Rumble Strike Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I don't see anything "boring" about Tarn. He's just a simple person, that's all. Thanks, I think Quote

Tanma Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Tanma, Maybe read my posts more careful, you are completely off with your analysis of Guts Am I? Don't forget that De'kra and me are not the same person, we see things differently. Don't assume I have any theories on Guts yet. Still, Guts getting annoyed every time De'kra exists isn't helping his case. It isn't like he has encountered what De'kra is before, since the only other one is an NPC of mine, so he has no troubled past excuse. And if we think about it, threatening a teammate who has some levels on you in front of the rest of the good-aligned team is not something a smart person would do, unless you were too angry to think things through. Rumble Strike Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I am trying to add a bit of flavour to Tarn's speech patterns; after reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy recently and also watching the Spartacus series, I am just trying to give him a bit more of an olden time warrior feel. Quote
CMP Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I had an idea for an effect. Crippled - The target's level is halved (rounded down) until the effect is remedied or the battle has ended. Sometimes the best defense is completely screwing over your opponent's offense... Quote

CMP Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Nice idea, but it won't affect level ones like me and ( ) Monk Preztel. If we can kill an undead necromancer with a WP of 0, you can kill a few bugs and rats with a level of 0... Well, it's a powerful effect, so level 1s probably won't be on any quests with anyway. If so, I'm sure you'd've at least won one battle already. Quote
Kadabra Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Also, Slowed: Character acts once every other turn, and Demoralized: Power is halved would work as counterparts to Hastened and Encouraged. Quote
CMP Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Demoralized: Power is halved would work as counterparts to Hastened and Encouraged. That's basically what I was trying to get Crippled to go at, but power is difficult to halve, since power doesn't directly apply to aims, critical hits, or shields, while level has a hand in all of them. (Save for a few shields.) Quote

