Sandy Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Is anyone free for set making? It's a simple quest, really. Depending on what you need, I have my bricks ready. Of course I have already promised to make MOCs for Flipz's quest, not to mention my own two upcoming quests, but what the hey... Pitch me via PM, and we'll talk. Quote
Yzalirk Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) If anyone would like to host an easy breezy starter quest for the newer players, there would definitely be a market for one right now! It really doesn't have to be a part of any epic saga, maybe just an everyday problem that people need Heroica's help with. Highwaymen, roaming monster, kidnapped heir... that sort of deal. I do have a quest planned up but I'm away from my bricks so it's a no-can do. Is anyone free for set making? It's a simple quest, really. I have ideas for quests that I'm working on that I wanted to present sometime in June or July to Sandy, since I don't have a very large brick collection to use. The quests I have planned do lead up to a "raid", as some people may call it. I just have ideas that need to be worked upon. If I had a larger collection, I'd definitely try to host one much sooner. I think I might have what you're looking for - and I think I have the time for it, too. I just need to finish the plot... Are there any QMs who could read through a brief overview plot when I'm done, and make sure it makes sense? I have a bad tendency to make things over-complicated... Quote

Unless you of course want a "second opinion", but I call the shots with which quest propositions are approved and which are not. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) Umm, that would be my job. My bad. After thinking about it, I'm going to wait on that quest till some other time. My proposition will just be a simple "go and fight bad guys," and I can re-use some of the sets for the more complicated one some other time. Just one question - it is permissible to use Blender renders for set MOCs, right? Like the one I used for my Training Room post? I'm asking because the rules list only list LDD as an alternate option. The sets would have brighter lighting than in this one - it's only this dark because it fit the mood better. My POV-Ray renders were accepted by Sandy, so I imagine yours will do just fine as well. Quote
Kintobor Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Nothing wrong with using digital bricks. Some people prefer actual physical models, but if you can't use the physical bricks, digital is a good way to go. Quote
Palathadric Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 At the start of the quest I never would have thought Heckz and Eric would get along so famously, but I guess Throlar has a way of bringing would-be enemies together. Quest 117 for most hilarious party ever! Quote

Quest 117 for most hilarious party ever! Throlar the Friendship and Enemy maker. You know, Throlar wouldn't have gotten on Heckz's bad side if he didn't ruin that fab shirt. Quote

However, Lind's picture was amazing and I wouldn't mind doing that if I knew how to. Hey Lind, how did you make that picture? The atmosphere of it is just spectacular. Quote
JimBee Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I'd prefer those pretty renders over the raw LDD shots (no offense to QMs who do that). Quote
Flipz Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 For those looking to do renders, I'd recommend taking a look at this and this. With them, and some hard work, you can get scenes that look like this: Alchemist_SecretDoor_s5_real by Poochythegenius, on Flickr On a side note, for those wondering: the machine is processing a large batch of Elixir; this step combines Tonic and Remedy together (since they mix readily) and pumps it into an under-floor tank. The glass tank in the background contains Potion mixed with a solvent, allowing it to bind properly with the Remedy and Tonic (and also giving the mixture its golden-brown color); later, the machine would be used to combine both solutions into the final result (or it would have, if anyone was around to do so). However, Lind's picture was amazing and I wouldn't mind doing that if I knew how to. Hey Lind, how did you make that picture? The atmosphere of it is just spectacular. Thanks! To do it, you'll need a basic knowledge of Blender and LDraw, but here's how I did it: First, you build everything individually in LDraw. In my case, I was fortunately able to pull most of the models out of the Eurobricks LDraw Models forum. (Thanks again, Pathaldric! ) Then, I use le17's LDraw to Blender converter to append the models into Blender. I then arrange everything in the way I want the scene to look, add lights, and swap over to "Render." I could try to go into a list of all the little details you can do, but it honestly boils down to just spending a lot of time trying different things. I got the effect of the uneven cobblestones by simply shifting the 1x1 tiles along different axes. When you're lighting it, feel free to try different light combinations, and different colors. (In this scene, I ended up with two different light sources, one blue, one red, and the cards are set to Emit). The most important thing of all, though(and I speak from far too much personal experience) is to make sure to SAVE FREQUENTLY. I don't even want to think about how many times I've wished I've taken my own advice on that. :serious face emoticon we really need: Edited February 24, 2015 by Lind Whisperer Quote

Quest 117 for most hilarious party ever! Having spent the last 3 quests with Throlar, I believe I will genuinely start missing that crazy, maniacal, lunatic Dwarf . He's the Joker to my Batman (or vice-versa) . Heckz is freakin' awesome too, I love questing with him. I wouldn't go as far as calling Eric and Heckz friends though. I believe their 'relationship' is purely superficial and on a basis of a mutual loathing of Throlar. I concur on it being a cool party. The highlight for me was burying a Paladin outside the inn in which they had spent the night and getting away with it. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) Excellent job on the Tin Armor set Sandy! That's pretty much how I visualized the concept. Hopefully we will see some more set pop-up soon. Edited February 24, 2015 by UsernameMDM Quote

CMP Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I like it, but it seems really powerful. 26 base Defense is a lot, and it's only suitable for classes that can use shields, too. Assuming the party keeps the set together it would be trivial to get 40+ Defense. Quote

I completely agree, except that think the best part was when Throlar got mad and ruined Heckz's shirt. Now, let's get to that "Best party evah" nomination in the next Henry's. Quote

Assuming the party keeps the set together it would be trivial to get 40+ Defense. Four times six is 24, not 26. You forget that getting to that amount of defense requires equipping all the artifacts - which in turn requires a high-level character. The set only leaves the backwear and accessory slots open, too, so one would basically have to base the character's build on the artifact set alone. I believe this sufficiently balances the set. Emjajoas Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Honestly it's a beautiful set. One I'd be willing to try to get my hands on, if nobody else was interested in building around it. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Dragoon Arthur w/the Shadeaux Cape & that set. Wowzers. Quote
K-Nut Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Dragoon Arthur w/the Shadeaux Cape & that set. Wowzers. One more Shadeaux quest and he'd put Docken to shame. Quote
Flipz Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Dibs. On the downside, I'd have to give up my full immunity to magic and elements, and two of the immunities are things I have on the Blue Hand Shield (should have waited longer to set those! ). Plus, as Sandy mentioned, it's only really bad once I hit 40--if I hit 40. Dragoon Arthur w/the Shadeaux Cape & that set. Wowzers. One more Shadeaux quest and he'd put Docken to shame. Actually, if 105 had let out before 125, Dragoon Arthur would have had the highest SP in the game. Docken still outclasses me as a tank, though, thanks to his own bodywear. Quote
Palathadric Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Tin Armour, come to Daddy. No...seriously. Just so you know, Pretzel could get better mileage out of the Shadeaux Cloak than Arthur...for now. Quote
