Flipz Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Smoke bomb! And yes, I have a lot of QM Lounge thoughts for this... I hate it. One of the great tragedies of 102, I think, is how Matthias has been steamrolled...mostly by Purpearl. But yeah, with the two elves generally sticking together and Alexis being super-passive (and XX generally siding with Purpearl even when Nerwen didn't), it's hard for you to have had any sort of agency. As much as I've loved the first four-fifths of the Quest (as an observer), I do think that certain party members have been given way too much power compared to the others--not just Party Leader stuff (though I do think a set Party Leader position was a poor fit for this style of Quest), but also in terms of whose words and actions were given weight by the NPCs (both allied and otherwise). It's one reason I don't default to "Party Leader controls the NPCs" in my Quests--I hate that tradition, it needs to die in a fire. In my opinion, NPCs should be controlled by whoever paid them the most attention/got them on their good side, or barring that they should be given first to active players who don't already have a lot of power. Similarly, NPCs shouldn't just listen to whomever in the party is more obviously powerful, or experienced, or only the Heroes they have prior knowledge of. The latter two in particular can easily get exclusionary, which is very definitely a bad thing. Quote

That's typically what I do too. Notice Lane switched from KotZ's control to Zakura's after KotZ decided to let the Wolfgangers in the party. Quote
Flipz Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 And just to be clear: nothing against Purpearl the player! It just so happens that her (his?) character is very steamroll-y, which can be used for good but generally results in someone else getting the short end of the stick (no pun intended ). Quote

I would have said Berthadhiell and Nerwen have been opposed more often than in agreement, and Matthias and RuffPig have been tight the whole quest, but yes I see the gnome being oppressed. Quote
StickFig Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 ...the gnome being oppressed. I can just see the picket lines for the Gnome Liberation Front (GLF) now... "Freedom for the half-height! Gnomes deserve equal rights!" (For reference, GLF is pronounced "glyph" hahahaha) Quote

K-Nut Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Gnomes Need Ordinary Mannish Equaliy? My day just started, and I'm already sure this is going to be the highlight for me. He would just need to join Cronk's quest for Orc equality (if he ever came around anymore ) Quote
The Legonater Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hi there, Purpearl. . Welp, I'm never taking Regret seriously again. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I love it when NPC's unintentionally become homages. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I love it when NPC's unintentionally become homages. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw that NPC! Quote
Palathadric Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 And yes, I have a lot of QM Lounge thoughts for this... I hate it. Shame! You've been the best part of a great quest. Nerwen and Purpearl have been brilliant this quest as well and I think Zepher really pulled a lot of great interactions out of you all. I can see though that you as a player may find it frustrating, but Matthais just seems like a character that is easy for the others to walk all over. He's amazing though. Please keep up whatever you're doing and if it's your hating the quest that is making Matthais so great then just keep hating it. It's almost done. ...I hope this doesn't sound too selfish. Quote
Zepher Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I love Matthias too. I'm sorry you've so vocally hated the quest, Stick - I wish you had told me before this final stretch. I could have done something about it if you'd told me earlier, but now its just sort of demotivating. Quote
Palathadric Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 What I find so amazing though, is that despite his not liking the quest very much, his character has still been absolutely brilliant throughout it. Quote
Zepher Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I agree. All four players have delivered to a degree that I previous thought nearly-impossible. Quote
JimBee Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Agreed! The party dynamics in 102 are some of the best we've ever seen, IMO. I also really like the trio in 116. The three no-nonsense men have a really good synergy so far, and WBD's NPCs add to that a lot. I'm really liking Hoke more and more lately. Quote

And thanks, thats probably just the good vibes from WBD's level of professional that he puts into the quest! I've always wanted to be on a WBD quest and I have to say I am not disappointed. Quote

I'm really liking Hoke more and more lately. As stated by Flare, I absolutely love being on 116 so far. I really think all the no-nonsense that you're talking about really suits the style of the mystery. Especially with the Lotua right now, it's starting to seem like a noir film a bit, at least tome, which I'm totally digging right now. Excellent job WBD! Quote

Trying to really bring up the roleplaying story with Hoke. Quote
