Endgame Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I'm so worried we're going to fail this quest. How good was the loot you originally had compared to Pie's? It is rather scary, and a well crafted battle ( to CMP), but I suspect you'll be fine. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Just a general question regarding photography, but what lights do you use for your scenes? BrickDoctor, Pyro, Sandy and WBD (to name just afew): your photography is always excellent, so I was wondering how you pull it off? I have lots of difficulty decently lighting my scenes . Just the sun, with a very small aperture and a very long exposure. I have my photo setup next to a large window, and I just take all the photos around the same time of day when I've found that the lighting turns out the best. Not having a complex lighting setup helps with realistic outdoor lighting and shadows in my scenes, as well.Sometimes I also wait until nighttime and do a really long exposure of a set lit only with an iPhone or an iPad, smokebelch style, but that's usually only for sci-fi scenes. I don't think I've ever used that setup for Heroica. Quote
KotZ Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I was worried about it even remotely resembling Kjorfalneire but I think I did a good enough job of it. I also meant the stats and all. It definitely looks great It is rather scary, and a well crafted battle ( to CMP), but I suspect you'll be fine. Definitely a good boss battle. Quote
CMP Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 It is rather scary, and a well crafted battle ( to CMP), but I suspect you'll be fine. Definitely a good boss battle. (Pie's stats and specials are way better, though. ) Thanks everyone. It's pretty much what the entire Quest has been leading up to and I'm glad it doesn't disappoint. I hope the loot doesn't disappoint either. Quote

I hope the loot doesn't disappoint either. That loot is amazing. Think about a Mystic Knight with that tongue, or a spellcaster using both the Cloak of the Sea Beast and the Regina Marina. Quote
Sandy Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 I hope the loot doesn't disappoint either. Hehe! You should make the Cloak available to Weather Mages, too, now that they've been officially added to the game. Quote
CMP Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Hehe! You should make the Cloak available to Weather Mages, too, now that they've been officially added to the game. Maybe I should just edit it to any class that can cast elemental spells. I'm sure there'll probably be another new expert class with the capability in the future. Quote
swils Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Welp, Thormy's a petty thief, now. I only meant to check for a hidden lever for the trapdoor, didn't realize the plan was to just shatter it, heh. Quote
Flipz Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Fun fact: there are currently 14 Mythril Shards in circulation, out of a total of 26 released. Of those 14, 4 are on Quest 118, 3 are on Quest 105, 1 is in the Fields of Glory, and 7 are in Heroica Hall (two of them belonging to Heroes who have not been active recently). Adamantite, being substantially rarer, has only 4 pieces in circulation: one belonging to Boomingham, and three to Docken. Of course, the real question is: who is collecting these materials, and who is merely searching for a buyer? Quote
JimBee Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Of course, the real question is: who is collecting these materials, and who is merely searching for a buyer? I have plans for my four shards. It was't easy getting all of them together, although they have been laying around in my inventory for a while... I'm just debating which weapon (or shield) to use them on, as well as the Crimson Venom. Quote

It was't easy getting all of them together, although they have been laying around in my inventory for a while... I'm just debating which weapon (or shield) to use them on, as well as the Crimson Venom. The answer to both is Zoot's Reaper, after some upgrading; with the sole exception of Chi Monk ( ), Zoot's Reaper is suitable for literally any class you take, forever. Even if you wanted to use it on the SoAH, it would be a waste, since you can just kill more stuff with it anyways to upgrade it (yes, that takes time, but seriously, there's no need to pay for more upgrades with its absurd power ). Also, you want to keep that Crimson Venom away from the SoAH, since poison death won't count as a kill for SoAH upgrading. That said, if you wanted to go an unorthodox route, you could always put the Crimson Venom on the Banana Bladerang and watch every QM ever break down crying. Quote

Those are all good points, especially that last one. The classes that I plan on going for in the future will typically use the same weapons. I was hoping to upgrade some of them to fit certain needs, but I also didn't realize the bit about poison/curse damage not counting towards a SOAH kill... hm... Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Adamantite, being substantially rarer, has only 4 pieces in circulation: one belonging to Boomingham, and three to Docken. I don't think Boomingham has one anymore; I bought his. Unless he got another one, in which case Zeph should've PMed me ASAP so I can give him a pile of Gold. Quote
JimBee Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 That loot is amazing. Think about a Mystic Knight with that tongue, or a spellcaster using both the Cloak of the Sea Beast and the Regina Marina. Come to think of it, wouldn't any spellcaster with an *absorb element* artifact effectively be able to heal themselves by casting a spell of said element on themselves? Er, well, barring the chance that they roll SHIELD and cause AoE damage to the entire party... so not as good or confusing as a healing staff... Quote
Flipz Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Come to think of it, wouldn't any spellcaster with an *absorb element* artifact effectively be able to heal themselves by casting a spell of said element on themselves? Er, well, barring the chance that they roll SHIELD and cause AoE damage to the entire party... so not as good or confusing as a healing staff... That's correct; it was the primary gimmick of the boss fight of Quest 100 (Seneschal unleashed a wave of Earth-elemental damage that hit all combatants, hurting the Heroes while healing the golems). It would also apply if, say, a Hero decided to imbue a weapon with a gem and use the relevant weapon on themselves; in that scenario, a Knight or Paladin could heal themselves without putting the party at risk--if they rolled a SHIELD, it would just raise Sentinel/Guardian Angel. Well, I can't seem to decided on an avatar image, so I'll just use both for now. If anyone wants to see more full-size images (including my preliminary concept!), a link to the Flickr album may be found here. Quote
StickFig Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Red background one. Definitely. Not even close. Quote

Sandy Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Looks like we have a new shop at the Marketplace! Dain Almight's Bomb Shelter is open to business! Also note that Fabian sells new artifacts (familiar from Quest#93). Have fun shopping! Quote
The Legonater Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Stun Bomb (Deals 5 damage and the stunned-effect to all opponents when used.) Costs 15 gold. Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculously under priced? It's a very cool weapon, but you could easily stock up on these and get someone to use one at the top of every round and carve through battles. That said, this store will be very useful to future Cannoneers! Quote
K-Nut Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Definitely gonna make a few purchases once I get back from Dain and Fabian. Quote
KotZ Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I can't wait to go to the marketplace now. Something I just noticed looking through Fabian's store: the Armor of the Draugr came from Capt.JohnPaul didn't it? Quote
Endgame Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) I think a lot of the bombs are inexpensive: for example, Blind Bomb + Sleep Bomb = 3 free turns against pretty much anything, for 30 gold. I'm worried that this is going to cause a lot more "Immune to Blindness and Sealing" as a result, which is no fun... Edited November 16, 2014 by Endgame Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculously under priced? It's a very cool weapon, but you could easily stock up on these and get someone to use one at the top of every round and carve through battles. I think all of the effect bombs, except for the Poisoning one, are probably under-priced. Thirty Gold is a small price to pay (for a Blinding bomb and a Sealing bomb) to render just about every enemy harmless. (And then QMs will start making more enemies immune to effects, which both makes the effects pointless and unfairly nerfs scroll users, neither of which we want.) They're the same price as a Tonic, so it's comparable purely in Gold cost to a couple attempts at dealing the effect with a scroll, but these bombs are much more readily available, useable by everyone, and guaranteed to succeed. But we should probably give them a month or two to see how they work out in practice before considering a nerf. Quote
Sandy Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 I can easily raise their price, if that's a concern. Quote
CMP Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 If the effect-bombs had their costs bumped up to 30 I think it'd be fine. We don't want Blindseal Bombs to be the hottest thing since Mead Nostrum Smelling Salts Cocktails. Quote
