So, after all those complaints about how much your job class sucks in comparison to others, do you have any actual suggestions on how to improve it?

Nothing is set in stone for this game, you know? Anything can be changed, if need be.

Not sure if I have asked this question before, but is it possible to merge gems with shields? Doing so would provide elemental resistance to attacks from that particular element OR the types that are effected by the elemental type:

Ruby gives resistance to fire.

OR

Ruby gives resistance to Beasts, Icy Monsters & Plants.

I like the first option you gave, it adds another use for gems, and gives another good reason not to distribute them to mages :sweet:. The second option would be way overpowered, though. Merge a shield with an Amethyst and you would be invincible against 80% of the opponents in the game.

Actually most humanoids would attack with normal weapons anyway. I would think any resistances would be from direct contact with whichever element.

But truthfully, I don't see a need for this use of gems. It would be easy for high power players to be immune to a lot of attacks. I think QMs have enough of a challenge coming up with formidable enemies without this to add to it.

I was just responding to the two options UsernameMDM gave.

OoC: Sorry to cut in, but Sarick, Galen wants your blade. Would you be okay with having left it with him before you departed for this mission. I don't know if you're reading the other threads, I know some people aren't!

Wow, Zepher you suck. First you pass up the opportunity to give Sarick at least one level of experience for his canceled quest, now you're trying to take his sword away when others passed on it in the first place.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking about Quest 21, which Sisco hosted, and Zepher also lost out on EXP, and I think he worded the bit about the sword as a question.

... :look:

I'm confused. I can't tell if you're joking or not... I apologize if that seemed strongly worded. Sarick can of course keep the sword, that's why I asked him. He can't use it, and Galen wanted it, and we rushed the players along without warning, so I wanted to know if he wanted to hand it off "before" the parties split. Fugazi asked in my thread, and I didn't know if he would read it, since not all players are reading all the threads.

As for the XP... I actually don't understand that part. I'm sorry, perhaps I'm just being dumb.

Xarrzan, I apologize if it appeared as if I was robbing you of the sword. You may hold onto it until Olegia burns.

Jebs, sorry if I offended you with my hosting. I always thought we got on rather well, but it appears I was mis-reading things.

Althior smirked as the thief attacked him with the sword. "I have some." He stepped forward, "give us back the artifacts that you have stolen and surrender peacefully, then you may just leave here with your life," As Violetta started to say something, Althior started to laugh as he interrupted her, "You don't get it, do you? There is no version of this where you come out on top! Maybe you're too much for us and just maybe you come out on top, but back at the hall, we have an army. Surrender, and you live. Don't and you won't be so damn lucky." He stepped back. "The choice is yours..."

On paper, the class is great; the problems come in practice. Part of this, as Pie pointed out, is players' fault for not, as Cave Johnson puts it, "throwing science at the wall to see what sticks." I still think that more Mage-specific scenarios need to come into play, though; Knights' Diplomacy is used pretty much all the time, and though Rangers don't seem to use it much, the opportunities for Animal Talk are there. Mages...not so much. Some puzzles that specifically require clever elemental spellcasting would be nice; true, this would be creating a specific challenge for a specific member of the party, but my design philosophy is to do that anyway--specifically, create one encounter (combat or non-combat) designed to tailor to each particular Hero's strengths, and one designed to exploit each Hero's weaknesses. In this way, each party member gets a chance to shine, and each faces a difficult and trying challenge.

Really, though, I think I'm overanalyzing things; I'll try Pie's suggestion and see how it turns out.

Really, if you need a role model on how to be a mage, Flipz, look at what Pandora did as Nyx. Nyx, even fairly early on with a limited amount of gems, just kicked butt as a mage. Sure, the dice were with her at times, but she had the strategy both in battles and when stocking her inventory that made Nyx shine.

That pretty much covers it. All you need is an Amethyst, a humanoid-loving QM, someone to soak up all the free hits, and a Cleric to keep you all alive to be a successful Mage. The Rogue stealing all the gold is optional. :sweet:

How the hell am I failing so badly?!

You're not doing that horrible. You're using scrolls 90% of the time so you can't really keep track of how well you're doing...

Arthur's complete battle report. Note that a failed Scroll is still equivalent to a missed attack; he wouldn't have hit the target, either way.

That being said, I do hope I haven't fallen too much in your graces Jebs. Like I said, I always sort of thought we got along fairly well. So, while this may seem a little late... I'm enjoying your quest quite a bit.

Plus, scrolls only work 50% of the time. If you spent your money on Nostrums and focused on attacking the enemy, you'd deal more damage. But is that what you're trying to measure? I think it's pretty cool that you've gone the road less traveled by being a scroll mage.

Hey! I made this reference more subtle! I even had to change it up, since Violetta doesn't have an army. :tngue:
