Sisco Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Huzzah! New (well, fairly new) computer is set up and ready to go! In fact, I'm typing on it as we speak! So good to be back... So much I need to catch up on... Which I will do tomorrow when I get home tomorrow evening. If you didn't catch the message, I'm back! But I'll talk tomorrow. Quote

Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 A small note to Sandy: if it's okay with you, I think you can forward our Quest. I emboldened my answer . Unless you want to hear the others' opinions/reactions, of course. Both is fine with me, I just wanted to let you know we (I ) made our decision. Apparently a few days back, there was a discussion about what actor would be good to play your character in a hypothetical movie. I wasn't really able to post back then, since I was too busy with the whole Mitgardian elections shennanigans (which I won, WOOT! ). I did read that some would suggest Gerard Butler to play Eric. A lovely choice, but with his (legendary) portrayal of King Leonidas still burned into my eyelense, I would have to say he lacks a certain finesse, "coldness" and brains to play Eric. Therefore my suggestion would be the actor I based Eric on in the first place: Alexander Skarsgård. Oh, and I really loved the suggestion for Boomingham. Brian Blessed looks perfect . Quote
Rumble Strike Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Boomingham is just a legend! Great roleplay there, and Hoke did really well too. There's a sitcom beckoning for Hoke, Boomers and Barty! Quote
Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Thanks for the great quest Sandy ! My pockets have never been filled with this much gold before . I also love that, even though we didn't kill Jolly Roger, the quest is still succesful. Looks like Quest #6 remains the only failed one . Quote

Poison Ivy Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Meh, I don't see it as failed, the heroes did what the employer wanted, right? You would say that, you were on it! The QM said that it was failed, so I consider it failed. EDIT: Maurice said "Hinckley" instead of "Hinckwell". Intentional on Etzel's part? Edited March 13, 2012 by Poison Ivy Quote
Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) "Now I will return my part of the Hinckley's wares and I urge you others to do the same. It's not nearly enough to make up for the unjust choices you've done but it's a step on the way." Whoops, already sold them . I agree with my quest mates: it was a fun quest and great working together, even though our characters probably think otherwise . Too bad it ended that way, Eric really respected Maurice up until that last stretch. He was (and still is) really jealous of Maurice's blessed stance with his god. EDIT: Sandy, what do I do with all those keys from the Quest? Can I just delete them from my inventory? I don't think I can sell them, can I? Edited March 13, 2012 by Khorne Quote
Scorpiox Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Eric continued his path. He was one sorry Viking. Back at home his friends would have mocked him already for looking like the dog he was. It was a well-known fact that Vikings were vain people, combing their hair and washing themselves often. These practices were often the butt of jokes made by other peoples, but the Northerners didn't really mind. Eric decided he would do something about his filthy and ragged appearance as soon as he completed his other tasks. He patted his goldpurse, filled to the brim with coin. The Nord smirked. Really? I was always aware that real Norse culture didn't involve much clenliness. Aaaanyway. Excited to see Raider Eric! Edited March 13, 2012 by Scorpiox Quote
Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Really? I was always aware that real Norse culture didn't involve much clenliness. But Heroica Norse are only based on the real Norse, not everything needs to be an exact copy . All joking aside, though, yes it is true that Vikings were cleaner than their European medieval counterparts. It is a common misconception that a Viking was a long-haired smelling savage. Many warriors even had a personal comb that was part of their equipment in battle. They were cleaner than the Western-Europeans, but compared to the Muslim standards of that time they were still kind of dirty. Muslims washed more times a day (for prayer and stuff) while Vikings washed only once a day and all shared the same bowl of water. Medieval Europeans only washed once a week . Quote

I am pretty sure Queen Elizibeth of Englan washed 4 times a year and that was above averege for Europeans, but that is slightly latter Quote

I am a bit of a history nerd, so sorry if I keep bashing your stuff, I don't mean to. I know that medieval European people washed very little, (many had their yearly bath in the summer) so I got the feeling that it wasn't very different in Scandinavia. Yeah I do know a fair bit about Norse culture, (obviously not their washing habits! ) so maybe I should be more of a nerd about their bathing instead of their religion, conflict and civilisation! Thank you, one learns something new everyday. Now I need to interact with Eric again. Quote
Etzel Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Sometimes medieval Europeans washed less than that, depending on the availability of water in their area. The moral: Wash like a Viking, not a Crusader! The Crusaders learned quite quickly the tradition of bathing and washing from the eastern cultures so those weren't the dirtiest ones during the medieval time. They also brought the idea with them home and the hygiene actually got worse later during the 14-15th century. I am a bit of a history nerd, so sorry if I keep bashing your stuff, I don't mean to. Thank you, one learns something new everyday. Now I need to interact with Eric again. For the Viking's wahsing habits, consult Ibn Fadlan: They cannot, of course, avoid washing their faces and their heads each day, which they do with the filthiest and most polluted water imaginable. I shall explain. Every day the slave-girl arrives in the morning with a large basin containing water, which she hands to her owner. He washes his hands and his face and his hair in the water, then he dips his comb in the water and brushes his hair, blows his nose and spits in the basin. There is no filthy impurity which he will not do in this water. When he no longer requires it, the slave-girl takes the basin to the man beside him and he goes through the same routine as his friend. She continues to carry it from one man to the next until she has gone round everyone in the house, with each of them blowing his nose and spitting, washing his face and hair in the basin. Quote

It's not really mine, since it's an RPG we can all shape its people . I'm glad I could enlighten you on this forgotten aspect of Norse culture . Quote
Scubacarrot Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It is very interesting for me when there are moral choices like that in Quest 15, it makes me think what Guts would do (He would have sided with Maurice, since despises pirates). And also it gets me thinking how Guts would react to other heroes, he is very outspoken, and has an opinion on most heroes. I want Guts to follow up on his hostility towards Eric, they are so different! That goes for a lot of heroes, to be honest, I think a lot of cool stuff can happen. But that reminds me, I need to finish my backstory-mocs before Guts finishes his quest(although I don't think that is for a bit ) Bottomline: More moral choices, please, QM's! Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Not quite as epic as some of the other Lvl 15 transitions, but here's Dak as a Black Knight: Quote

Khorne Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I want Guts to follow up on his hostility towards Eric, they are so different! Not that different, they're both really stubborn and arrogant. That'll probably make future contact more than a bit difficult . None will want to bow down to the other . Quote
The_Customizer Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Well, I must say, deciding how to solve the problem in Quest 15, really had me down, I wasn't sure if i wanted it one way or the other, however, I think we made the right decision in the end. And thank you for taking charge of the situtation and just saying we would let him live, imagine if we had killed him, only to see his niece (?) walk up to us with his blood on ours hands... That would have been bad. Quote
