CMP Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Zane's health was based on Melville exclusively. Who was designed to be UNKILLABLE from the outset but then have his buffs stripped and give the party automatic Critical Hits on him later? Quote
Zepher Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Yeah. And balanced for a larger party than three too! Quote
Scubacarrot Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Just because someone has high stats doesn't mean that's a cheat. I'll point once more to 136. When we fought Latte, we were lucky to be saved. When he returned to a prison we were in, we got the hell out of there. We were outmatched, and it made for a far better quest. There are people out in the world more powerful than heroes. Sorry. That's just gonna be the way things are. It makes for a more dynamic game. It'd be a pretty boring quest if Guts sized everyone up and said "do what I want or I kill you". Can you imagine hosting that for four months? Can you imagine playing that for four months? That sounds like a big ol' snooze fest. Zane's health was based on Melville exclusively. So what does Guts do when he's outmatched? Could be a cool moment to see another side of the character. And we have discovered what he does. He still acts macho, and fails to change, and is stubborn to a fault. It's a strong character moment. It's not good for the quest, but it reveals a lot about him. And I'm wondering what you'd have me change. Have Zane bow down to Guts? Isn't that exactly the same as me suggesting that you change Guts to fit my characters? Or just make it so that you'd get to kill him easy peasy? If you want to go on a quest where you kill person A and then person B and then person C, I don't think I've ever advertised my quests as such. Or what? Give you even more alternates, because you didn't like the four I offered you? You can reject the choices, but once you have a certain number (get help at the expense of time, ally with Zane, take someone hostage) - life doesn't have infinite options. Neither do games. Sometimes you get a few and pick the best one. I've tried to improve on railroading by offering options, but that doesn't mean offering infinite options. I'm not angry. It's why I wanted to bring this talk into the public. You and I always butt heads, both when I host and you play, and vice versa, and I always feel like it's productive and never hostile. But I did want to have a public discourse before continuing because it had gotten to the point where I quite frankly put off checking EB because I dreaded updating that quest because I could see we were headed back to where we started. Meh, I don't think he's a cheat, but I think his stats indicate the kind of big bad guy he is, His power only indicates that this guy probably doesn't have a lawful good disposition, and Guts is always going to want to fight people he sees as evil. . That's his character. I don't think that that is so ridiculous. Wether or not he'd be succesful is a second, and definitely in a 1v1, he just won't be. That doesn't mean he won't try. If he meets someone stronger, he will find another way to get what he wants. That may include doing something else, which didn't work, or attacking under different circumstances, which is what you were on about. I think your alternate options were lacking in the sense that they seemed less doable than you make them out to be. Of course as the QM you know what you would accept and what you wouldn't, but we don't, we are limited to what we perceive as being viable options in order to get the best possible result, modified by our character's personal motivations to a degree. We weren't offered those alternates specifically either, too. (except for the get help one) What I suggest is not Zane bow down to Guts. That would be weird, especially considering Zane is clearly much stronger than Guts. I don't know what happens next, Zepher, I am not the QM. I don't know if you want to Deus Ex it, or what, but I want you to be aware that my gripe and justification both is the same thing: an alliance with Zane seemed optional, unhelpful and avoidable. Maybe it boils down again to the ancient character vs player debate. As a player, my goal is obviously to finish the quest and get my character as strong as possible, and the logical solution would be to ally with Zane because he had the other half of the map and that would have been that. But, my character is not going to do that because Zane is a dick. Quote
Sandy Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Updates to my quests will continue tomorrow, I have a christmas party at my workplace tonight. ;) Quote

Khorne Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 A letter addressed to Father Grogmas appeared. From the quality of the parchments and the type of ink used, it appears to have come from Xu. To Avalanche (Dragonfire) just for the sake of it too - Yeti Fur Coat - SP:12. Immunity to Ice, suitable for yetis only; bodywear Kinda cruel, dontcha think? Quote
Flipz Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Kinda cruel, dontcha think? Nagurre has the exact same thing. I'm trying to come up with a Grogmas Gift for everyone who's offered one for Arthur, but it's a little hard to come up with things for some of you. People have some nice suggestions going; I may end up just stealing other people's suggestions some more. Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) Kinda cruel, dontcha think? No yetis were harmed in the process. Nagurre has the exact same thing. That's the whole point of it. Edited December 12, 2015 by Purpearljellyblob Quote
Dragonfire Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Kinda cruel, dontcha think? Agreed. Although I can see the benefits of it. Looks like I'll be getting a good gift this Grogmas: either this, or the Winterbound Blade Quote
Zepher Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Hey y'all, very sorry, this is like my weekend right before finals and also the weekend we screen all the films from the semester, so I've got papers on papers and parties and screenings. So things from me may be on pause for a bit - I'll try to update tomorrow, and if not, Monday!! Thanks for hanging in there. Quote

Palathadric Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I'm having a hard time thinking of meaningful gifts to give. My mind just blanks out whenever I go to the thread. I'll try to get some more up anyway. What do you give to a man who has everything? Quote

Flipz Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) Note to self, meet less people To Arthur, Dastanese Pearl so your dragon doesn't, say, betray you to a false goddess of Chaos or something (Grants permanent immunity to hexed, confused, enamored, afraid, and enraged when used on a dragon companion, consumable) I actually really like this one, I never would have thought of something like that. Actually, to engage in a bit of mid-Quest notes, I'm really appreciating some of these Quest-earned (and, with luck, Grogmas-gifted ) abilities for Dragons. It makes a lot of sense that a dragon's individual abilities will develop according to their actual life experiences, rather than just being through their Dragoon's gear. It's a neat touch, and simultaneously rewards going through the levels to train your dragon and give them life experiences that grant them new abilities, rather than switching into the class later on when the dragon is already powerful (which has always been one of the bigger complaints levied against the class). It's really cool, and a practice that I hope continues. Edited December 13, 2015 by Flipz Quote
samurai-turtle Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Jebediahs' Gifts: Demon Germ: Self-Repairing Rubber Band (Returns thrown weapons immediately without having to be retrieved. Has a 1/6 chance of breaking per successful strike but repairs itself at the end of each quest, suitable for The Demon Germ only, Accessory ) Should I point out how use full it could be for "me". Especially now that I got (two) more throwing weapons. Makes me wonder if you got some sort inside information. Quote
