Emjajoas Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 As for me, I'm Sungold baby! Boomingham will be running for King. Good luck, Guts! King Boomingham'll have at least one backer in Mortimer. I was pretty torn between what to pick up until you said that, but I figure he'd jump at the chance to support one of his friends. Quote

K-Nut Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 King Boomingham'll have at least one backer in Mortimer. I was pretty torn between what to pick up until you said that, but I figure he'd jump at the chance to support one of his friends. I'm not sure who I'll back for Sungold king, actually. I think Althior has the most cumulative reputation for Sungold, so he needs to put his powerful vote to good use. A bribe from his future king wouldn't hurt, after all... This is going to become the pirate court of At World's End, everyone just voting for themselves. I considered voting for Althior, but I figure there's no way he's a leadership figure. He doesn't really want to be involved in politics in any way really. Quote
Flipz Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Sorry, UQ, your battle will be up in a couple of hours. Quote
Kintobor Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Emjajoas, if Karie ran for the Queen of Sungold Alliance, would you vote for her or Lawrence? Not that she is or anything. Quote
Emjajoas Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Emjajoas, if Karie ran for the Queen of Sungold Alliance, would you vote for her or Lawrence? Not that she is or anything. If Em tears himself in half, does he get two votes? That's a tough question, though. I think he'd vote for Boomingham for the simple fact that he knows Boomingham is already a capable leader, and he's not really sure of what exactly Karie's capable of in a position of authority like that??? He has massive respect for both as people, but as a Ruler I figure he has a higher opinion of Boomingham. I'm not sure, I'd have to give it more thought and he'd probably have to have a long chat with them both. Quote
Kintobor Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Alright, I was just curious. I don't want to jump into the Sungold Alliance knowing Lawrence is running the scene. Karie would have none of that knowing their history, and I don't want to lose Minstrel because of that. As of right now, I think Karie's fine staying neutral. She's got more important things to deal with than the house's squabbles. Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Deez Nuts Tonald Drump now running for king... Quote

Sorry, Kinto. It's funny, from Syndicate onwards Boomingham hated Karie, and Karie was sort of more on the side of "let's forget about it". Now, 105 onwards, Boomingham has sort of moved on since his debt feels filled, and Karie is the one who is more "I'll never forgive". I really love re-reading the opening of 70. Boomingham really took a liking to Karie. Made it all the better. As for Guts v. Boomingham... I think they've only met once. Regardless of whoever ends up being the two heads of the Alliances, it'll be cool to see it ripple through OTHER characters. I imagine, for example, Hybros will back Guts, but he and Boomingham are fast friends too. So, what then? Great change to the status quo. Quote

