Capt.JohnPaul Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 So I've been wondering about our characters' age. We all know elves live longer than humans and whatnot, but by how far? What is a 30 year old elf compared to a 30 year old human? How about the "age" is equivalent to human years? So 30 year old elf has been 30 years like a human. Sorry if the above was pointless and we already did that, it just seemed like: Well, an 80 year old elf is the same age as a 40 year old human. Have we brought this discussion up yet? I think we have, but never came to a conclusion. Quote

Seriously though, I remember this was brought up a long time ago, and I think we agreed that we go by the common fantasy thing: Elves grow normally for the first 20 years, but then age very slowly from that point on. I personally think stuff like 400 years is ridiculous, and an elf should live maybe 2 times as long as a human, but what can you do. Quote

Some people may hold the view that elves develop at the same rate as humans and that is their creative freedom and it is not someone elses place to tell them how to role-play their character. My opinion is influenced by the Lord of the Rings, where in Bilbo was considered a young lad even at 50 years old (yes I know he was a hobbit, but I think the same could be said of elves). Remember though, there is no right or wrong answer. Quote
Bricksandparts Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Durkonna howled and fell to the floor writhing, her body growing short, to the size of a dwarf. Her face changed to look like a dwarf, she howled again. She was close to The Mines; she could feel the dwarven spell-casters breaching her inner defenses. She took two of the three daggers and named one Khazed, and the other Dum. She changed back into a clever elf and crawled under the table weeping. Yeah, I'm too a bit confused about what happened here... You didn't even drink the potion... Quote
Palathadric Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I've been thinking of a few solutions to Pretzel's age issue as he's not even an elf. I do not even remember what I was thinking of when I originally created his character. Quote
Brickington Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) I got my character and photo all made. However, before I post it in Heroica Hall, I would like to ask a question: Can you stop playing Heroica (example: Put your Character Photo off your Signature)? Thanks, Commander Law Edited May 28, 2012 by Commander Law Quote
K-Nut Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 You can obviously stop playing the game. But if you're still playing the game, at least your picture must be in your sig. Other players like Tammo have posted their inventory in their profile and a link to it on their sig. With a smaller Inventory, you shouldn't have to do that. Quote
Brickington Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Ok, thank you. Where do I post my Character? Also, can someone give me an example of a Knight Character Creation that I can go by? Quote

I agree with the first part of your post, but the second half is a bit off in my opinion. Let's not forget, that acording to the works of Tolkein (who pretty much invented good fantasy literature and stands as one of the best authors of all time) Elves have no lifespan, they simply live on untill they catch disease or are killed, and never look older than about 60. Elrond is over 4000 years-old yet has neither beard nor wrinkles. J.R.R. Tolkein is bang-on in this I think. Lord Something-or-other in Quest #17 looked aged, but that can be attributed to his dabbling in dark-magic. I also agree that Amarysthwyth or whatever his name is doesn't really fit, having facial hair, especialy black facial hair, looks off for an Elf to my eyes. Quote

There can be Elves with Black Hair. I've never seen one with facial hair, but it doesn't mean an elf can't grow some. Quote

Also, can someone give me an example of a Knight Character Creation that I can go by? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58811&st=0 I'd probably find a matching suit, but with your own style. There are multiple heroes around, and they all (For the most part) have their own look to them. I'd find a head that fit your character's personality, then find hair (Unless you are gonna wear a helmet) and then look at different legs, arms, torsos, hands, and waists that fit and look good together. Wel, other elves have had facial hair in Heroica (Amorith), but mine is the only one with a long beard. I've explained his reasonings for it IC, butno worries, the long beard will be gone once he hits Evoker. Quote

Character are posted in Heroica Hall. There really isn't a specific design of a knight to go by. You have some knights like Cronk in the full Knight ware, and then some like Docken (Warden, Knight, Same thing) who simply have a shield. The possibilities are endless. Hope this helps. Quote

Well, as some of you may have figured out, I'm a fan of low/dark fantasy, so yeah. Of course, everyone can have their own creative freedom, and I was just giving my opinion for it ;). I'm not bothered by the way how many people seem to do it now. By the way: Tolkien laid the roots for today's Fantasy literature, but he is far from the best writer, and frankly the books are very dated at this point. (all in my humble opinion ). As for Arasmyth, if Guts ever meets him, he will probably refuse to think he is an elf, or assume Arasmyth used magic to grow himself a beard Quote

And they sure as hell are dated, and in no-way appeal to the modern audiance. No-one reads that stuff, and I have absolutely no idea why people would want to buy LEGO Lord of the Rings. But let's not turn this into an argument, but seriously, even Heroica RPG takes a lot of inspiriation from LotR, if it was that bad, then why are our fantasy imaginations so rooted in his world?
