Flipz Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Random Question CHALLENGE! of the random time interval!: Name and create a backstory for ONE of the "example" characters on the class description pages. I'll sit this question challenge out so there's more characters available for everyone. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) Random Question CHALLENGE! of the random time interval!: Name and create a backstory for ONE of the "example" characters on the class description pages. I'll sit this question challenge out so there's more characters available for everyone. Male Assassin. It's Guts. Done. That was easy. Seriously though, let's see... Male Hunter: He is only known by his Tribe name: Black Arrow. "The best hunter of his tribe and the only son of the chieftain, Black Arrow helped to restore the once great influence of the Featherhead Tribe. Located in the plains to the south of the swamps of Salmanda, they hunt the animals they can find, and go out of their way to avoid influence from others. Some tongues say they are a cult, devoted to Centurus, but to outsiders they seem like primitive hunter-gatherers. On a fateful day, Black Arrow was hunting prey, not far from camp, when he suddenly saw a plume of black smoke coming from the camp. Quickly, he ran towards the camp, but when he got there, he witnessed a gruesome sight. Orcish and Human slavers were burning the tents, Raping the women, killing the men and putting the children in shackles. Black Arrow, knowing he could not do anything, the battle was fought, the slavers outnumbered him thirty to one, fled the scene. Robbed of purpose, he eventually found Heroica. Determined not to let the ways of his people die out with him, he is now a Hero." How's that? Edited May 4, 2012 by Scubacarrot Quote
Kadabra Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Female Knight: Lady August Lady August was born to Lorcan Hinckwell's nana, and grew up alongside him as a playmate. Due to her status as the best friend of Heinrich's firstborn, she was raised as a Lady rather than a commoner and granted more privileges than the other servants. She was raised behind a veil of deception, taught always that the Hinckwells embodied the greater good and that the Shadeaux were villains who came to Eubric to usurp the benevolent rule of Heinrich and Laureline. This fairy-tale illusion was shattered one day when she bore witness to a group of Heinrich's men, led by her friend Lorcan, ambush and brutally murder a young Shadeaux in a back alley to steal a document of some sort. Shocked and disgusted by this, she confronted Lorcan, who sneered at her and told her to get her head out of the clouds, and that this was how life went. Horrified, she ran away from home, and eventually joined Heroica as a knight bearing the Hinckwell crest to redeem her house by doing good deeds for those in need under their name. Fun question challenge, Flipz. I have no clue how plausible this story is, as we haven't yet seen Lorcan (I think), and I have no clue whether or not he's old enough to be doing his father's dirty work for him yet. Quote

