Brickdoctor Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 ... I just got the most hilarious mental image of the rug swallowing itself. And some folk think unto this dayThat burglars stole that pair away! But the truth about the cat and pup Is this: They ate each other up! Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Confused enemies can't attack themselves. Yes, they can. If there's only one enemy in a battle and it is Confused, if it rolls to damage an ally, it damages itself. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yes, they can. If there's only one enemy in a battle and it is Confused, if it rolls to damage an ally, it damages itself. Where did you find this? And: That does not make any sense. Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Where did you find this? And: That does not make any sense. I'm reminded of the pokemon system, where confused pokemon hurt themselves. So if we interpret an oppenent that is hexed may attack itself then from the wording I think we can give the same meaning to confused. In any case, I'll be treating it as it can attack itself should the bear roll damage or special damage, though it won't swallow itself. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I'm just saying, the description of confused only says something about allies, and from a logic point of view: How likely is it someone would hit himself with his own arrow, his own weapon. Oh, and let's please not try to do anything to make Heroica like Pokemon... Quote

Oh, and let's please not try to do anything to make Heroica like Pokemon... I'm not attempting to turn Heroica into pokemon, I just believe that this is where the opinion that a confused enemy can attack itself is coming from. As to being hit by their own arrow, let's just say the probability of a confused enemy's arrow ricocheting off of something and coming back to damage them isn't outside the realm of possibility. My main argument is that if a hexed opponent can attack itself, then a confused opponent should as well, as the wording is the same for both effects. If the general concensus is that this should not be the case then the bear will just miss, since there are no allies for it to hit. Edited April 18, 2012 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Tanma Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) I'm just saying, the description of confused only says something about allies, and from a logic point of view: How likely is it someone would hit himself with his own arrow, his own weapon. Oh, and let's please not try to do anything to make Heroica like Pokemon... How would that work anyway? Because from all I know of that animal-fights game series, it would lead to situations like; Arthur has been latched on by a ghost bag of holding, and has evolved into an Althior, despite the fact that it is more of a metamorphosis than evolution. His vocab has randomly changed but is still as hard to decipher. As I play a Rogue I am not an expert on spells, but it could work in my theories. I picture the way the scroll of confusion works is by distorting the senses of a foe, causing them to see and hear things that aren't real? So people and landscapes appear twisted and strange to the affected, and when opponents attack their allies they believe they are fighting some terrible beast. Much the same is when a foe is alone, they perceive horrible specters around them. And should the visions hit them, the senses of the confused would convince them that they are indeed wounded. Like that season 3 episode of Teen Titans; Haunted. Of course I have never really payed attention to spells, so take bywords which a large quantity of salt. Edited April 18, 2012 by Tanma Quote

Flipz Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Confused enemies can't attack themselves. Where did you find this? And: That does not make any sense. It depends on a Special. If it is something positive, like healing or enhancements, the enemy should use it on the party. If it's negative, it should use it on itself. I'm just saying, the description of confused only says something about allies, and from a logic point of view: How likely is it someone would hit himself with his own arrow, his own weapon. Oh, and let's please not try to do anything to make Heroica like Pokemon... What's wrong with Pokemon?!? And believe me, it's easy enough to hit yourself with your own weapon if you aren't careful. *remembers that particularly disastrous day of lightsaber training...* It was a Force FX lightsaber, yes, I practice with it regularly, and yes, I am a complete nerd. I imagine with spells it would be even worse, since arcane, mystical powers (to me) imply the need for intense concentration. I can only imagine the myriad ways in which the supernatural manipulation of the elements could go wrong... :devil_snicker: (The mental image for me is splinching during Apparating in Harry Potter. :wince: ) Quote

JimBee Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Oh, and let's please not try to do anything to make Heroica like Pokemon... Well Pokemon is an RPG, so it does follow the formula for that type of game (as does Heroica). There are many similarities between the battle system of Heroica and of Pokemon, Final Fantasy, etc. to begin with. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 It was a joke. I have no particular problem with the Pokemans, I don't like the game, though. How Pokeman does confused, should not mean that is the same for Heroica. I figured the Confused effect worked as the description said, which would make more sense, to me. And yes, while I could imagine a mage's spell backfire, do you think that is likely to happen with a dragon, would it breathe fire on itself, do you really think a skilled fighter hits himself with a weapon he is trained with? Quote
JimBee Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I'm not offended that you would dislike Pokemon or anything else, I just figured it was worth pointing out that your request was too late. As for the confused effect, it makes sense to me if an enemy was in an altered state, that they'd end up hurting themselves. And as for this game making sense - you do realize that dragons, mages, and pirate robots don't exist, right? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 No... It's not true... NoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooOOo! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 OOC: Still no updated stats.... The_Customizer didn't actually have a Phoenix Essence, so you were Knocked Out at the end of the battle and didn't get XP. Quote

Haldor kneels down and revives Jess with a fraught look on his face."Jess! Speak! Haldor shakes Jess gently, but there was no sign of movement, she had been badly hit. Haldor glared at the rug, before muttering 'nothing for it'. The Norseman kissed Jess on the lips, hoping this would wake her... It's most obvious Haldor has a crush on Jess. Quote

Zepher Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Wren tried her best! My quest is going to be a little spotty until the 22nd, then updates will be quicker. I should still be on daily, but I'm travelling a little, so I'm posting those accepted now, and starting tomorrow! Quote
