Waterbrick Down Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 He did get healed in rounds 2 and 3, but lost no ether. Also, for my next idea, it would involve some freaky accident involving my planned second character ( his death ) but could I use a frog as my character? He could talk normal language as a gift from Ennoc, and would probably be a cleric. He would be related to Lycan as an adopted brother. I'm just asking as it would be the first frog hero. I believe this issue came up when Dannylonglegs was creating his character, Sylph. I believe he had wanted to use a bat, but it was determined that PC's had to be humanoid in some fashion or another, so I think the ruling may be a no on the frog hero. Quote
Sandy Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Now that Ellaria is (both fortunately and unfortunately) back in hero duty, how do you quest, Sandy? I'd assume you'd know about most, if not all, the plot twists by that point, as well as the battles. Actually, I don't. I only ask specific details from people who are hosting for their first time. Experienced QMs usually just send me the quest pitch and then any game mechanic, battle or item they want to consult with me. If I know "too much" about a quest, I won't sign into it. So do heroes in the Unlimited Quest get 'GP' and XP, or just the Glory Points? They get both. And one of the Glory Point prizes is a free Level Up, so this unlimited quest should solve your levelling up woes. Sorry, all heroes must be humanoid. No animals accepted. Besides, you already changed your character just a few months ago. Shouldn't you concentrate on building him up first, to at least see where he can go? Or do you really enjoy starting from a scratch that much? Looks like an interesting quest. Is there any chance you'd consider accepting a pre-formed party like that of Quest 39? Of course that's possible. The unlimited quest is designed to be really flexible, and if I get a co-host to it, there can be two parties on the Fields at the same time. But before anyone applies for that job, please wait until the quest topic is posted so you can see what it is really about. Quote

TheBoyWonder Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Didn't expect it really. I was refferring to my second character (post50). Might just have to stick with Mage. Quote
Pandora Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 However, I've been pondering on the option of changing the "random element" ruling of the SHIELD-skills of Mages, Battle Mages, Sages and Mystic Knights so that IF they have chosen to use an elemental spell in the turn that they roll a SHIELD, the chosen element is used. If they have chosen to use another action, the element would be random. Would this fix the inherent problem with all these skills, without having to change them any further? What say you? The problem is that the Battle Mage/Mystic Knight Shields are very potentially weaker than the normal Mage's, so I don't think changing them all to that would make much of a difference, balance-wise. Maybe for Advanced Classes up this edit could be made? I agree that this would be good for Advanced class upwards (as I'd said one might imagine a Mage being more skilled and/or focused at that level). I still find it counter-intuitive that both Barbarian and Mage Shields are 'attack all enemies' and the Battle Mage Shield isn't; I don't expect a massive 'decimate all enemies with physical and magic attacks' however, could it not be possible that there's just an overflow of magic that hits a random number of other enemies (1-6 dependent on die roll) that just hits them for base WP only? My other suggestion was to be for some sort of in-battle Natural Respite, restoring a random amount (again on die roll) of Health and Ether. I thought Nyx was going to kick megablocks with the town watch . She can do both (though obviously not at the same time) - I'm sure she feels she has unfinished business with Strivvian Keystones and Acting Captain Patricia. I wasn't sure you wanted her back, though, as you'd posted the sign up while Nyx, Atramor and Cronk are all in Dastan. Quote

Sandy Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 It's actual Captain Patricia now. And Sandy made me do it . Well, why would've she remained as "acting" with no one other to take her place? Let's just say she got a permanent promotion. And I have noticed a mistake in the quest thingy, I want SIX heroes for this quest. Fix'd. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Well, why would've she remained as "acting" with no one other to take her place? Let's just say she got a permanent promotion. Yes, of course, I imagine she was originally installed temporarily after the houses had enough of Lilly, and when turned out she did not annoy the Houses quite as much, she was properly promoted. And I meant that you made me put up the sign-ups. Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Actually I was the one planning to use a bat. Yes, and I suggested he use one as a companion like Sylph's, or make himself an anthropomorphic bat or a bat turned into a human or something. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Wedge09 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 One last question : I see some players sign up for several quest; There is a limit on the quest in which you can sign up?? You can play different quest at a time?? Excuse me for all these questions Quote