I have no clue how plausible this story is, as we haven't yet seen Lorcan (I think), and I have no clue whether or not he's old enough to be doing his father's dirty work for him yet. He was at the beginning of Quest 2, but I might be getting him confused with Lyren... Female Raider - Mylzen Mylzen has had a tough life. The offspring of a Succubi and a rather clueless Salmandian, she found her liftestyle best suited so making off with some of the merchant's wares, and living off the (for Salamanda) decent prices she sold them off for in the back allies of the the village. Eventually, her scheme was found out, and despite the circumstances, she was exiled from the city, for both her crimes and her demonic heritage. Packing what little she had, she stowed away on a trader's ship, and after months of ship-hopping, she found herself in Eubric Freeport, and decided instantly to join up with Heroica Hall. Years of adventuring with some of her companions soon brought her to the conclusion she needed more strength...gold wasn't as necessary here. When the opportunity came, she trained as a Raider, and continues her career as one of many heroes. Quote
Etzel Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Here is my suggestion for an Expert Class tied to the Paladin Order: Priest of Ennoc The Righteous Light shines upon these blessed followers who have devoted their time to nurture their faith in Ennoc. Health and Ether Bonuses: Not known yet. Weapons: Staffs, wands, rods, preferably non-elemental (except light-elemental). Job trait: Healing (see Cleric), Preaching - By spreading the faith of Ennoc, at the cost of 1 ether, the priest can get other people (NPCs) to do their bidding (only applicable on followers of Ennoc), Blessed - The priest has thanks to his/her faith in Ennoc a permanent Blessed effect. Battle style: Sacred - the priests are aided by Ennoc's divine powers. 1. SHIELD: Blessings - The Priest heals everyone in the party back to full health and gives the the Blessed effect for the rest of the battle. This does not deplete ether. 2. CRITICAL HIT/HEAL MORE: The Priest attacks the target with strength equal to two times the weapon power added to their level. Alternatively the Priest can use 1 ether to heal themselves or one of their allies + give them the Blessed effect, with the strength equal to their critical hit. (e.g. WP3x2 + level 2 = 8 damage or restore 8 health) 3. HIT/HEAL: The Priest attack the target with strength equal to the weapon power added to their level. Alternatively the Priest can use 1 ether to heal themselves or one of their allies with the strength equal to their hit. (e.g. WP3 + level 2 = 5 damage or restore 5 health) 4. MISS/HEAL LESS: The Priest's attack misses. Alternatively the Priest can use 1 ether to heal themselves or one of their allies with the strength equal to their weapon power. 5. DAMAGE/NO HEAL: The Priest is struck by the opponent's attack. Alternatively, any attempt of healing fails. 6. SPECIAL GUARD/NO HEAL: The Priest has a 50/50 chance to be protected from any negative effect caused by the opponent's special skill. Alternatively, any attempt of healing fails. The Priest is basically an upgraded Cleric, but with more bonuses tied to their faithfulness. The three job traits, healing, preaching and blessed are meant to compensates for their not so exciting battle style. The effects of Preaching is mostly up to the QMs; it could work like Diplomacy to convince NPCs to aid the party, make like-minded NPCs join the party, encourage the party before a battle, etc. Just like the Cleric, the Priest is a supporting player that doesn't have any great offensive actions. But with the help of the blessed effect and healing he/she will make sure the party can last during long and hard battles. The Priest of Ennoc Expert Class can be obtained after you've reached level 30 and you've completed a quest hosted by the Paladin Order, like Quest #16. I plan to host a second one later this summer (July/August probably) and if anyone else wants to host one feel free to do so. I have made up some more background story for the Order apart from what is presented in the Library, e.g. how it's organized and where in the world you can find them etc. so please contact me if you would like to use that (but I won't be very active the coming 2 months so it might take a few days before I answer). Sandy Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 I like the idea behind your expert job class (which could be called just "Priest" or "Highpriest"), but it actually sounds underpowered in terms of what it can do, at least compared to my expert classes. Especially their SHIELD skill could be more powerful (like being able to revive fallen allies and remove negative statuses), and their "Preaching" trait could be tied to their strength in battle - the more followers the priest converts (as dictated by QMs), the more powerful his attacks become. The critical healing giving blessed-effect as well seems a bit off, if the other levels of healing don't give it too. Quote

Hm yeah, I guess I was a bit timid in creating this class, I didn't want to make the QMs job too hard. The addition of reviving fallen allies and removing negative statuses to the SHIELD skill might be a good idea. Then it would be the same as the Druid's SHIELD, but with the Blessed effect too, right? I'm not sure how to include the Preaching trait into the battle in a good way, I think it will be a bit too much to have in mind for the QM. I think of the Preaching as an out-of-battle advantage that can indirectly give advantages in the battles, like having NPCs on the party's side or Encouraged effects to the party. The healing + blessed effect could certainly be given to all levels of healing, that was just me being afraid of overpowering them, no objections there. Quote
Endgame Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Could we not trigger Special damage for just one round, please? Tarn will end up looking like Sorrow at this rate! I'm definitely thinking Bezerker now to get a shield. Skin peeling isn't as unpleasant as one might think - painwise, at any rate. Sorrow is thinking about writing an autobiography on his afterlife when his hero days are up. And yes, the split-personality thing was planned since Sorrow's start. The heart attack provided the perfect trigger to the ailment. Quote

