CMP Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Joining a day late is different, and Zepher was letting anyone who signed up for Quest 53 join in anyway. Joining a quest more than a month after it started, with battles completed, seems like cheating, especially considering both heroes were still in the middle of their respective quests when sign-ups closed. Sign-ups exist for a reason. It makes things straightforward, nobody feels slighted and there's no favoritism simply because there are requirements that are adhered to when they close. Letting certain heroes hop on partway into a quest doesn't sit right for a whole lot of reasons. There's a process and it doesn't seem right that certain heroes don't have to go through it. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 *Reads latest #147 update.* Oh, yeah.   I just want to say I am absolutely opposed to the idea that anyone can get around sign-ups and jump in mid-quest. I really really don't like the precedent this sets. It fits the story-line - the Dragon Lord realizes that they'll need more heroes, so he calls in more heroes.Or, think of it as sort of a second quest within a larger quest arc that all takes place in a single quest. The first quest - "Escort the Ambassadors" - was completed, with a single set of heroes. This is Part II, "Defend the City," with a lot of returning heroes, and a couple new faces. Quote
Zepher Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I think it's cool! I doubt we'll see it often. I've considered it before myself though, so maybe I'm biased. Quote
Endgame Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) I checked with Sandy before doing this, so I'm not just doing this out of the blue here. 147 was delayed for a full month to give those quests time to let out (they didn't, but hey, stuff happens!), but this was the alternative. It's not a situation that will come up often. Besides, with how many plotlines characters are entangled in and how long quests have gotten, QMs kind of have a duty now to remain flexible. Flipz Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I personally had been expecting a second round of sign-ups (not unlike what happened all the way back in Quest 17 when Spag dropped out and Brickdoctor opened replacement sign-ups), but considering I promised Endgame months ago that I'd go on his finale if given the opportunity, I think it all works out. CMP Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Besides, with how many plotlines characters are entangled in and how long quests have gotten, QMs kind of have a duty now to remain flexible. As they should be, this just feels messy to me. That's just my opinion anyway. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I can see your point and as a player that might have gone on the quest had sign-ups been allowed, I can see how it might miff some people. Though to be fair I did steal Rider Raider from the hall without sign-ups once Kappy was banned, partially because he was the only active new player in the hall and partially because I wanted to keep the flow of Quest 149 going. Sandy Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 I just want to say I am absolutely opposed to the idea that anyone can get around sign-ups and jump in mid-quest. I really really don't like the precedent this sets. I understand you in that it would have been fairer if the option to jump in was given to everyone in the form of sign-ups, but if Endgame has already agreed upon this with Flipz and Asphalt previously, then it wouldn't have made much difference. QMs are free to choose their players however they like during sign-ups, in any case. We just need more content to this game so nobody feels left out. I unfortunately cannot start my quest until I get this water leak repair thing out of the way... Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 The thought-reading and sensing of life essences are fairly standard for Dragons of primarily Dastanian descent. Miirym and I were recently in Dastan, and my old friend Vipera was gracious enough to begin Miirym's training in the Dragons' spiritual ways--it is why you are all able to comprehend Miirym's speech... Is this a set rule? Do Hatchlings have to be trained, before they can speak to Humans? Quote
Flipz Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Is this a set rule? Do Hatchlings have to be trained, before they can speak to Humans? No, but they do have to be trained before they can cast Luck/Blessed/Inspired on teammates. Quote
StickFig Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Matthias will be gaining some as well with his two ancient artifacts! ... I'm excited to see how the abilities play out. I'm hoping they'll add some more options to the game, but don't totally over-burden it. I think that Hope's and Regret's blessings were a good test drive - too powerful for normal settings, but they made the battles more dynamic. Ooooooh, cool! ...Okay, I need to go on a Zepher quest. Who doesn't? Quote
Flipz Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I personally played it as Miirym speaking spiritually was extremely draining as a hatchling, but as a youngling her spiritual potential has increased significantly (especially after Vipera's training). As an adult, it will naturally increase even further (and this is demonstrated mechanically in the success rate of the ability increasing by 1/6 for every growth stage). Quote

Replacing a player is a completely different situation. I understand you in that it would have been fairer if the option to jump in was given to everyone in the form of sign-ups, but if Endgame has already agreed upon this with Flipz and Asphalt previously, then it wouldn't have made much difference. I was just pointing it out for the future, I didn't expect this to be something that could be changed immediately. Quote
Flipz Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Matthias will be gaining some as well with his two ancient artifacts! I wrote them out, but then the editor crashed. I'm hoping to power through most everyone else's stats over the next 48 hours. It's such a pain in the behind. I'm excited to see how the abilities play out. I'm hoping they'll add some more options to the game, but don't totally over-burden it. I think that Hope's and Regret's blessings were a good test drive - too powerful for normal settings, but they made the battles more dynamic. It works like you've described it! I wanted to give you a reward for going out on a limb . And it shouldn't be too wild - we average about 3 quests a year per hero at this point (if they're lucky) so it's not crazy powerful. The Hope and Regret blessings were absolutely perfect for a battle of that caliber, and I do hope they show up again. They did a lot to make the fight fair and winnable, which in turn helped the battle be really big and have really high stakes without being too overly difficult. It would NOT have been fun to have to deal with Raijin and that vampire that used Smokescreen the whole time, so being able to OHKO with careful Blessing use went a long way towards keeping things enjoyable. Lind Whisperer Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 "...And honestly guys, I wouldn't be surprised if Immortalis is tired. I think he knows he is walking down a short path with his potential death at it's end. I think he knows he will die. Following the loss of his son, suicide by hero squadron." I'm pretty sure Endgame made a post confirming Immortalis won't die during #147. He might still be a boss battle, but i don't believe he's going to die. Also, I would like to apologize if any of Lind's cracks have been over the line. There's a fine line between friendly, (occasionally perverted) banter between quest-mates, and harassment/just being a jerk, and I'm still figuring out just where the one becomes the other. My honest apologies. Quote