Palathadric Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Nice idea, but it won't affect level ones like me and ( ) Monk Preztel. Why wouldn't it effect us? Our level is cut in half, just like a person at level 3's power will also be cut in half. Why did you mention Monk Pretzel in particular? There are several other level 1 fellows around. Oh, he must be famous! Perhaps it's because he has kept his #1 status for so long, despite being in a quest. I wonder, is it a good thing? If we can kill an undead necromancer with a WP of 0, you can kill a few bugs and rats with a level of 0... Well, it's a powerful effect, so level 1s probably won't be on any quests with anyway. If so, I'm sure you'd've at least won one battle already. So is Monk Pretzel the bug or the rat, I wonder? Furthermore, ha! Already have won one battle indeed, not by the way it's looking here. Waterbrick Down Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I've got to say I'm laughing my head off reading Monk Pretzel's replies, they are just too perfect. I actually enjoy how people are adding different dimensions to their characters, steering away from the stereotypes that the majority of others have played into according to their class. We are really starting to see some tension develop between heroes in both quests 20 and 24, I know we all want everyone to get along and I have no doubt that the players themselves do, but I think inter- character conflicts adds a deeper level of realism to the world of Heroica. So if you're playing an annoying or darker character, keep up the good job I like reading your posts but take care that you don't abuse the power to act like a mean or annoying character to actually be a mean or annoying player. To those interacting with these characters, remember that not everybody plays for the gaming aspect (i.e. win a lot of gold, defeat all the enemies, and get to the highest level), so an annoying or dark character in game doesn't always equal an annoying or dark player out of game that is trying to ruin your or your party's quest experience. In conclusion of this little rant on roleplaying, I can't wait for the chance to actually quest with some of you in character. It may be a while since I'm focusing on developing my next quest first, before signing up for another one, but one day Skrall will interact with you. Kadabra, those are great effects and if it's alright, I may utilize some of them in my upcoming quest. Quote
Palathadric Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Thank you kindly, "Waterbrick Down". I just would like to know exactly in what ways I am steering away from the stereotype? I am really interested in knowing this. It's a good point that you brought up and that we should keep in mind, though, that we are, for the most part I am sure, not the characters we portray in the RPG and to remember that annoying Monks may have really nice puppeteers. Waterbrick Down Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 In your case, most clerics have tended towards the gentler more calming persona of a healer. Monk Pretzel is more of a fiesty zealot first and healer second. Quote
Flipz Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Waterbrick, agreed, there's a lot of Heroes I'd like to Quest with. I'm focusing on the Arthur-De'kra-Cinna-Tomas group right now because it makes sense for both Arthur and De'kra, and I'm focusing on Arthur-Atramor because of Atramor's impending class change and a chance for Arthur to interact with McCafferey, plus Atramor is the only Rouge-like Rogue he knows (De'kra is more complex than that, and offers a different side of the Rogue coin), so Atramor would be an ideal influence to push him toward Sorcerer. (Come to think of it, Nur would, too...OK, we have a party: Arthur, Cinna, Tomas, De'kra, Atramor, Nur; now someone write a Quest for it! ) Once I've set Arthur down his path, there's still a lot of people I want to Quest with. Cronk, Skrall, Boomingham, Tensi, Dyric, Nyx...the list just goes on and on. And then there's the specific plot threads--Arthur NEEDS to meet Wren, and interactions with Lyren Hinckwell and Nuitan Shadeaux would allow him to continue the development of distrusting Houses but maintaining distinct loyalty to specific individuals within that House. I also want him to meet the Zeigfrieds (aside from Valentine ), and the Ji Pei as well. Gosh, when I list it all out like that, it's a lot to do, isn't it! EDIT: Ooh! I just thought of a way to get the Orc and the Wolfgang guy out of the prison (Quest 23) without having to murder guards! It'd take a clever cover story and a bit of gold, though... It'd take a clever cover story and a bit of gold, though... I really don't know whether this would be such a good idea. However nice he seems, he still is a criminal and a member of one of the most dangerous gangs in Eubrick, so if they release him and are found out, they may be putting all of Heroica Hall in danger. Not that there is too much to worry about. Quote
Flipz Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I really don't know whether this would be such a good idea. However nice he seems, he still is a criminal and a member of one of the most dangerous gangs in Eubrick, so if they release him and are found out, they may be putting all of Heroica Hall in danger. Not that there is too much to worry about. Arthur says: "What HAVE the Wolfgang done, besides showing up the Town Watch for their corruption and incompetence? Heck, their example biased the Heroes of Quest 19 against the side of right, leading them to trust the Wren-supported Rebels instead of the righteous Captain McColt. The Shadeaux are much more dangerous and menacing, and yet I don't see other Heroes turning against them out of anything other than convenience (since the Shadeaux seem to be severely underrepresented in Quests). It's all a matter of perspective, and I believe a directly "bad" faction that the Heroes can face openly would be much better for Eubric than a corrupt Town Watch that they supposedly serve, but really should oppose. There is a Plane in which a great, heroic Knight of mystic power, who leads an entire Order of his fellows, reminisced that he lost his effectiveness when the line between good ally and evil enemy blurred. Enemies were righteous in cause, and allies fell into evil, and by the time the Sky Walker realized the truth, his entire world had been irreparably changed. His battles against an evil Empire were more clear-cut--and thus, more successful--than his Quest to maintain peace between the good friends who valued freedom first and the elected government who sought order, eventually caving to evil and seeking order at any cost. The hazy moral situation led the great Knight and his fellows to uncertainty and confusion, and the Knight's own nephew fell to darkness, eventually killing the Knight's wife and destabilizing the galaxy before his twin sister was forced to bring him to final justice. Is that truly the fate we want to befall Eubric? I say no. Enemies we shall always have, but let us percieve them clearly, seeing them in their true, shadowy form, rather than allowing our foes to force us to penetrate their cunning disguise as they walk among us in the light, allowing them time to further their insidious plans and strengthen their wicked position."
