JimBee Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Well done, all of you! I know this wasn't an easy puzzle to solve, especially when you're trying to visualize this. And thanks to all the non-questers that followed along. There were two conditions that had to be met for the puzzle to work. One was that a gem couldn't move if it's weaker element was on top of it (for example the aquamarine couldn't move with the ruby on top). The element match ups were a hint to this: Sapphire (Wind) beats Emerald (Vermin) Emerald (Wood) beats Aquamarine (Water) Aquamarine (Water) beats Ruby (Fire) The ruby could move anywhere no matter what. The other condition is that an element could not "slide under" an element. For example the emerald could not move to column 2 if the ruby was in A2, so it would skip to C3. Or if the ruby was in A2 and the aquamarine was in B3, the emerald would not move at all. I got the puzzle idea from the game Mass Effect, but from what I hear it's been seen elsewhere too. In Mass Effect different block sizes were used instead of elements. It just took some simple logic, and a lot of experimentation. The puzzle can be solved in as few as 14 moves. EDIT: Thanks to Flipz (who also solved it) for finding this link: Tower of Hanoi. The elemental door was a slightly varied version of this, and simplified so that the gems could not move in more than one row (or else the quest would never end ) Quote
CMP Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 My list was Aquamarine won't go under Ruby, Ruby keeps Aquamarine in place Sapphire won't move if anything is in the same column, and will only move to a completely empty one Emerald won't go in the same column as Ruby and Aquamarine What a difference... Well, the problem was solved. Quote
swils Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I didn't follow along with that quest (and thus the puzzle), though now I wish I had, heh! I distinctly remember a tower of Hanoi-esque puzzle from an old Math Blaster game I used to own. The haunted/creepy mansion one, with the mad scientist and such... ah, memories... haha Quote
Quarryman Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Well done, all of you! I know this wasn't an easy puzzle to solve, especially when you're trying to visualize this. And thanks to all the non-questers that followed along. It was a good puzzle, but I think slightly too complex for Heroica due to the long waiting times between making a move and knowing what the effects of that move were. That was probably mostly due to timezone differences though, you tend to come online just before I go to bed. Still, good to see something in this quest that wasn't just another battle, though the battles are much appreciated, just hope there's at least one more before the end. Quote
Sandy Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Hey all, I'm Katie, Darth Nihilus's girlfriend. I finally got an account, so my Heroica character will be up soon. There is one question I have, however: Does anyone know a good, purist technique for a Buster Sword from Final Fantasy? I really want to give my character one of those, but the only good techniques I have found use a custom parts. Welcome, Katie! Looking forward to seeing your character in action. If you want an enormous sword, may I recommend this new piece: I just bought Kai's Blade Cycle and tried the blade on my new Samurai X -fig, and the result was fantastic. I'm quite surprisedthat Sandy hasn't commented on my statement that I plan to flirt with Ellaria. I must've missed that. But flirt all you want, Ellaria is easily swooned. Quote

Looking forward to your character, as anything inspired by Peppy must be good! Just a few ground rules, keep away from that there K-nut, he is a weird one. I'm so sorry, don't hurt me! Quote
Tamamono Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Just a few ground rules, keep away from that there K-nut, he is a weird one. I'm so sorry, don't hurt me! No, no, no, it's K-Nut. Quote
Scorpiox Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 No, no, no, it's K-Nut. Of course, it is K-Nut, how silly of me to forget it was K-Nut. Quote

Just a few ground rules, keep away from that there K-nut, he is a weird one. I'm so sorry, don't hurt me! Trust me, this character has a lot more anger issues than any Barbarian I've seen on here yet. Also, she's got quite a bit against Orcs, so I wouldn't advise Cronk trying to flirt with her. Quote

Darth Nihilus Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 How old is this character? Leo might have a shot at it! Hey all, I just woke up, so Katie had to surrender the computer to me for a bit. She might log back on later. So I'll answer for her, 'kay? Anyway, the character will be 22, so you might have a chance. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Or will you be the characters Love interest darthnihilus? I worked for the Shadeux, You are Shadeux, I might like this character, you might too. Arena calls! Quote

And touch ma Jess and yal be sorreh! How old is this character? Leo might have a shot at it! Leo is on a roll, must be three or four woman he has planned to flirt with without having met any of them! Darth Nihilus Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Arena calls! Yes, indeed it does. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Leo is on a roll, must be three or four woman he has planned to flirt with without having met any of them! He is 17 years old you know! Ellaria or Poison Ivy's character. Hey, if it was my old character Luc we were talking about, it would be every female in Heroica! Quote
Tamamono Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Oh dear, this love plague is getting out of hand! Now heroes are more concerned with flirting than they are with questing! Maybe the rewards for quests should be romantic evenings on the town, from now on! Leo is on a roll, must be three or four woman he has planned to flirt with without having met any of them! Leo's such a player. He is 17 years old you know! Only 17? Sorry Leo, but prepare to be brother-zoned by both of them. Quote

Hey, just because Haldor fell for a girl doesn't mean everybody else has to follow him. And I assume Leo will hear the phrase 'But I thought we were always just best friends' a lot. Quote
CMP Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 If you want an enormous sword, may I recommend this new piece: Now that's a sword! Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Cronk is too hardcore to ever be afraid, plus I'm not even sure he is into that sort of thing. Cronk is a bit naive anyway. Cronk wouldn't know how to flirt. There's still a long story in Cronk's back story about lost love that he hasn't gotten around to telling yet. Quote
Sandy Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Now that's a sword! You betcha! I think you'll be seeing it as an acquirable item in a later quest... Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I can see it now... Massive Sword (WP: 50) Quote
CMP Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I think you'll be seeing it as an acquirable item in a later quest... I hope so...Atramor's gonna look a bit dumb lugging around a shield and a dagger. Of course, how this sword could be held with one hand, I'll never know...isn't that a helicopter blade? Quote

I admire how you play Cronk, in many ways he seems like a child, I maintain that you are one of the best roleplayers here. Cronk? Backstory? Oh yeah! Quote
