Khorne Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 The enemy you're fighting is lucky. So you get the worse of the two rolls. A-ha! That's what I was missing. I was so busy scanning my own effects and actions, I looked over the fact that the Golem was lucky. Thanks for pointing out! Quote
Flipz Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 It's really not a QM's place to assume the players just follow the easiest path you've thought up for them. Particularly when they already have a course of action in place. In this case, it's more akin to Doc ending hex battles early when we pit crossbows against the last remaining melee units; rather than waste time whittling down the enemy's HP, he just calls it. I suppose I could run one last Round if the players want, but either way they have won the fight--either they let Denerii Fly her to death, or they follow Siercon's plan to hit-n-heal from the Back Row until they roll a 6. Zepher Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I end battles early on occasion too for the same reason. It may be the difference of one bit of ether or two, but really what's more entertaining? Quote
Endgame Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Well, Khorne, that was a bombshell and a half you just dropped on us. Quote

I'm very much in favor of speeding things along like that, but unless I'm mistaken, they didn't have it figured out that they could just hang back and do nothing. If they have the battle figured out to where they can't take damage, yeah, you may as well just run the rest of the rounds, but you shouldn't just give them the answer. Quote
Khorne Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Well, Khorne, that was a bombshell and a half you just dropped on us. The 'thumbs up' makes me guess that's a good thing! Quote
Endgame Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Most definitely. I was not expecting a ticket into Dastan. Quote
Palathadric Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 KingoftheZempk, I'm not sure what your plan is, but if the enemies don't have a particular level, how will free hits work? You may want to at least notify the players. Quote
KotZ Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 KingoftheZempk, I'm not sure what your plan is, but if the enemies don't have a particular level, how will free hits work? You may want to at least notify the players. All enemies have a passive special making them equal to twice a heroes level. Free hits will go down the battle order, which is how free hits generally occur if I'm not mistaken. I'll make a note of it as well in the thread. Quote
Palathadric Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Okay, so they will be double the level of the hero they target? Got it. Interesting method of balancing the battle. Quote
KotZ Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Yup, it says so on each enemy's special, below their normal with the phrase "Passive special". So for Bobby, the enemy will be a level 2, yet an enemy targeting Benji will be around level 80, don't have his stats exact on my phone right now. Side note, do the enemies seem balanced and fair? Quote
CMP Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Side note, do the enemies seem balanced and fair? They've seem fine to me, especially considering the level difference. Quote
Zepher Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Yes! Balancing is incredibly difficult for partys of different levels, but we've just seen two methods in 109 and 110 (I am also attempting it in 102, but the levels there aren't quite as drastic). The only issue with the current method (everyone being x2) is that all the enemies are pretty equally scary to attack. So really the different healths don't mean anything - its an obvious choice pick off the ones with low health first, since we're in no more danger from the high health ones. In a normal battle, we have to make choices - take down the powerhouse with low health, or pick off the low level high health foes, or so-on and so-forth. Quote
Asphalt Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 As we saw last time one unlucky round and the three of us are toast. But a level one hero is death fodder anyway. I might have gone with fewer enemies since we have a much smaller chance of killing 6 of them in one round than they have of killing all three of us in one round. Quote
Flare Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I can't get hit more than once because every enemy is level 88. I also can't attack from the front row. It's quite limiting and frustrating honestly Quote
Asphalt Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Yeah the double the level special is a bit crazy at your level isn't it. Edited September 3, 2014 by Asphalt Quote
KotZ Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Ok, I'll definitely try to fix that for future battles. Also, the round will be run and updated later today, I have a busy schedule for the next six or so hours. Quote

Zepher Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Sorry all, I'm feeling a little under the weather. Probably nothing significant, but updates may be a little slow for the next day or two! Quote
Palathadric Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 CMP, it only takes 50 gold to merge a gem with an artifact. Quote
Zepher Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 107, hope you're enjoying the side-quests. I actually am in a unique position with them where I imagine your experience with them is radically different than the way I am currently experiencing them. And of course talking about them would sort of ruin the magic. Just wanted to get it out there that I hope they're not too off-putting, but still aptly bizarre. Quote
StickFig Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Deus: 24 (Bust) Dealer: 17 Grimwald: 20 (winner) Deus gains 40 gold and half a level of experience! I think I must play Blackjack by different rules than you, Pyrovisionary.... Quote