Chromeknight Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 One last question : I see some players sign up for several quest; There is a limit on the quest in which you can sign up?? You can play different quest at a time?? Excuse me for all these questions Questions are how one learns. Don't be embarrassed about asking! Players can sign up for as many quests as available. But can only be on one quest at a time. Usually heroes would indicate which quest they'd prefer to be selected for, but as always the choice of heroes is up to those running quests. Quote
Endgame Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Well, ladies and gentlemen, Quest 36 is over. I'll post the conclusion when everyone has a little time to roleplay. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 My 50 character will probably be a cleric, not a mage, as we have a lack of clerics. He will have a frog partner. Quote
Zepher Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) <--- That's "Papa Zeph's Proud Face". That's the kind of interaction AND planning I like to see out of a Heroica RPGer, Adam. I'm proud to have brought you and Siercon into the game. Q41 has been a great fun (and easier than any other of my insane quests) to host! BD, just making sure you understand the Notes attached to the Ranger. If you roll a damage or special damage, you will be poisoned. Edited August 5, 2012 by Zepher Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) Zepher, I hope the reason we could not bring all our items is good, because you are completely breaking my class. Edited August 5, 2012 by Scubacarrot Quote
Endgame Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Zepher, your battles are insane, yet balanced. Just one of your enemies in 39 is stronger then my boss monster! Quote
Zepher Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Zepher, I hope the reason we could not bring all our items is good, because you are completely breaking my class. Well, I'll admit that with three of the most powerful players, it was SORT OF for balance, but also for another reason, which we can discuss at the end of the quest. Just remember, with all Zepher quests I'm trying to push the boundaries of the game while staying within the mechanics. Zepher, your battles are insane, yet balanced. Just one of your enemies in 39 is stronger then my boss monster! They're really hard to keep track of too. I literally worry every time that I post a battle that I've made it way to challenging. Every single time. You should have seen the QMs of Quest 30 fretting about the impossibility of the battle we created. But if we didn't find them impossible, how much fun would it be. The Zepher QM Motto: "Drain the hero's inventories, force tough roleplaying, push the expectations of the battle, QUESTS SHOULD HAVE EVER POTENTIAL OF BEING FAILED!" Quote
CMP Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 The Zepher QM Motto: "Drain the hero's inventories, force tough roleplaying, push the expectations of the battle, QUESTS SHOULD HAVE EVER POTENTIAL OF BEING FAILED!" Fixed. This is the most intense battle ever. And honestly, even the system itself could be used in single quests with larger parties. Quote
Darkdragon Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Well, quest #27 is over. Thank's players and readers and hope you all enjoyed! I guess if you have comments about the quest now, they'd have to go into the Questmasters Lounge topic. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I must say I don't agree with the inventory draining as balancing. But we'll see at the end of the quest. Quote
Endgame Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I was worried sick that the Death Progg would be too much of a challenge (He could've had 700 HP and 29 SP depending on how much mead, nostrums, and smelling salts you chugged!), but it appeared to be just right. I also got roleplaying and drained their inventories, so all is well. Also, to fix your motto further: "I WANT YOU AND EVERYONE YOU'VE EVER MET TO DIE IN A FIRE OF QM GENERATED BATTLES." Quote
Zepher Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I must say I don't agree with the inventory draining as balancing. But we'll see at the end of the quest. I'm sorry, what I mean by "draining" is forcing players to use items. The reason I do this is that I personally have so many I never feel the NEED to use, because I never feel threatened enough to need that extra push and both Boomingham and I are a little miserly and hoard things until we think we will really need them (I only ate Halloween candy on very special occasions, because I didn't want to waste it). In this case, I cut you off from supplies for an actual game mechanical reasons. Quote
Jebediahs Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Since he's upgraded so much, Anwyl throws in a reforging of his dagger into a sword for free. Can you do that? I plan on switching to a class that is unable to use daggers. If this is a legal action then it will save me money as I won't have to upgrade a new weapon. Quote
