For those of you who have been chosen for my quest that have already been on one... My quest isn't easy. I wanted some more experienced players mixed in, so I have half level ones and half semi-vets. Have fun in the cave, it's going to be good. default_devg1.gif

Crap.

In the case of throwing weapons, it would be smartest to hold another weapon ready, since the throwing weapons need to be retrieved in order to use again (which means during battle, you'll lose a turn for that). They are automatically returned to you once the battle ends, though.

So, just to get this straight, if I (a rogue) throw a throwing weapon from the back row, I'll inflict regular damage (not halved)? And then, if I have another weapon, I can switch to using it the next round and then do what I want?

If so, then it would be the advantage that rogues needed. In my experience from the last quest, Rogues are the weakest class (and I find the Flee ability a bit useless, since if the party needs to flee they can just use a smoke bomb), while the other classes have more special abilities that can deal more damage, protect, et cetera.

By the way, I'm not complaining, I love this game. I just hope that I am providing constructive criticism that will be helpful. Also, wanting an advantage given to rogues is kind of ironic on my part, since I pointed out the flaw with letting them have regular ranged weapons.

That's the trouble with a proper balance, I guess, but the game works quite well in my opinion. Though I have to agree about fleeing, it doesn't really help. :sceptic:

Yes.

And rogues are not exactly weak, but they are a "selfish" job class. They can get more money than others with their Mug, and they can attempt to flee and thus keep their remaining health in dire situations even if the others fall. The advanced job classes derived from rogue only add to this self-centeredness, as you will eventually see.

I'd like to have The Mug ability myself. :) It offsets the cost of all the venom rogues buy to keep up their damage contribution. The extra coin also eases the pain of buying multiple throwing weapons. I'm looking forward to seeing Hybros in action with his new shuriken as he seems to be the only hero brave enough to accept the challenge of using throwing weapons. Rogue seems to be one of the most powerful classes once you fill your bag of tricks.

I have a question, though it has no bearing on me. Let's say you want to use an identified enemy race, like a Bugbear, as your character's race. Could you do this? I assume this would require backstory to explain differing stats between your character and it's race.

If you're part of an enemy race, you could probably say you were exiled by your race or something like that.

Well, as a player of a race that is typically part of the "bad guys" I can say: yes, playing as an identified "enemy" race is allowed and I would even encourage it to a point since it gives a good bit of variety to the game. The stat's part of previously encountered enemies really doesn't bear to much on one's individual character, for example the orc knight Cronk's stats are not based upon the "Orc Leader" character found in the Bestiary topic. Now of course one is free to give a backstory and all to one's character but some people may just choose to pick a random race and play it like there is no distinction at all between their race and someone elses. Part of this all goes into the debate of even the existence of "evil" races, but I don't think we all want to debate that

If evil doesn't exist, what will Cronk bash?

Seriously, though, a major point of characterization is that no one believes themselves to be evil (unless they're seriously deranged). Just about every good fictional villain in existence has reasons for doing evil things that are perfectly justified to themselves. It's all about motivation. Doesn't matter what race you choose to play. If your character has no reason to do evil things, they're not evil.

Pretty much my point exactly. Don't worry I'm sure there will be plenty of egotistical self-righteously motivated "evils" for Cronk to bash. It wouldn't be Heroica without Cronk's evil bashing :classic:

The others are absolutely right: you can play any race you want regardless of their affiliation (except undead, unless you accept that the mechanics involved with undead monsters do not apply to you). The races are not bound by the statistics of their individuals. I am sure we will see "Elder Bugbears" of Level 17 or something like that later on.

Also, the heroes are most likely to fight individual elves, dwarves and other so-called "good" races at some point, because good and evil are mostly subjective concepts to a point. To me, the best fantasy novels have been the ones that have accepted this truth about subjectivity, and I hope Heroica RPG will follow that truth as well.

Speaking of undead...

Ellaria can't help but to scream in fear as she sees the skeleton pop up from the coffin.

"Oh no, an undead monster! P-please listen, everyone! This creature cannot be harmed by normal attacks, only elemental ones and healing.

Where's that Sword of Bashing Evil? Can't trust an orc to show up when you need him. :-P

If anything is incorrect here, please, don't hesitate to tell me. This is the first battle I've hosted, so I expect some mistakes. Thanks!

I think you did one small mistake, the bomb Alexis threw was a Lightning bomb (see the post where she bought it) which would be equivalent of a mage using a Topaz for a spell, and that isn't an elemental weakness of the Undead, that would require a Holy bomb, which would be equivalent of a mage using a Diamond for a spell. So the Undead Nobleman should be at 23 (30-(2+5)) health now, not 18. :classic:

Cool logo and a cool name! A desert themed quest? Nice to see more variety in the settings!

Sounds interesting. Looks almost like a desert. Is there a desert on Eubric? :sceptic:

"East of the Crystalline Sea lies another continent that contains for example the Dastan Empire. Beyond that lies another sea and more continents. This is a vast world we live in, with many uncharted territories and unsailed waterways. Sentient species even stranger than yours or mine can be found in the distant corners of the world. All we can do is explore more and more, but I believe there will always be new secrets to uncover."

The world is wider than just Eubirc.

Thank you very much, Quarryman! I got them confused. Like I said, this is my first host, so I'm bound to make mistakes. :classic:

Speaking of mistakes, if someone's intended target is defeated before they have a chance to strike, they should automatically target the next available monster. I believe you did not do this in Althior's case in our battle. That means some other monster should have damaged Althior instead.

Don't worry, you'll surely get the hang of hosting battles in a few rounds.

Also, if UsernameMDM does not show up in the quest soon, you can choose to either kick him out or keep him as a "silent companion" to aid the party like I did with Lego Pinocchio in Quest#1. Gawd I hate how some people sign into games, stealing a spot from someone else, and then do not bother to even play in them.

DON'T DO THAT!
