Lind Whisperer Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I've imagined Kiray as 5'8", and I'm 5'6" in real life. I imagine Lind as being about as tall as I am...so, somewhere just below six feet. It seems to me like a lot of the heroes in this game are either tall and lanky or towering behemoth's. Though the name Munchkin is very confusing in itself too. I can how the name would be confusing. I was trying to make a reference to the playing style. But...yes, it is kind of confusing. Quote
Flipz Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 No. Being a Mary Sue is a bad thing. I've been trying for years to try and tone all of Arthur's excess baggage down (without outright retconning too much) so as to improve him, but I still have a long ways to go. (Hell, it's one of the reasons I had him get fired from the Town Watch--yes, he's had a significant impact on the Wolfgang storyline, and I'll continue to leverage his experiences with his time in the Watch, but it shouldn't be about him, which being part of the Watch came dangerously close to becoming at a couple of points.) A character's special abilities need to be earned through good writing, not just tacked on so as to justify trying to take over a QM's storyline, which unfortunately I've tried more than once in the past. And if you need an example of how badly written all of my pre-66 stuff was... "Well, I..." "Yes, I..." Arthur paused, seeing everyone looking on. He closes his eyes for a moment, and forces himself to speak. "My tale is one of dark portent, that will challenge the thoughts you may have...about me, about the universe, about everything. It is not a tale I would tell lightly, nor one I would wish to tell while unprepared, especially on the eve of such pressing crisis." Arthur nods to the Quest board. "If you truly wish to know the story of my past, then it shall be shared with you when I return." Arthur gets up off an exceptionally opulent (if somewhat stained) chaise lounge chair and heads for the Marketplace. ----- A few moments after Arthur leaves, a green-hatted figure enters the Hall. "Hello, Heroes, I just wanted to stop by and wish you all a merry...um..." *looks at card* "...Grogmas." She pauses, the Heroes staring at her awkwardly. She pulls out a red envelope with fancy white trim and hands it to Thothwick. "Um, right, so anyway, I just wanted to leave something with you for Artie, be a dear and make sure he gets it, OK, Mr. Metasimian? OK, thanks, bye-bye now!" Caroline waltzes meanderingly to the door does a little ballerina twirl once she's outside it, and in a sudden burst of wrathful rage slams it savagely shut. IC: De'kra watches as Arthur leaves suddenly, just before the woman with similar taste in hats enters. After she leaves he clicks to the Metasimian. "Many things about Eubric are still strange to I, but that was...just plain freaky?" When the most oblivious character in the game (not player, mind you, just the character) recognizes how ridiculous your superfluous self-serving roleplaying bit was, you know you've got a problem. I, unfortunately, failed to recognize this, and ended up sticking my nose unnecessarily into the Progg/Regret storyline as a result. (Not that Arthur interacting with The Regret or Roni's inclusion in 48 were bad things per se, but Endgame and I both definitely overblew them and gave Arthur's Mary Sue storyline way too much influence over a Quest he wasn't even on. ) Quote
Fred Daniel Yam Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 So I was away from the site for 3 weeks due to sudden family business, apologies to The Legonator and the members of Q 113 and I missed out on a lot in general. Also, will Decamon be a regular thing or just an occasional event? Quote

