OK, Dak's range of mental issues: Traumatized childhood, Split personality disorder, Amnesia... Wanna bet on what's next?

Is it wrong that he sounds like a Batman villain to me? The split personality alone allows for Two Face and the 1960's Batman series' King Tut, and possibly others I don't know as well.

Wait, does this mean that De'kra is the Scarecrow? He does have bare a slight resemblance.

Sounds more like Tropeitis. :wink::rofl:

First two unremembered as a result of the third.

Really, though, I'm trying to get Dak back the way I want him here. I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking when I gave him a split personality, so I'm just trying to undo what's been done in Quest #13, and the best way I could think of doing it was amnesia, since all my prior attempts to get rid of his problems failed miserably. Sorry if you feel like I'm copying your character, Tanma, but it was just the best way I could think to get rid of Dak's prior problems without restarting with a new character.

We should have a page there. I think we have acquired another tropes by now if a quota is needed.

it is fine, sometimes we do crazy things that we later have to Retcon. Case in point, the first time I ever participated in an RPG (three years ago or so) my race had antimatter swords. Antimatter swords.

I have a solution for those on Quest 19, the best way to find out which Felton is real is to have a race. It worked for the Autobots.

I was thinking a fight to the death... :innocent:

Theoretically the real Felton should have more combat experience and instinct.

No wait, this is a shell game! Like in the classic web comic Order of the Stick. Wren won't give you a 50-50 chance of victory if she can give you a zero chance of victory. Both Feltons are impostors!

"You call yourself a Rogue? What's next, we are going to help old women cross the road? We, sharing our gold? Leaving an oppertunity to cut a purse?"

Guts raises his hands in frustration and walks off, grumbling under his breath:

"Demon-spawn hell-bred shades... I need a drink."

I say Scubacarrot get's XP for good roleplaying :rofl:

OOC: poor short sighted Guts, if you want to manipulate someone, you must first gain their trust. You have to seem like you care about their problems and tell enough of the truth that they believe your stories. You have to help them, give them support and advice, all the while giving them more reason to trust you. Perhaps give them subtle hints to do your goals, but make sure thatthey think they thought of it. And then one day you will have them totally in your power.

But that isn't De'kra's plan. He also isn't intentionally messing with Guts, he honestly doesn't know those words, and honestly is trying to help Dak.

Guts does not want to manipulate Dak, he just wants to mess with his head a little, for fun.

And if he keeps it up he'll get a sound whack from mah shovel!:tongue:

This is why you don't give you're character amnesia, one minute yer a top of the line hero, the next yer reduced to a defeated head gaurd who has to give all his loot to his former questmates as penance for his "wicked" deeds.

As soon as I read that I felt the urge to do this. Ignore it if you want

Greetings Roleplayers, I De'kra again here to talk on amnesia. Amnesia useful for roleplaying, and add element of mystery to character. What their past? Why they forget? Might they chose to forget? It also allow you to start character from blank slate, so you create character as story flow. Many classic characters have amnesia, like angry-claw-man that comic series use too much, fairy-associate and name of girl god (it no last), and mad man with blue box. (man with blue box later assistant have amnesia too, otherwise she blow up)

But it need known that amnesia not for everyone. Might amnesia use to much trope becomes old and overused, no longer special. Amnesia also might lead to people manipulate and twist you character, in ways you no want. Amnesia might create character development, but might also destroy all development you have till now. Recent study show that other tropes equal or better than amnesia for character development, and sometimes more creative. Heel Face Turn and Face Heel Turn both classics, as chicken-rogue show well. (might De'kra read his posts right) As an amnesic I no like not knowing past, it make I feel vulnerable and little scared. All in all amnesia not for everyone, consult you local healer before using amnesia. Remember before use amnesia, what would Spock/Data enact? (next week De'kra talk about how it bad to destroy fourth wall, might it not get repair in time)

Tanma, I would LOVE it if De'kra randomly wrote stuff like that in the magic book...

EDIT:

Agreed! That's something I've been trying to figure out for my own Star Trek RPG, as some of my current players aren't really fans of fighting, so I need a way to integrate good roleplaying into the "stat" system. I think I have something good set up, but I'll have to see how it goes.

Is Heel Face Turn the name of a trope, or more of De'kra's weird way of talking? In any case, I've been told never to go to TvTropes, so I'll pass. :look:

Genius, Tanma! :classic:

If it was genius I would have found a way to referance 8-bit theater, they used amnesia as a weapon there. And for anyone who saw me the day when the epilogue was released, those weren't tears I was sweating through my eyes.

Tanma, I would LOVE it if De'kra randomly wrote stuff like that in the magic book...

it doesn't really fit his character though. Still if I can find a way for him to give a PSA I will if you care to know. And knowing is half the battle.

Yes it is from there, and it probably is a good idea to avoid it lest you get absorbed. So many hours lost there...

Heel Face Turn is when a bad guy turns good. It's a wrestling term.

Oh. Well, there's still more reasoning behind that. Actually, it's over there, by that chicken seed...

Arthur thinks for a moment. "I think we're here so we aren't alone. I don't believe that the gods control our destiny any more than one person can control their own fate. Rather, it's by the connections we make that we change the future." He pauses, trying to choose his next words carefully. "I don't think we can make a difference, Althior, at least not the way most people think of it. In the ultimate scheme of things, we're just tiny cogs in a great machine. We can't change the world...but we can change each other. If I can bring even a little joy to just one person's life, then I face death gladly; that's all the difference I need to make." He turns his head toward Althior. "I envy you, you know. I see what you have with Alexis. That's more than a little joy you've brought to her, my friend, it's a veritable flood. And if it's the darkness you're concerned about..." he glances at Althior's hand. "Dark and Light are opposites. Dark and Good are not. Dark is not evil, and light is not good. Look at the Hinckwells. Almost everyone in Heroica sees them as light, good, heroic, even saint-like. To some, the Hinckwells can do no wrong. And yet, even more than the Shadeaux or even the Brobric, they are responsible for this war. Their greed and secrecy allowed evil to flourish. I doubt even the god of wealth everyone on this island seems to worship would see that as right. And look at Heroica's rogues, like De'kra and Atramor. Their profession is as dark as can be, and yet they are among Heroica's most honorable Heroes, truly living up to that name."

Silence spread across that part of the fort like a mist. Both Mages heard the shouts of others below as the Lion Knights and the other Heroes prepared for the next battle. After some time, Arthur again turns to Althior. "I wish that none of this had happened. That none of this warfare were needed. That the Lion Knights could be spending their strength growing food for the hungry rather than gearing up for war. That Heroica were unnecessary, that the people of Eubric had the courage and honor to deal with their problems on their own. I bet you wish that Mark had never appeared on your hand, but that is not for us to decide. All we can do is decide what to do with the time that is given us. Don't lose hope, Althior. Even though Heroes like us can't do much on our own, one raindrop raises the sea. Few realize this within their entire lifetime. Even Heroes die, not knowing how much they've given to those around them. You've given far more than you realize, Althior. Take solace in that." Arthur returns his gaze to the horizon, thinking in silence once more.

This is one of the most moving quotes I've read in Heroica so far. It almost reminds me of something Gandhi would say.

So do all, who live to see such times, but it is not for us to decide...all there is to decide is what to do in the time that is given to us.

Fairly well-hidden quote, Flipz.
