I was going to comment that you need to have completed 10 quests or hosted 5 to create a new character, but apparently Lind's cards contained a "Curse! Change Race" card. :poke:

Get it? Because he's a Munchkin, and that's one of the cards you can get in the game "Munchkin". :sarcasm:

Yeah. That's not how it works.

Highlight the text in his description and his sign-up - Lind's still very much the Human Munchkin he's ever been - they're fake elf ears. Which would have worked a bit better if I could get my hands on a Trickster's Mask of the Elf, but until then, Lind's just wearing comically bad fake elf ears.

I decided to take a new spin on the Assassin idea. Everyone's always playing ninja-style Assassins that dress in a very non-disguising fashion, so I thought I'd try playing an Assassin that does wear disguises. You expect the dark figure in a gi to stab you with their katana, but you don't expect the, eh, flamboyant elf magician to suddenly slice off your arm with one of the playing cards he's been doing tricks with.

Yeah. That's not how it works.

I doubt Lind actually changed his race. There's only one fantasy race in this game I can think of that can do that, and that's Changelings, but they don't really count since they don't actually change their race, just their appearance.

Also, they're unplayable as a PC race, so yeah.

The only race that I know of that changes into/turns you from one race to another is Dragonborn, and that's D&D and has no Heroica equivalent.

At least it wasn't *curse: change sex* that's minus 5 to next combat. Yikes!

That's not the case in 4.0....

 Just beware of the possibility of losing some of that text formatting if/when it gets copied from the page instead of the editor. And beware of trying to use your new "elf" appearance to benefit from, say, that shield that shares defenses with elves.

*shakes head*

No fear - I'm a Munchkin. I work strictly inside the rules. Trying to benefit from a shield that shares defenses with elves? Fully outside the rules.

Using my appearance to slip into a quest aimed towards elves?

...Well, if it looks like an elf, it talks vaguely like an elf, and it dresses...sort of like an elf...

Jimmy Christmas, I take one afternoon off and this is what happens.

I wasn't planning on the "flamboyancy," originally, but then I remembered I had that torso, and it just seemed to fit.

It's not that you took off, it's that Lind came back.

I personally think it's a hilarious character choice.

I don't particularly have a problem with it, especially if he's dedicated to the idea of it being a really, really bad, as he said, comically bad, costume. If it gets roleplayed beyond "Well, maybe in the dark he could pass for an elf", then I'd say that it's beginning to step on the toes of the disguise-mask artifacts. Things like that exist for a reason.

I'd say that's up for different NPCs and QMs to decide. Didn't someone once pose as Bonapartes? I think I got a kick out of that too.

I don't think elves would be tricked, but it'd be hilarious if a kid was pulled into the ruse, or if someone played along and screwed him over later on, or anything. Why not! We've got lots of characters with weird traits that everyone responds to differently.

/shrug, maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud, but I just think it's selfish to take something that is pretty unique to a set of artifacts, and then go ahead and make it your own free trait. Like, if you want to RP that you're a man of many faces, then go through the effort to actually acquire those faces. It's akin to having an exdragoon's dragon do something for them when they don't actually have a dragon according to the rules.

Ultimately though, yes, I suppose it is up to individual QM's.

I am trying to get my hands on a Trickster's Mask of the Elf, but the person I PM'd hasn't responded yet, and in case neither Warlen, Annie, or myself are high enough to be selected for #135, I didn't want to have to wait until July 17th for a quest...(Yes, I do know that #136 closes prior to #135, but with the extreme level disparities in the current signees, I'm assuming in the possibility of the deadline being extended. And, even if it isn't, that's still 150 gold that Lind could very much use...)

So what you're saying, just as I'm reading it, is that you purposely sidestepped a mechanic (character race) in order to better your chances at getting into a quest, because you're impatient?

You really should have just left it at "I'm playing a disguise-based character because I think it's a fun twist." Lol

If you PM'd me, I haven't gotten it. Oh, and I do own one, and I'm not selling it.

No, I was PMing Flipz about renting his/paying for it after the quest was over, since he's selling off his gear. The only other two people that have them(you and Thormanil) are off on quests.

I'm thinking about having Lind equip his Trickster's Mask of the Human, and if anyone tells the guy claiming to be an elf that he doesn't look like an elf, "of course I don't, I'm disguised as a human".

I am.

I'm fine with waiting until the 17th if I have to. Lind is trying to disguise himself to get into #135 - it's the sort of thing he does, as a Munchkin.

Also, I'm particularly interested in #135 because I'm seeing all the potential chances for some hilarious RP, with a character that is very clearly not an elf, trying to blend in as an elf...

Replace elf with human and you've got yourself a Heckz.

I'm sure Flynn Flisperer and Heckz will get along quite nicely.

Quest #138: Fade To Black

Quest Master: Endgame

Party Requirements: Vorpalis is likely called "The Ancestral Oppressor" for good reason. We need four to sex experienced heroes to stop him.

Reward: 175 gold and a Letter of reccomendation to all heroes who slay the dragon.

Sex heroes? So you're looking for harlots? :poke:

Oooh... shiny letter of recommendation! Sign Karie up immediately!

Naturally the plan is to seduce ancient vorpal dragon guy.