Tanma Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Why not? Female Assassin- Umbronx Umbronx was originally a citizen in a far away sprawling metroplex known as Hobrx. The population of Hobrx numbered in the tens of thousands, yet only one hundred of them were truly free. Those individuals were some of the first settlers of the city, and it is they who held the chains of command. Much like Eubric corruption was everywhere, and different families fought behind the veil of alliances. Overall the nation was run by one High Queen at a time, who would pass on her crown to whatever house had managed to gain her favor. Beneath her and the twenty clans were the four castes: worker, organizer, soldier, and engineer. At the time of these lower castes were organizers and engineers, while the workers were the lowest of the low. Since workers could never advance in rank, they begin their jobs of farming, cleaning, and production at the age of seven. Umbronx was one such worker, forging new weapons of war for hours every day. Despite the smog poisoning her body, Umbronx had not lost all hope for the future. Her mother had once told her that her father had been a soldier, who had breed between castes while drunk. Maybe if she could find her father, should could become a soldier and escape the poisonous slums. More often than not she would practice with the weapons she helped to make, pretending she was in the Iron Guard battling the northern barbarians. One day an organizer caught Umbronx playing with the blades of her work, and acted swiftly and coldly. The fire hot whip ripped into her back, before she even knew she was watch. From then on the organizers watched her more closely, and made sure to deal punishment. She was insignificant enough to be maimed without harming weapon production, but they couldn't allow such a low caste to get ideas. Her face was burnt, and she was exposed to so many toxins that her hair decayed to a white hue. She was nine when they finally stabbed a heated prong through her eye. As she was beaten over and over again, Umbronx's childish hope began to condense and reside. Slowly a new emotion firmed, a raw apathy born of total hatred and anger. Her life was meaningless, and no one would change that but her. Umbronx began to learn how to move in secret, and trained with her weapons more and more. She began to meet with other likeminded workers, each wanting the fall of the clans. More workers began to meet with them, even some soldiers and an engineer began to speak to them. The movement began to make actually moves against the clans, killing a servant or two,, stealing from the armory, blowing up a warehouse of jewels, small steps but ones that felt extremely pleasing. And all the while the few soldiers of the movement trained Umbronx and the others in the art of warfare. Then came the Day of No Sun, for the Eclipse that occurred coincidentally at the same day. It was then that Umbronx sneaked into the Grand Palace, and personally shot a crossbow through the High Queen's heart. The clans panicked at the sight, as the High Queen had not yet chosen a heir. The clans began to fight, turning their armies inward rather than to conquest. As they pounded on each other, the clans were taken down one by one by Umbronx's brothers in arms. Soon enough the last of the clans had fallen, and the revolution was victorious. The rebels then got to work setting up a new government, which they dubbed the Mass. The Mass was an assembly of all Hobrxites, each shrouded in blood red cloaks, cog sen for the ones they had lose to the Clans over the years. In the Mass anyone could submit an idea, and the cloaks rendered the speakers equal to each other regardless of caste tattoos. The Mass would vote on the idea, and in this way govern themselves. Umbronx remained in Hobrx for the next twenty years, until she was thirty three years old. Seeing as their reborn nation had not given into corruption once more, she decided to spread this freedom elsewhere. Eventually she reached Uland, a land sick like her land once was, though like Hobrx it can be redeemed in the fires of revolution. Quote

Tanma Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Just curious, but how does De'kra come off nowadays? I am worried that he has gotten OOC, though I don't know why. He still is following my long term plan well, though I have changed some details, but the pacing is still about the same. But I worry some aspects of him might seem out of character and cliche in a bad way, despite being planned from the start. So does he still seem loyal to his roots, and has plausible character development, or does he seem to have gotten of track? Please give feedback. Quote

Zepher Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) I was actually going to compliment Dek'ra the other day. Your writing for him is always superb. I love his view of the world. It is very unique and adds a ton of flavor to the game. I think, personally, however, long term plans are a little silly for characters. It is my (personal) belief that people are shaped by their events, so I try to let Boomingham be shaped by the Quests he's been on and the people he's encountered. Edited May 4, 2012 by Zepher Quote
Flipz Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Erik remembers the words of the suit of armour: "This is sanctuary. It is safe." So he figures he might be able to use his natural respite trait to rest and regain health. You already did; it kicks in automatically at the end of battle. I do have a long-term plan for Arthur, with a couple of specific events, but really it's more of a target I can aim towards, with the characters he meets pushing him along the way in an unexpected fashion. Althior's offer of apprenticeship really swayed Arthur's perspective, and it'll affect the way he develops when he (I hope!) meets a different figure of magical power. I don't know exactly how he'll respond to any given situation, I just know the general direction he's headed in. Quote
