance would pretty much allow the player to win automatically. Of course the NPCs could have a larger deck in display, out of which they would choose five, like the players do... I don't know if anyone remembers it, because it was mentioned early in the quest, but each Decamon card can be exchanged for a prize, too. A seasonal salesman that both sells cards and trades them for items might be a good idea, so players could play the game by themselves in the Hall without the need of a host. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I support the idea of a Decamon deck outside of quests. I don't suppose that Munchkin Ethereal Deck cards could function as Decamon cards? They could easily be linked to elements... Quote
Flipz Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 My vision of how selling cards would work would be something like this: [image] "Hi, folks, my name is Professor Tree, and this is my assistant, Sootface Snagem! Welcome to the wonderful world of Decamon! We'll only be here for this week only, but don't worry--we'll be back next month with different Decamon delights!" CARDS FOR SALE Booster Pack (Series 1): Two random Decamon cards drawn from the Series 1 pool (Costs ?? gold) Bulk Booster Pack (Series 1): Ten random Decamon cards drawn from the Series 1 pool. One card is guaranteed to be rare. (Costs ??*5 gold) SPECIAL! Themed Fire-elemental booster pack: Three Firey-type Decamon cards, drawn from all existing Series. (Costs ??*2 gold) Starter Deck: October Try this spectrally spooky deck of Decamon cards, just in time for All Hallow's Eve! Contains the following six (6) Decamon cards: Will-O'-The-Wisp (Firey 1), Specter (Icy 2), Toxic Toad (Plant 1), Creeping Hands (Darkness 2), Vampire Bat (Flying 3), Scarab (Rock 1) *Images of cards* Cost: ??*2.5 gold -------------------------------------- Definitions: Rare: Any card of Power 6 or above, or any Ethereal card period, is considered "Rare" for purposes of the Bulk Booster Pack. (Obviously the Level 9 cards would only be available from challenging and defeating champions.) Series: Every year (along with the Anniversary), the series of cards available from the Marketplace would change; these new cards would be mechanically identical to the previous set but would feature different monsters, adding a collectible aspect to the game. (Again, the Level 9 cards would not be replaced.) Starter Deck: A deck of six (6) Decamon cards with the following number distribution: 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3. These cards can be of any elemental type other than Ethereal, and are usually themed. How does Professor Tree work? *Professor Tree is a Treant wearing glasses with cobwebs for "hair". He visits the Marketplace once a month, for one week at a time. *Professor Tree has a 1/2 chance of offering an elemental booster pack each time he visits. Any time Professor Tree isn't selling a themed booster pack, he'll instead sell a Level 5 card of a random type (drawn from all series) for twice the cost of a regular booster pack. *Each month, Professor Tree offers a different themed starter deck. For simplicity's sake, these would be set once and remain the same forever, even as the card series change from year to year. ------------------------- ...or instead of Sootface Snagem being Professor Tree's assistant, he could be the one taking the cards in exchange for prizes, in which case he'd show up slightly less often. Quote
Wedge09 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Then I propose a special event: a Decamon tournament between various NPCs and players. Prizes: rare Card, gold... Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Building on my last post, and borrowing the card names from my original description in the marketplace, here's a proposition as to what Munchkin cards(using my own deck as an example) would look like translated into Decamon cards: Munchkin card - Elemental Value Spring of the Emotion of Good - Plant, 3 Spring of the Emotion of Night - Plant, 2 Lady of the Lake of Fortune - Aquatic, 2 Coat of the Night Tiger - Dark, 3 The Red Woman - Fiery, 2 Spring of the Emotion of Evil - Dark, 3 Spring of the Emotion of Day - Luminous, 2 Arcane Strategata of the Oiled Pool - Dark, 2 Coat of the Day Stalker - Luminous, 3 The Light Woman - Luminous, 2 (I wasn't sure what would be considered fair stats, so I tried to stick to "starter kit" values.) Lind Whisperer Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Those don't really seem like they fit the flavor of the original cards, though. I know. It's kind of hard to describe Munchkin cards without Munchkin terms. Munchkins take comfort in nighttime, and view it as "good", and they see day as being "evil". It's kind of complicated. When each element is taken into (Munchkin) context, though, they do align up, more or less. Edited August 22, 2014 by Lind Whisperer Quote