Maybe because post-105, Boomingham had to go and chop off some poor dude's arm. Also, 100 gold says the next even (or the Wolfgang event) will be called "Kingbreaker". Quote
Zepher Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 @Kinto @Em I think I can convince Em... maybe Nerwen too. Karie might be a tough sell. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I distinctly remember Boomingham backing Guts at one point or another. Quote
Zepher Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Find it. I do want to go back and re-read their conversation. I think I (Zepher) may have backed you, not so sure about Boomingham. But I could be wrong! Doesn't matter. Boomingham is forgetful. Can't find their first conversation, but found lots of conversations about Guts trying to be King: First Mention (I think, Guts seems to have not considered it until the next post): "That is true, I suppose. But then, what does it take to make a good king? Leadership, strength? You have both Guts, but somehow it seems more fitting to have you lead with a dagger in your hand and a group of heroes behind you. Does Eubric, or Olegaia for that matter, even need a king? It seems rule has only benefited the top individuals and suppressed the rest. I have experienced that, Guts. Would you or anyone else as king fix that?" "Me, well, taking on 108 insane ninjas can not be good on the body... but we are all getting older I suppose eheh." Campaigning: "What I take from that is that you think you can achieve the most power by working alone. On your own terms, answering to no one. Let me... propose something to you. I am Guts Holla. The Raider. The Captain. Guts Holla is not my true name, nor do I need to use that, or another of the dozens of names I have. What you need to know is I am the strongest person on the island right now. If you are looking for a fight, you will not find an opponent that can outshine me. Thirty five years ago I had less than any idiot in the hovels could begin to imagine. Ten years after, I owned an empire. After that, it took the power of a temple and the strongest magicks you have witnessed to stop my heart, but I rose again and am here, able to take on any hero in this hall and walk out unscratched. I am offering you an opportunity. Join me, and I will make you stronger than you can imagine, and give you all the power you long for." Accepting his destiny: Guts slowly shakes his head at Hybros, as to say he disapproved. "I hope you know what to do if it does come to conflict, if your people have been gone for so long, you are the link between them and the world as it is today." The Alchemist then shrugged. He takes a sip and says bitterly: "King. Yeah. I don't know. It's just that, but... Someone needs to clean up the mess. The Wolfgang is getting more and more powerful, nasty things are happening, but it may be too late to make a real difference. Months ago, we might have had a chance if we had acted, but now? What will the few heroes that would support me do to win over the Houses, the Gang or the People? I will never have the Heroica Veterans' support, I see that now, and the Houses just want to keep the world to be as it used to. No one important is going to support a coup made by a Strivvian exile." And this is the closest I can find to an endorsement: "Guts?" Boomingham's murky eyes fish around in his memory. "Isn't he that angry chap with the shaved head. Feel like we got into a debate over something or other and then had a good laugh over a glass of wine. My sort of man. But I can't remember what it could have been about..." He nods. "Another drink sounds just dandy. Should we waltz on over to the bar and see why the kids are giving our lovely bar keep trouble?" He gestures to Heckz and his crew. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I am forgetful too. Same reason, mostly. It may have been you and not Boomingham, I don't remember. What I've found from a quick search in the Hall is that Hybros at one point mentioned to Boomingham that Guts told him there needed to be a king, and he could be the one to do it, and Boomingham kind of being Boomingham and saying that he liked Guts, from what he remembered. (this was over two years ago) Then way before that, they actually had a conversation about it, with Boomingham neither agreeing nor disagreeing, really. Quote
Zepher Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Yeah I'm trying to track down that first conversation. I do love reading the Hall. Some of those characters... there are so many I would have voted for as far as funniest character goes. Hybros is hilarious. There's a point early on in the Hall where he finds Boomingham drunk talking to Haldor and someone else about women, and he "doesn't understand petty human relationships" and then observes that Boomingham is repaying debts and sort of laughs at him. Quote
Cutcobra Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 By the way, is Boomingham allowed to be a king if he already was one before? (At least I think he was...) This is going to become the pirate court of At World's End, everyone just voting for themselves. I thought the exact same thing! Quote

I thought about going the neutral route with Em, but as soon as I saw that Boomingham was vying for Kingship, I knew what had to be done. @Kinto @Em Consider Em convinced already. All Boomingham's gotta do is talk to him about becoming King the next time they cross paths and he'll have a new knight to back his cause. While the Future King was talking to some of his confidantes earlier today, he expressed concern over boxing out Karie. Sorry, Kinto. Still some of the defining moments of Heroica for me are those quests. You guys really shined with that spotlight; it made the early days incredibly enjoyable, and although it's taken me a while to figure out how, it's defined Em a lot as a character. I, too, am really excited to see who's going where; Mortimer's got few people he considers "close friends," and it'd be really crazy to see them on opposite sides. If you asked me who he considers his friends, the first three people I'd name would be Karie, Boomingham, and Hybros, so I'm really excited to see how things shape up. Mad props to Sandy for this event, it's a really great way to spice things up. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I thought the exact same thing! Can I get a guy with a giant turban and a high pitched voice that talks instead of Guts. That's all I want. Lind, I just read your intro into the Crescent Union, very good. Deez Nuts Tonald Drump now running for king... More like Deez Guts 2015. Without getting too 'topical', I fully expect at least one candidate to start talking about them darn naga and how the guild's potions cause green fever. Quote
