Dunno what it is about this battle, but something about it has just "clicked" in my brain. Unlike a lot of the "big" battles recently, I'm just sort of inherently "seeing" the ideal strategies, the way I used to, rather than having to take hours to calculate and strategize. Yay? :look:

My battles are typically designed to be "If you have a good strategy, you can handle them with ease, if you don't, they will stomp all over you", so maybe my philosophy is finally working.

Or maybe I just made this one too easy. :poke:

Welp. Images are vanishing again. I assume Photobucket is trying to fix something.

I wouldn't say it's too easy, just intuitive. Screw this redirect BS, though, it's extremely obnoxious to strategize around and there's not even a game mechanic designed to counteract it. :poke:

I was hesitant to include it, but it fits Charon's personality and method of fighting far too well.

I'm getting it for Flickr-hosted images as well...

Nope, Sandy is even hosting Hybros' avatar picture.

Update: They're back for me now and Andras' picture is finally normal.

If both Andras and Camio are defeated, he attacks Uvall with Iustitia and himself with the Sword of Ancestral Hatred.

Ever wonder what happens when a Marauder targets himself and an enemy in the same turn?

I actually sold that for a Phoenix Essence a long while back. I think I got, what, one redirect out of it, ever? Back in the day when you got two Artifacts, period, and SP on Artifacts was nearly unheard of, Cloak of Deception plus Lens of Speed-Reading made a decent combo. The Cloak effect didn't come into play that often, but it was something to use against Free Hits whereas otherwise I'd have nothing. Once Artifact stacking started to become a thing, though, SP and immunity ended up being more important to a squishy mage than a 1/6 chance to stop Free Hits, and then the Artifact that even lets me be a decent tank is backwear, meaning I can't really use the Cloak of Deception at all, especially since it only affects Free Hits (as opposed to something like Nimble that has both a higher trigger chance and works on Damage and Counter rolls as well).

Besides, that's replicating the effect, not counteracting it. :poke:

So I recently rediscovered my love for making brickfilms and it made me wonder if anyone had incorporated brickfilms into the quests. I know someone tried to do it in a mafia game a looong time ago. I certainly don't have time to do it for my next quest, but what are people's thoughts? Too much effort for too little reward? Too much of time consumption? An interesting way to have a quest?

Here and here, the issue is it's very time consuming if you want to do it well, plus it takes a whole lot more planning. Instead of scenes that simply portray a piece of the story you have to plan out the actions of the scene, then you have to decide if you're going to incorporate dialog, then you find that not only do you have to build scenery but you have to build it in such a way that it doesn't interfere with the action of the scene, i.e. you have to keep studs available for walking, doors actually have to be able to open, etc. It's a tough challenge and maybe one I'll be up trying again at some point, but for now I'm reserving more of my efforts to planning other stories.

Which reminds me of a Heroica-related brickfilm we were supposed to see this year. :look:

Production has been pushed back due to disagreements about acting contracts.:laugh: No really, I'm intending at one point or another to really put some work into it, just got to get the motivation.

So things have definitely slowed down a lot. I'd certainly like to keep this game going, so I guess I'll encourage the newer players to consider hosting. I'm guilty myself of not hosting very much - 151 is my fourth quest hosting (first in about 100 quests or three years), and I have been one of the most active players since the game started, which means I've been taking up quest slots consistently for five years. My excuse is that I don't have the time or access to bricks to do it. The first is valid but the second one is not. 151 uses 90% recycled pictures, and I actually didn't need my bricks for any of it (shoutout to Sandy for the imp pictures!). It's not ideal, but doable. You could also use LDD like Endgame.

And hosing is fun. It really is! New players should take the dive and try it. It's not as hard as it looks and it's okay to make mistakes. We're all here to have fun, after all. :sweet:

Thanks for doing all the research! But more so, this is a great encouragement. I know I'm in worse shoes than you as far as the benefit I've personally recieved from everyone's hard work and how much I've put back in. I'm probably the quietest person in all the threads, and have been lurking around for years just enough to not get archived. Personally, this game and playing one season of DnD in person, opened up a lot of fun times in DMing for some of my best friends. So I really owe you guys a lot.

As far as giving back to the heroica community, in hosting a quest... how often are quests co-hosted? I know I've talked to Flipz a little about it before, followed by me classically getting busy with iron builder or moving or something... And ironically, we're about to move again. But, I truly want to back to the Heroica world, and we've a whole bunch of WIPs that have slowly evolved over the years and have yet to see the light of day. Anyways, I'd love to start, and restart any conversations with people who might be interested in potentially co-hosting a quest with me?

Co-hosting isn't too rare!

And I've seen some of your builds, Siercon, and while they are incredible, to make a whole Heroica quest with top notch stuff like that would be insanity. Half of all sets used in Heroica are one wall with minifigs standing in front of it.

I would actually love to sign up for some insanity ;)

Pretty sure I've got a solid grasp on volume, and 'scene' : 'full moc' ratio. Obviously the last thing I'd want is to bog the quest with elaborate builds over fluid and frequent story. Which puts me to thinking "finish most of the quest pior to starting"...?

DnD I usually do open world, but here it would seem that with the builds, a more funneled dungeon approach might be better?

I would welcome a quest with full-blown MOCs with open arms! We already have quite a few talented builders in Heroica and it's always a treat having their creations on quests (speaking of which I miss BrickDoctor and Etzel...). There is also this thread which I think has been forgotten about. Some really awesome and inspirational builds there! We should have that contest again.

You an definitely have your sets ready before you start the quest. I've done it in the past and find it's been the easiest way. The only disadvantage is that you can't change anything if you let your heroes go off of the "script" a bit more than usual.

I second that request. Maybe Sandy and you and the Fellows who play here can start talking to the right people? We are coming up on the Anniversary again, after all...

I'm pre-building my sets (or more accurately, having my sets pre-built for me  ) for both my upcoming Diana Quest and the upcoming Darius/Wolfgang/Charis Quest. My trick is that I'm trying to keep the action relatively vague, so the same pics can be used for multiple scenarios. I'm also stealing as many pre-existing sets as possible (my apologies in advance to Zepher and WBD  ), so long as they don't have NPCs there that shouldn't be (i.e. people who are canonically dead *cough*gates of Carn*cough*). Where I can, I'm actually planning to take a few "blank" pics of some locations, filled only with unnamed NPCs, so that other QMs can re-use them as needed; I'm sure many other QMs (including me  ) would greatly appreciate if that becomes a common practice. (*cough*Pie's Baltarok sets*cough*)

EDIT: Bah, grammar. :hmpf_bad::blush:

It's up to you. Open world can be done but you have to be willing to either build every single location available to the party (ala quest 130 or 132) or stay one step ahead of the party (very time consuming), it does however free you to let the party do its own thing (which may be good or bad depending on how motivated the party is). Building out every scene allows you to update quickly and always have everything prepared, but it means you have to work hard at keeping your party on track either by enticement (there's treasure this way) or punishment (TPK if you go this way). Personally, I tend to build some of the main scenes of the quest and then fill in the rest with smaller stuff as the quest unfolds.
