The Legonater Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I have a slightly morbid theory that he died. I mean, every other hero on a quest would do what Avalanche did back in #100 and leave a message before exiting. So why not say he was leaving? Sometimes people just forget about things, and/or move on. I've been involved in plenty of RPGs in the past where people have dropped out without a word. Quote
StickFig Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 He's made a comeback, but he's acting totally scummy. Vote: Fred Daniel Yam (William Harkenshire) Oh, whoops! I mean, what party needs a cleric? That might be why Matthias is now a Druid, figured the LFG would get answered quickly if it said "free rezz and healz".... Quote
Flipz Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Yeah, funny thing about clerics: they work better when they actually heal people. While I'm on the subject of strategy rants, does anyone remember where my huge rant on how much more important SP is over HP went? I've done several, but I seem to recall the first or second one being particularly epic. I need to gather links to these things so I can toss them out whenever they pass out of common memory. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Hah, I nipped in to see if anyone had any care for Tesni to return and see a discussion ongoing about us missing ones! I'm afraid I got into a spot of bother and writing Tesni got difficult, I play to develop a character more than powerhouse my way forwards. Then a little facet of development I had planned for her was lost to missing out on fighting Wren one last time and I was adrift without a plot. Life got in the way and then loads of stuff has happened in Heroica since... I'm planning on making a return soon (I have some figure changes to make and photo) once I have formulated some in-story reason for Tesni to have dropped off the face of the planet. Have I missed a lot? Quote
K-Nut Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Nice to see you're still lingering around! I don't know how much you missed, but I'd definitely get caught up on Sandy's quests to see what's going on with the houses lately. There's also a new game going around called Decamon that you can look into if you want to (Quest #100 covers that). There have been a couple rule changes, but those are all pretty easy to get caught up on. I eagerly look forward to your return! Quote

Have I missed a lot? Nice to see you're coming back. More heroes have been coming/going, but the beauty of Heroica is that you don't really need to catch up on anything to get back into the swing of things....but as far as important story-based quests go, I'd point you to Quests 66, 85, 89/90/91, and 100 for all the huge stuff. Maybe she went back to visit her homeland or something? I think a lot of people have written a bit of story into their character's return after an absence and I think they're pretty cool (Khorne's for example). Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Nah, I was thinking existential crisis + lots of ale and a bit of finding herself again. Maybe a lot of fallout from the Wren stuff and the Cysgodion/Dryw fight for supremacy. Then once I hit the mark, create someone else to have a play with for a while! Quote

If I might shamelessly plug my character's backstory, what if you had Tesni off studying under the Munchkin tribe this whole time? Think "Went off to study under Tibetian Monks," just without the Tibetian monks. She could be going through that crisis while examining all the life choices she's made, looking at them through the lens of 200 years of collected philosophy. She's finally found herself again, and is ready to get back in business. Not to mention, if you ever need Ooc knowledge, it gives a great reason* why your character would have it. *(The Munchkins have spent the last 200 years basically recording every scrap of knowledge about anything they could possibly learn. They freely teach most of it, except for a few "Things that Must Not be Known".) Edited December 22, 2014 by Lind Whisperer Quote

UsernameMDM Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) That sounds super contrived. I just wrote Hoke's absence off by saying he was attending to matters at home IF another PC asked. You really don't need a cover story, just come back and play! Edited December 22, 2014 by UsernameMDM Quote
Asphalt Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 With all the Wibey Wobley Timey Wimey stuff going on lately Tensi might have just been asleep in a broom closet off to one corner of the Hall and lost track of time. Quote
Emjajoas Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I'm going to say it right now, but I already regret nothing for picking the party I did based solely on the Alexander/Guts exchange. Absolutely brilliant. Quote

Well, Arthur fused himself with his Zoot's Plaything in the process of turning it into a weapon. If that doesn't provide Tesni with food for thought, I don't know what would. Quote
StickFig Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Yeah, funny thing about clerics: they work better when they actually heal people. What's that supposed to mean? Matthias hasn't even had a chance! Quote
Flipz Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 What's that supposed to mean? Matthias hasn't even had a chance! More aimed towards the other gnome in Heroica. In other news, Skirmishers are my new favorite enemies to throw at Heroes. You guys don't mind twelve more battles just like the most recent one in 118, right? Quote
LordoftheNoobs Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) Has anyone else ever felt really bored with their character? I mean, like, flat-out wish you'd never bothered with them in the first place and had the much better idea for a character you have now back when you made the first one? 'Cause yeah, that's my situation right now. EDIT: And what Flipz said above is another thing; team support is NOT my usual play-style at all. Edited December 23, 2014 by LordoftheNoobs Quote

'Cause yeah, that's my situation right now. I think most of us have been there. I know I've wanted to start over on several occasions, because I no longer seemed to liked my character. I just continue playing as Eric, because I've just come so far now, I don't want to give up his items . But yeah, I've definitely toyed with the idea of starting over. EDIT: Wow, Eric's tale was much longer than I anticipated . I got carried away, I guess. Silly Nords and their stories, am I right ? Edited December 23, 2014 by Khorne Quote

Flipz Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 He's too high a level to tank, and we don't have good disables, plus I have a feeling we're tempting fate every time we stay and fight. The sword is awesome, but not worth failing a Quest over. Quote

Cutcobra Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Ooooh, so Geor Bullsworth is the father of those brats that we saved in #93. Has anyone else ever felt really bored with their character? I mean, like, flat-out wish you'd never bothered with them in the first place and had the much better idea for a character you have now back when you made the first one? 'Cause yeah, that's my situation right now. When I started I really felt like starting anew since Heckz was nothing and had dull quirks, I also made him act like he was cunning for some reason. Now I made him more interesting (at least to me) and I don't feel like changing anymore. Maybe you can focus more on your character, making him original and so on and you'll start to like him. Quote

'Cause yeah, that's my situation right now. EDIT: And what Flipz said above is another thing; team support is NOT my usual play-style at all. This would be more appropriate perhaps for the theater, but if you ever find yourself unsatisfied with your character, that often means you've depleted their fair share of tropes, i.e. qualities or aspects of your character background that are cool as conversation pieces and highlights, but once you've used them up your character is left high and dry and sometimes boring both to read and to play. When you get to that point, one thing I like to do is take a step back and consider everything my character is going after. Characters with goals often last much longer than characters with tropes. Characters with goals have something to strive after from quest to quest, characters with tropes have situations and experiences to spotlight their weird/unique attributes but they often have to wait for those situations/experiences to come up or they have to try and create them themselves (see forced roleplaying). Reflect on your character, what drives him? Knowledge, prestige, wealth, power, balance in nature, destruction, creation, discovery, liberation, nobility/honor, order, chaos, play, service, liberation, enslavement, torment, guilt, understanding, benevolence? Figure out what makes your character get out of bed in the morning or keeps them up at night. Granted Heroica RPG isn't a free form world, so some goals, i.e. the destruction of the Dastanese empire might be a little difficult to achieve in the game, so always keep that in mind but don't be afraid to tackle something really big, granted it might take you a long time and require a lot of support and input from QM's and other players. Suffice it to say, when you've got that goal, then you'll find the reason to keep playing as your character because your character will now have a reason to keep living. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Hybros turns his cards in for a Grand Potion, a Health Core and a Fenghaung Essence. "It is not bad for 75 gold... at least I was able to keep my Genie." He pockets the items as his existence in the tournament hall begins to fade. It's a phoenix essence, the Fenghuang was a reverse prize to get an ethereal card. Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Anyone know off the top of their head what Alexis' relationship with Tensi is? Quote
