They're not a replacement for normal HP by any means (case in point: Crits deal the same amount of damage as Hits and damage-dealing SHIELDs), but it does allow for a more even contribution when the party's Power is mismatched. Zepher Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Basically the argument I am making, we are too invested, somehow. I am unsure, but I think sometimes people shouldn't be a stickler for established Heroica lore. Does that make sense? I agree and at the same time disagree. It's a fine line between being respectful of the hard work people have put in over the last 4 years, and allowing there to be room for growth. So we get too defensive, but the respect and seriousness we treat the game with is something I value too. Regardless, that was a poor welcome from everyone. Everyone play the game you want to play. You can be from wherever. If other people aren't cool with it, they'll just treat you like you're crazy. It's happened before, it'll happen again. Endgame Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Almost exactly what I thought - I pictured Dry Bones. Huh, that is more fitting, since its bipedal. Also, a little longer/ramble-y than I originally planned, but I hope people enjoy that little glimpse into Immortalis's mind. Quote

Endgame Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Lind has something to do with this, doesn't he. #PurgetheHall Nah, Karie calling him stupid was the last straw. He's a petty one. I don't think the Hall is the place to establish random NPC background. More along the lines of the court of demons posters that built up 53 (teasers for a quest that happen in-universe), although granted, those did have the benefit of being in the hall itself. If people don't want to read it, skip it. Quote
Sandy Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 Hopefully i can play without getting bashed. Welcome to the game, Windusky! I sincerely apologize for the rough start. Things can get a little... intense in this corner of EB. Honestly, though, your character can be from wherever. The only restriction I would put is not to use places from pre-established popular franchises (like Westeros, The Shire or Tatooine). Otherwise, let your imagination run wild - the others sure have! How do i know when to sign up for quests? I will post a notice to the Heroica Hall topic when I add new quests, bumping it up. Question regarding the Wolfgang ranks: are those to be added onto our Hero's names, like you would see by each calling card in the Hall and on quests, or are they only used in the Wolfgang topic thread? You can use the rank how ever you wish. Just remember that Ulric isn't ruling Eubric just yet, so the titles are meaningless for now. Sandy: Is this White, or Light Blue Grey? Flipz Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 (like...The Shire...). Great, now I'm thinking of ways to subvert the concept of The Shire the way you subvert so many fairy tales. Let's see, The Shire...the Shore...the Jar'zee Shore... ...on second thought, maybe I shouldn't pursue this line of thought anymore. Quote

Myrddyn Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Wow I saw this 'Kaliphin' thing start up this morning and didn't have time to post properly then, and now others have said basically the same thing, but I remember when I first joined here people got up to all kinds of crazy stuff and conflicted each other but it all sorted itself out. Now we think about things in much more detail, and worry about things such as "game balance" and not roleplaying other people's characters. Back in the day, you could have one fellow say his character was from somewhere, or did something, and for that player, that was the way it was, but maybe for another player it was all completely different, and the first character was just mad. And everyone else could choose for themselves which character was right, or if neither were. So, Windusky could play his character as coming from Kaliphin, and that's how things are for him, and if someone doesn't like that, well, they play their character as thinking Dr. Windus is mad and really from somewhere else. And that can be how things are for them. And Lind can do the same with whether Lind is sane or not. To some people, he's sane, and to others he's mad. But this is just, like, my opinion, man. ...Says the person whose protests against it were the reason that the Dodekube's been mostly dropped... Yeah, I'm not going to go back and find Flipz' exact protests, but if you were to say, "Lind's religion is Dodekube" and I were to say "That's stupid", that's different to if I said "Um... The Dodekube - as in, Brick Wars' Dodekube - does not exist in Heroica. You can make new gods for Heroica - just so long as they don't conflict with already existing canon - but you can't bring in other "franchises"." Because I'm saying "that's stupid", and suggesting you shouldn't do it, but I'm not saying that it's against the rules and that you can't do it. There's no reason you can't tell me to shove it, and go ahead and do whatever you want.*I'm not actually meaning to say the Dodekube is stupid, I'm just trying to say, if someone does say that, you can tell 'em to shove it. And then in my next post I talk about the importance of respect. Don't let me tell you what to do. Edited October 8, 2015 by Myrddyn Quote
Zepher Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I'd again argue that it again comes down to respect. That doesn't mean crushing creativity. We've recently had aliens with robots visit Heroica, and a new player with a stomach with a mouth built into it, and no one bitched (and for the record I'd say Kaliphin falls into that, but I hope we've moved past that by now because seriously who the hell cares who calls desert what). But if someone started to say moon elves were everywhere, we'd have a problem because that's rude to other people who play the game. Though I guess, as you said, we'd just treat them as insane. So really the lesson is people will treat you as insane if you come to the game ignoring other people. I understand that "seriousness" can sometimes seem to lack creativity, but I think that it's really just respect for creativity, and at the best of time everyone will take the dude who loves his clothes and the dude with a mouth for a stomach just as seriously as they do ancient moon elves.