StickFig Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 On a completely different note, I'm starting to think I should add a bit in my signature about how Munchkins are humans. I was trying to make a reference to the playing style. But...yes, it is kind of confusing. Hobbits are also , so being human actually makes him being short more interesting - to Matthias the gnome, who is 27" tall, every human is humongous, but some of them are shorter and it's funny to hear him accusing people twice his height of being short.Even the dictionary calls munchkins "a small person, especially one who is dwarfish or elfin in appearance." If that's not your intent, you really should note it somewhere. But I think the joke of making it his personality/playing style is much funnier if it's paired with him being a little on the short side. Quote
Zepher Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Ah the joys of early Althior. I really do think that you've done a commendable job of not ret-conning anything, but letting them inform a strong new character instead. Flipz, it's worth noting Arthur is well on his way to that as well. EDIT: How many books do you think I can have heroes retrieve for Daneeka? Do you think I can have them build him a full library? Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 EDIT: How many books do you think I can have heroes retrieve for Daneeka? Do you think I can have them build him a full library? Make them write out the full text of the fictional books on the wiki for bonus gold and experience. ...I say that as a joke, but actually that's not a half-bad idea if implemented with care... Quote
Sandy Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 Also, will Decamon be a regular thing or just an occasional event? Last we heard it was going to be an annual Grogmas Event. It all depends on how you guys have felt about the event. Do you want more? This event has certainly taught me the ins and outs of running a tournament, and if there's going to be future tournaments, I will certainly get other people to host it with me to make it a much smoother experience for everyone. I just wanted to test its wings by myself this time around. It can become an annual event, sure, but it doesn't necessarily have to take up the Grogmas slot. December isn't a good time for long events, anyway, since many players are absent for long periods of time. Quote
Flipz Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I'd prefer it to be at a time other than Grogmas; I've always really enjoyed the gifting events for the sense of community camaraderie surrounding them, whereas this year we ended up with a competition (and moreover a competition in which most of the participants were quickly eliminated). Maybe sometime in Spring or Summer? Quote
samurai-turtle Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Or in March? 2016 of course. This is more of a March Madness Joke, because of the brackets. Quote
Kintobor Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) And... there goes the party I wanted. Oh well, anyone else want to save some sheep with bezerker Sorsha? Edit: Fixed Sorsha's name. I fear one of these days Sandy's going to snap due to how many times I've screwed that name up. Edited January 3, 2015 by Kintobor Quote

Sandy Posted January 3, 2015 Author Posted January 3, 2015 There's now a huge article in the wiki about the Orcish Invasion. The first few paragraphs were taken from the Baltarok article, so thanks to CMP for writing them! It's good to get all the bits of information into one place! Quote
Zepher Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I have gotten to the point of my quest-hosting that I'm starting to notice some of the tropes I lean on. Apparently I really love old books and libraries. There's an library in 30, 92, 107, and now 123. That's a whole lot of libraries playing important parts. And Sandy, the Orcish Invasion wiki article looks great. We're also working on compiling a list of taverns throughout the world of Olegaia: http://heroica-rpg.wikia.com/wiki/Taverns . That's only a taste... there are apparently a lot of them. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Erdathcath Madilinas, 199 years old *Deceased.* I don't know why but I find the fact this effect is even stated is amusing... Quote

Very much agree! As much as I like the tournament idea, I think the gift-giving was really great. I would like to see both done yearly. I don't know why but I find the fact this effect is even stated is amusing... Flipz, it's worth noting Arthur is well on his way to that as well. Very, very much agree! Althior has been absolutely fabulous and probably one of my favourite heroes to read if not my favourite. I know I really started appreciating him in 100, but I think ever since his "death" he's been very good. I'm really enjoying Arthur as well now. I can't say from when I started enjoying him more. I think his changes have come more gradually. I miss Tanma. You should poke the Iron Builder organizers, convince them to host an Iron Builder Heroica RPG Edition. Quote
Palathadric Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Just for the record I think that Eric and Pretzel should duel over the Satchel of Awesomeness. After all, we were the ones who fought to win it. Khorne, you back me on this right? At least it would be a fairer fight than it would have been way back then. ...I think. Quote

You're right. The fight would be more fair than then. Eric's not all that powerful, his build is quite standard. I certainly don't see him as one of the more stronger heroes stat-wise. Quote

Palathadric Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 By the way, I'd like to comment on just how awesome the vast majority of 2nd characters are so far. A lot of them are very enjoyable to read. I really love Boris and Miderun, but of course I want to kill them both too. I think Boris was made to test Pretzel's resolve. Quote
StickFig Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 And... there goes the party I wanted. I'll come back and save sheep! Don't cry! Matthias can't really believe he's following "The Grey Foxer" anyway. Quote

I certainly don't see him as one of the more stronger heroes stat-wise. Except for those Boots of Evasion... those alone make for a great Raider (or any DPS class) build. Conspirator and those Diseased Silverfish Wings are also pretty powerful. If ever there was a time for that thing to die... This. Quote
